This thread is not meant as a comment on negativity on the mmorpg forums. Rather, it is to point out a concerted effort to generate a negative impression about Mortal online. There was the angarato impersonator posting on this website, claiming his entire guild was leaving Mortal for another game. The moderators here have removed all the posts from the impersonator from this web site, but similar tactics are being used elsewhere (http://www.massively.com/2010/03/07/one-shots-famous-last-words/). The postings from angarato_myrmidon, myrmidonguild, and angrybarrel_varience are all fake. Commentary from the people being impersonated can be found here (http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/37245-obvious-troll-obvious.html).

Clearly most of the peopleposting their negative opinions about Mortal are expressing their honest opinion. However, I would suggest taking any such statements with a grain (or shakerful) of salt if you aren't familiar with them.

People like to kick someone/something when it's down and Mortal Online is an easy target because there's just so much to criticise. I doubt there are many people here who can honestly say they've never enjoyed reading a bad review tearing a rubbish game apart. It's the same human trait that 200 years ago brought huge crowds to watch and mock a criminal being hung; in today's world of trends and bandwagons, Mortal Online was doomed the moment SV lifted the NDA and everyone saw how buggy and unfinished the game is.

As 99.999% of the people on these forums have never heard of the people being "impersonated" and 99.998% have never heard of those guilds it seems likely to me that the impersonator is just a MO fan from another rival guild.

Seriously.. the last one was a recruitment post for a clan. There are plenty of ways to knock Mortal Online... but putting up a recruitment post with a link to the website is probably not one I would think of...

I'd start looking at people from the MO forums who are in rival guilds and have a beef with the guilds involved. Seems much more likely than throwing innuendo at every person who dislikes the game.

Edit to add: OK.. the ones on Massively do seem to be the work of someone who dislikes the game.

Perhaps, but the posts at Massively were targeting 2 guilds (Myrmidon & Variance). I'm not sure how someone would think it would hurt the guild in any significant way if 99% of the target audience did not know those guilds. Anyone who was in the least bit interested in the guild's activities could easily check their website.

My impression is that someone is trying to encourage people getiing an impression of a mass exodus from Mortal. Myrmidon and Variance may not be well known here , but would be familiar to people who casually follow Mortal on the official forum (casual followers being the intended audience in my opinion)

I hadn't checked the Myrmidon recruitment thread, so didn't realize that was fake also. Obviously, whoever is doing this is still active--- have to keep an eye on that.

As to #2 in your post, they're just pointing out the likely suspects. I don't think any of the people named there are likely to be the source. Plus, you will note they haven't actually done it (well, except the neoxx impersonation thing maybe)

So, because I post comments on MMORPG.COM that could be construed as negative... I would naturally be a suspect for impersonating other people and spamming other websites? Gimme a break, some of us have self-respect.

Also, I find it telling that you didn't condem the person who called for folks to impersonate me and spam posts around the internet. Very telling indeed. Nor did you condem Kio for admitting to breaking the rules of MMORPG.COM by creating a second account on here. So far he is the only person who has actually admitted to making multiple accounts on here and impersonating someone.

As a matter of fact what Kio did was a MAJOR INFRACTION:

Committing Major Infractions at MMORPG.com will result in an immediate and permanent ban from the site with no pervious warnings or infractions. The is no room for leniency or discussion

Multiple Accounts

If the staff of MMORPG.com discovers that a user is creating and/or using multiple accounts, that user, and all accounts, both past and present, will be banned from MMORPG.com.

I have to agree, since I have no clue who any of those guilds/people are in the OP, when they posted here they were leaving MO to go to somewhere else I paid it no mind. (didn't even read the thread).

There is no one of importance in the MMORPG world, these are just games and I could care less who does what or goes where. (OK, I lied, I always like to know where the Goons are gonna end up, makes for good comedy)

Please take time to read the whole. I think I clearly stated that I didn't think it was you , inferno or hercules. I do have an idea of who it might be but am refraining from making any accusations since I have no way to verify it.

I saw them joking about it on the Mortal forums but have seen no evidence of them actually doing it.

Edit: ok except for slapshot8811. But that's so obvious, I'd classify it as yanking your chain, not impersonating you. Kio I would also classify as joking, since he pointed it out as he was doing it (since the thread got deleted, I have no way of checking whether he actually did it or was joking about it after the thread got deleted)

Nice.. loved the PM as well.

Clearly some people can't debate like mature people and resort to creating fake accounts and spamming.

Still waiting for the OP to condemn this person, the person who suggested it on the Mortal online Forums, and the perosn who admitted to creating fake accounts on here.

The person that suggested it/ joked about it... no.

The person actually doing it... If they had confined it to that one comment , no I wouldn't. Since they have already cranked out 9 posts (in 17 minutes) yes. That's going well beyond yanking your chain, and well into the spammer/ obnoxious p***k category.

What I find most telling about Mortal Online from THIS thread....

If the game is SO bad that the guilds from the game come to MMORPG.com forums to "PvP"....there are some gross issues.

I'm not trying to be cute here. I know nothing about M.O., so I'm not, in all honesty, making any kind of judgment call. But it seems odd that there would be this type of friction that would carry over from the game itself to a completely unrelated web site.

I hope that MMORPG.com moderators and admins take care of the issue for you guys. They seem to generally be very on top of these sorts of things. Frankly, I feel a bit sorry for them constantly having to deal with this kind of thing. There should really be some way to allow only ONE MMORPG.com member account per IP address. That would cut down on this "sock account" issue quite a bit.

They confine their PVP to the game and their forum wars to mortalonline.co, to the best of my knowledge. I think the spammer here and the impersonators are mainly trying to make MO look bad.

The same question with IF mortal shuts down is fine. Asking it as WHEN mortal shuts down could be considered trolling since it presumes something that you have no proof will happen.

P.S. you never indicated where someone was impersonating you.

I personally don't know who it was that decided to impersonate me with 30-40 ridiculously racist posts the other day (as well as PMs sent to me) All I know is that on the MO forums there was a poster who suggested that people start making fake accounts with my name... and that another person on that forum admitted to creating multiple accounts on here and impersonating people from other guilds. If that person admitted to being the fake Neoxx (or whatever it's called) I think it more than likely that that same person was also the fake Anrangato or Angreybarrel... or any other name that noone other than a few devotees have even heard of.

Both of those people also post on here. Coincidence?

I asked multiple times if you would denounce those two people (one for inciting people to impersonate me and the other for admitting to multiple accounts and impersonating folks on here), but (unless I missed it) you avoided doing so. You said that the person who impersonated me started out as a joke and was funny, but then went too far (racist/hateful posts and PMs are never funny BTW), and you never denounced the two people I mentioned above...

I'm sorry but consistency is important. making fake accounts... or encouraging people to do so is just WRONG. It doesn't matter if that person was a fan of the game, or hated the game, or didn't even hear of the game. They crossed a line and should be denounced.
