I'm Sorry but I still have some original D&D books in the attic that are like cryptic looking.

Sometimes they speak to me in my sleep....

That would've been one of the cheesier "Basic D&D" sets from the AD&D 1st ed. era. TSR had a dice shortage for a while. Most (but not all) of the sets that came with chits had a coupon you could send in for real dice.

I even remember when I read BOOKS as a child. Yes...a CHILD...reading BOOKS....for RECREATION!  Oh the horror of it all!

    O.o

Heh, I think I had read every Hardy Boys mystery novel by the time I was 8.

My first computer was a Vic 20.

    I had a Pachinco machine.

But most of the time for fun a bunch of friends of mine and I would run around the neighborhood with BB guns, or squirt guns depending on the time of year, and pretend that we were the A-Team... lol

Anyone remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books?  I loved those as a kid!

OMG yes. I honestly credit those, in part, to my eventual love of adventure games and then shortly thereafter.... RPGs. :)  What a nice memory. :D

I remember getting a Vectrex for my birthday, dang that thing was so cool at the time I was the envy of all the kids I had round, though it had a lot of problems & in the end my dad took it back to the store & we got a c64, which the whole family used to play quite competitively, racking up huge scores on several games.

NOOOOO!!!

lol, I just turned 29 a few days ago man, feelin' old as well...  I never had the powerglove, but I did have that joystick controller and thought it was OP because it had a turbo button... lol I was 5.

Not as old as my NASCOM (built from a kit) and my Commodore PET 2001.

    Mom (long pause) Ok.
Me: May I leave the table? (exits)

So when I see people say that videogames make kids dangerous, I have to shake my head. Better that then the crazy stuff we used to do.

Well, brace yourself, because this is going to be one of those I am so old that ... and my family was so poor that ... posts combined.

We didn't have tv, telephone, car, fridge, or washing machine when I was small.  My favourite games were make belief; so running around with my nana's underskirt on being a ballet dancer, or acting out scenes from the film 'She' with a friend, and getting us both so scared we were almost in tears (and I had nightmares that night), or hanging out in the woods with boys and using bits of rope to swing from trees.  My favourite solitary pastime was reading (still is, actually).
