I played the game for some months, and at its current state i find it completely enjoyable, at least in the crafting business. I think it got to a point where paying for it is ACCEPTABLE. My only biff is it tries too hard to look pompously realistic and epic. It should try less realism and more style. Infact, i don't think peopel even CARE about the gameplay when the game launches, first of all they play something they like for its visuals. IF the game looks good and FEELS good while you play, you WILL buy it even tho it has no features. IF MO fails, it's just because it looks A BIT awkward, not because it doesn't have all professions. So Starvault should use their remaining money to hire an artist.
I agree. The art isn't that bad but its semi bland. I think there is a lot of people who find the game enjoyable including the 30+ that play everyday in my guild. The cities are never empty so I am only assuming others enjoy the game as well. Everyone here hatin on this game is either a DFO player or just don't have anything else important to do in life.

Absolutely. I think naysayers in this case are either:
people afraid of the challenges of a sandbox fantasy simulation
sheep, because they all say the same thing copy-pasted, which means they haven't even tried the game.
---
but again there's a good reason for not buying this game, and it's that it looks UGLY. So don't even try to blame the content/features/bugs, those won't stand, nobody cares about those. WoW at launch had NO content at all, the people then simply enjoyed seeing their characters run, content will come later. Players, for the first 2 months or so only care about graphics and just a BIT of activity and they will be happy repeating that one small but enjoyable activity.
If MO fails it's
ONLY BECAUSE OF UGLY GRAPHICS... and that's a good reason, because one plays an MMO for months and months, one has to "enjoy" his avatar, as much as one can't live in real world without enjoying his appearance.

Are you being serious?
Can't be, people are "afraid" of sandbox MMOs and people are "sheep" .....?
This is going to be good, the game is Alpha at best. Can't believe they are going to launch with all the issues this game has. I know they don't have a choice but DAMN!!!! the game is broken
It took me 3 weeks of 'resistance' to infact LEARN how to play and FIND stuff to do. I was of your opinion when i was a NOOB afraid of the difficulties of a difficult simulation, frustrated at the complexity of the knowledge-system.
"Running away" means infact that you got scared of the learning curve, and now frustrated of it, slander it as sour grapes.
So, if someone is not hardcore enough to spend 3 weeks pissed at a broken game to learn how to play, they are a noob and they should leave the game. Is that what your saying?
Afraid of a challenge? There is nothing to do in the game!
Haven't tried the game? Its open beta, most people have played it and run away!
Is this actually true? Or... is this more along the lines of an opinion?
I mean honestly there would have to be something to do, otherwise how are people posting positively about the game? From what i understand there's plenty in the form of crafting and PVP. With a little bit of PVE tacked on.
Look at games like BF2 or TF2, what is there to do besides kill each other? Yet many people have been playing those two games for a long time and still have fun doing so.
Isn't there city building and other forms of social construction? Is there no PVP? Is there no mobs to kill? IS there no loot to find or items to craft? Are there no dungeons to explore or world for that matter? What do you mean there is nothing to do?

MO will fail because of the graphics? WhWhaWhat!!! Think i've been trolled.
Nono, i really believe that. I don't think people care about content BEFORE BUYING. Buyers buy the game for how it looks, THEN they see what's inside.
In other words:
A possible buyer STOPS playing because the game is broken. But STARTS playing because graphics are COOL. How can a person decide to NOT buy the game because of PROBLEMS he can see only AFTER he tried it?

Look at games like BF2 or TF2, what is there to do besides kill each other? Yet many people have been playing those two games for a long time and still have fun doing so. BF2 and TF2 are goal oriented.. you try to reduce the other team's points to zero.. or capture the flag.. or control certain points.. and thus win the game. This doesn't apply to MO. I have often said that this game has more in common with Planetside than with UO.. and your example is somewhat along those lines...
Isn't there city building and other forms of social construction? There is house building (and with the last patch keeps) but they are in pre-determined lots.. and don't provide anything currently. No massive cities to be built with vendors or harbors or emplaced defensive weapons like balistae if thats what you mean.
Is there no PVP? There is no purpose to PvP.. other than ganking.
Is there no mobs to kill? Some. Most clustered just outside the starter towns such as weesels and boar but much of the world is empty. They recently added an orc camp but it has some insanely bugged AI (or did as of last week. Nothing much drops from the mobs though except some bones and skins to use in crafting.
IS there no loot to find or items to craft? Craft.. yes.. you can craft armor and weapons using what you loot, but there are no magical swords or armors to be found as loot.
Are there no dungeons to explore or world for that matter? Nope.. no dungeons. A few caves.. almost all empty and one of them has a minotaur in it I think (last time I looked it was bugged and stuck in the floor). No dungeons to explore for chests or loot though.
The game is in Free Open Beta though... so I strongly urge you to try it while it's free if you are in any way interested. playing the game for a day will show you much better than anything someone on here can post.

I think that's actually a mixed question to be honest. Should we support a game we personally feel isn't worth supporting? NO.
On the flip side however, if you feel the game itself is decent yet needs work, I see nothing wrong with giving them support. It boils down to your own wants and desires, and your expectations.
Do I see a need to support a different approach to development compared to what we have seen over the last few years? Yes I do. Is MO the answer to that concern? Not for me, for others it may be.

Gotcha, so basically every aspect of the game is unfinished. That's unfortunate, and quite sad.
Personally I tried the game when OB started, I couldn't get past the initial experience. It was something very small that turned me off to be honest, no indicator on whether you had equipped your weapon or not. Lack of a tutorial what so ever was quite a shocker to me as well.
I'm all for sandbox play, and hard game mechanics ( personally I don't consider it hard, more like annoying). However those two very little issues told me they really didn't take the time to ensure a pleasant experience. It told me they were worried about building a game, yet not very worried about what type of experience it offered.

I like the way the horses in their new video are clearly floating above the ground.
Sorry but rushing in buggy, unfinished features does not constitute "incorporating the core features promised" any more than splashing a bucket of paint on the wall constitutes "painting my house". It's like when I was a kid and my mum said that I couldn't watch TV until I had done my homework, so I quickly scribbled down a few answers, skipped a few questions and tried to finish as soon as possible so that I could wave it in her face, technically say that I'd done my homework and sit and watch TV.
This is what SV have done, they've ticked off their list of things to do in the most rushed and unprofessional way possible so that they can get this game kicked out of the door without any more delays. Whether this is because they're running out of funds or just unbelievably naive I have no idea.

But the release will have all features! Just ignore the bugs, if you can't your not hardcore enough!

Doomed. The trailer as good as it was does not represent actual gameplay what-so-ever, mostly because they didn't actually show any.
Basically what this trailer said was, "Yep, we've got some decent artists; shame about the rest of the development team though!"
Unreal engine running third party server code, good fucking game.
Just finally got my whack at this game a few days ago. If they launch now... well Apollo 13 all over again.
It sure helped sell pre-orders. You talking about this one?

Umm, open beta gets shut down when a game is released, so I'm not sure what you mean.
