Simple math as I see it. Darkfall vs Mortal online. Darkfall is American and Mortal Online is Swedish. Mmorpg.com is America and not a swedish website. Which would probably explain the negativity. Since mmorpg.com probably favours Darkfall, and most of the thread makers and posters too. Wouldnt be surpriced if mmorpg.com got money from Aventurine that made Darkfall also.

Wait wait....WHAT? DarkFall is Greek and also launched on EU first. I think you got a few things confused buddy.
The end of sandboxes if we don't support Starvault? Wow.. that should pretty much say everything you need to know about this company... and the sad part is I think he actually believes that.
Truth be told, I believe that MO has done more damage to the sandbox genre than can be counted. Who knows how many people tried the open beta as their first experience with a sandbox and will never give this genre another shot now because of their experience?
Good games will thrive.. whether they are sandbox, themepark or something else. Bad games will die... and on the way down point fingers at everyone else.

It has happened before and it will happen again and again. Companies that release games that are broken and imcomplete do not last long, hopefully companies will learn that and stop releasing incomplete products. But they might not...
I'm not sure I'm liking the first part of Henrik's conversation. While there those that legitimately post criticism at SV, and some that are flaming angry at them, a lot has to do with how SV has handled MO as of late. He can refer to us as trolls but I don't think that's fair in light of that most of our complaints are based on the quality of MO's code. He doesn't seem to address MO's problems but seems to just attack the posters (or Trolls as he called us) for no reason than to "firefight" in an "us vs. them" mentality. It doesn't sound constructive from his part, and gives the impression to his prospective subscribers that they lack confidence in their ability to succeed in bringing gamers a "stable" MO. My advice to Henrik, find more investors, get more seed money, and go back to closed beta. The game idea is still solid, and the niche market of MMORPG with heavy pvp, sandbox is needed. Remember, most of us "trolls" as you call us, actually want this to succeed... instead of taking our criticism as an attack, take it as advice... put this game back into a LOOOOOONG closed testing cycle, then re-release later; we will appreciated a more polished product in the end.
I'm more of a lurker, but I had to say something on this one. Can't disagree with anything on here.
i have seen mortal. it could be great but Since the CEO thinks his god of MMOs i won't be playing it. plus i hear tons of bad news about it a lot , poor patchings, poor customer service just to name a few.

OK...
#1.. That has nothing to do with math (simple or not) as that would be Geography.
#2.. Darkfall is made by Aventurine who is in Greece. They opened a North American server (they now have 2) a few months back.

what negativity the reason BOTH Darkfall and MO get trashed so often is because both games look and play like something that was slapped together by college kids. Darkfall came a long way from what it was at launch but it is still low in quality compared to other mmo's out there. MO still plays and feels like a game in alpha. Also there are already a few successful sandbox mmo's out their. If you really want a sandbox go play a single player rpg because frankly mmo's will never truly grasp the art of the sandbox.
Whatever sympathy I had for Mortal Online and StarVault has just been thrown out the window. Attacking EVE with a stupid yet common misperception? No, that ain't gonna happen. Earthrise is coming out soon™, so it's not the end of sandbox MMOs if MO fails. And Earthrise should wipe the floor with MO, Darkfall, and everything else (except EVE) since UO. If they deliver what's on paper, anyways.

That is not what he wants to do, just read this part of the log:

I thought Darkfall was made in Greece? How is Darkfall American?
You saying AV actually has money to give mmorpg.com!?!?!? LOL!!!!!!!!!
Slightly off topic but somewhat related: Don't forget Greece is having some "economic blues" and is hoping for EU handouts.
1. Support the development of Mortal Online for the next 4 years by paying them to continue to develop what they have created. Their ideas are great, and innovative. It's almost halfway done acording to the development timeline stated by their CEO.
2. Avoid this game at all costs!! they are asking us to pay for their development. Right now MO is not worth playing at all. Yes, it will be someday, but for the next few years it will be garbage. This turd will not be fully polished for a Looooong time.
The CEO is creating hype, and circleing the wagons at the same time. The game WILL gather enough followers to continue development, but it will be a painfully slow and nauseating development that will cost them money.
I gave MO a shot. They need to look at what happened to Vanguard. The game has to be at least 90% complete prior to release.

It's like the CEO expects it to be easy, and that isn't gonna happen.

I agree, Starvault is creating hype by releasing those epic trailers of the scenery, not the actual gameplay. The game looks good, but the actual gameplay is another story.
Whew! After reading this, I don't agree with the CEO saying if you don't support his game, its the end of Sandbox games. And Starvault admits they are 6-7 years away from the game being completed.
I would avoid this game as so many of the previous posts have said. Why would anyone want to support a game in this state of unplayability, much less pay for something that isn't playable?
The Eve and the "end-of-sandboxes" comments were pretty clueless, thats a given.
Beyond that I dont see anything outragous about his comments..? Though the foot-in-mouth syndrome seems like a common thing with sandbox devs, Tasos had a few moments as well as this Henrik dude seems to have. And even if the launch would end up being slightly better than Darkfalls (which remains to be seen), it would still be considered pretty much a fail.
Hope he pulls through with this: diversity is a good thing for this genre, but I wont start donating money to confused game devs to avoid "the end of sandboxes," thats for sure.
the niche market of MMORPG with heavy pvp, sandbox is needed.
Can you link some research, provide some data or arguments this assumption is based on?
Only source I can think of is Darfall as comparison and I would not say it's subscriber numbers would speak for much interest and demand...
I said "niche" market... Just look at the DF forums and see for yourself. Sorry for my generalization, I'm just going on all the responses as MO seems to generate lots of posts, which hence seems to indicate interest, and perhaps a demand for this niche genre of mmo's. Also it's needed as there aren't too many like it (besides DF, and perhaps Eve) in the market. Do really need numbers to justify generalized assumptions, and/or opinions based on a lack of this niche genre and responses and posts here? (rhetorical questions... hint, I'm not looking for an answer).

That is what bothers me, he actually says its going to take 6 - 7 years to get all the complete features....
If you support a piece of garbage unnecessarily, you'll get more garbage on a regular basis.
It's just as simple as that.
The game has been in development for TWO YEARS. Nobody can ship a MMO out in two years, unless it's a desktop game like Bejeweled. Star Vault is basically giving you a quarter finished game and asking you to pay for it and subsidize the costs so they have all the money of a regular gaming company, without any of the expense of taking loans or anything else.
It's become a joke, and the people who support MO because they think they will make a great game are in for a rude awakening.

Good luck investing your hundreds of thousands dollars basing on couple forums posts...
If you do not run the numbers, you have no business plan and your activity may count as hobby at best.
often the game gets dev ,after that the game try to find a way to get on to a server!
come on game dev !before even startin to design a game the first thing you need is the server ,os support plan
32 bit or 64 bit
donnybrook of maplestory style game etc this is the main issue often the game is finished designing and then they call the gear and network specialist trying to fit their game into a server
then player say men this game as lot of issue,of caurse it doesnt

Numbers can be fudged, played with, and downright faked. In the end, when getting seedmoney from investors it comes down to showcasing your product (at that stage it should be at least a playable alpha, and it should be at a point where it's impressive looking).

funny cuz AV is not american get over it
I'd put money on that not being him, but some zealous (perhaps educationally challenged as well) fans.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

This game does not just lack polish.
This game is totaly unfinished!
