Not that anyone cares to listen, but i have read a few articles lately from Marketing, investor experts that pretty much substantiate what the SV CEO says.Investors do not care about a great game, they are at this very moment MORE interested in flash games and games that cater to social apsects. So in essence do not expect a free form game from any developer that is trying to convince investors to come aboard.
ALL the giants are cutting back on rpg pc games and moving to the Facebook ,Phone app area.So if you enjoy Farmville, and cheap flash games that is what you are going to get, unless people support the more advanced industry.
That is sad if it is true...
It is sadly true it was the subject of large discussion at 2 of the last game devolper shows, basicly they sat there and said why should we work for 5 years on a title and make 'X', when we can earn twice as much under a year for a facebook app.
I found the discussions coming out of these to be depressing to say the least.
Are they really wrong? How many of us would toil hard hours at a job to release a product that may or may not be good and make less money and be eligible for a lay off?
And any of these online games are subject to this type of scrutiny. There are games out now that really aren't bad "games" but players attack them mercilessly because they weren't what players wanted.
Well that's fair but it doesn't do a lot to attract game developers to want to try more of these games.
If players want more sandboxes then I'm sorry to say they are going to have to step up to the plate and invest.
Remember, investors are "us". We are the investors. So if you want more sandbox games stop investing in more mundane investments and find a game developer to invest in that his making what you want.
what? it's risky and you might lose your money?
exactly!

I think you are confusing the term investor with that of consumer. People who purchase a product are consumers. Investors are in the stock market.

Since, investors are in the stock market, and they buy stocks(a product). Then, wouldn't an investor be a consumer since they purchased a product. As well, when you purchase a product from a store you are helping to keep that store in bussiness. And, therefore investing in said store.

I'm not confused at all, I meant exactly what I said. And no "we" are investors. Look at your 401k or mutual funds or IRA's. You are an investor. You are paying others to pick your stocks and manage your funds but you are still using your money in stocks.
so find game companies that are working on projects you believe in and game companies that seem solid and invest.

Investing = hoping to get money back out of it, in these terms they are only trying to keep the game to prosper
