As more of a response to the op, I'm sure that, just as MMOfans are diverse, so are their music tastes. Maybe fans of various things just seem to congregate in similar (virtual) places.

My music taste is eclectic. I can find something I like in almost any genre. Metal is not my favorite but I don't think I have a favorite for that matter. I listen to things I think sound good. I used to play Unreal Tournament but instead of driving rock guitars I would play something relaxing like Jesse Cook while I fraged away to my heart's content.
When I play MMO's I just run some web radio with rock/metal/alternative music on it and just let it play. Half the time I don't even realize what I'm listening to.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
It's funny, I really liked metal back in my school days, still like it now just don't really listen to it anymore... but for some reason I hate when metal style music gets put into video games o.O its just always seems a bit 'off' or out of place.
That makes me pretty sad, but to be honest, I didn't really like the sound of A Sense of Purpose (except The Mirrors Truth), I'm still hanging onto Clayman and RtR.

I like Metal, but then I like almost every type of music. I guess I draw the line at Polkas.

Heavy metal is not my favorite type of music by far. I am mmo-centric and I like soft folky weird jazzy stuff more.
Black/Death/Thrash metal ftw. My favorite bands are Emperor, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Dissection, Burzum, Agalloch, Autopsy, Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy, Dismember, Slayer.

I dont really like 99% of metal. I am more into the 'somewhat' hard rock category. Like Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, Rise Against, etc.
And then oddly enough, good R&B (especially 90's), lol.
