Seriously I just want everyone to try this excersise with me.
Close your eyes, and imagine for a moment that The Old Republic isnt based off a huge IP (Star Wars) and imagine it doesnt have a 150 million dollar budget, and that it isnt being made by everyones go to RPG company "Bioware".
It looks terrible! Seriously I want to like this game just as much as the next person, but you cant tell me that everything going on in that video doesnt look like some cheesy game for a console. Theres nothing MMO like about it, nor is there anything exciting about it.
And of course im sure ill see, "O its Alpha, the game will look and play totally different in a year and a half."
Watch that video of WoW at around the same time development wise as SWTOR. The Animations and everything are the same, the only changes are the UI once the game launches. Go ahead and look at other videos too, you will see that the core gameplay looked the same.
Now im sure is the part where people will bring up the "Story pillar is whats important." Yes that is important, but we have already seen the same thing in a little game called AOC, and was the story awesome? Yes! Was it the best part of the game? Defiently. Would a entire game based on just that story part be intresting and fun? Probably. And is it worth a monthly fee to play that single player story? You tell me.
I cant honestly say that it makes any sense for someone to want to play a game and pay a monthly fee for it, when its just a single player story with multiperson side missions taked on.
On top of that, how long could that possibly last? Do you really think Bioware and EA will get back the money they threw into this game? Is the money showing at this point? No its not.
Seriously people, lets forget the hype and the faces of fame that surround the game. Instead lets judge the game on what we are given, and not what is promised or foreshadowed.
Are you even taking the time to look at the game?
Yea Im taking the time to look at exactly whats been shown to us, people keep acting like there is no videos, the video up above is part of a series, and there is a tonf of footage out there of the game to make a choice about it. Your telling me that my opinion on the game isnt valid because I havent been given enough information to judge the game upon. Im saying thats bullshit, because its the exact same footage ive seen of AOC and every other game before it, and as much as people want to say "Theres so much more to the game" that then begs the question,
Have you ever happened to notice how the games never look like they do in the videos? No? Pay more attention then.
Then why not show us? Why show us a clunky combat video with horrible looking animations, and awkward characters almost floating across the screen? I mean I could be totally wrong, maybe BIoware really does have Full Space Combat and huge raids on Endor planned for the game, and a full combat system revamp, but from all the information thats been shown thats not in the cards for this game.
You mean the ones that come from during early development? It would be like judging Avatar on video's taken before the special effects were added when they were still talking to golf balls on sticks.
The environments are simply breath-taking and the character models are just fine.
"The Character models are just fine." I dont even need to explain anything for this one, even you cant come to terms with saying the models are above average. I wouldnt even care about the sub par looking characters if their movements wernt so awkward, but when you stick horribly animated characters on clunky movement animations, its a disaster.
The character models ARE just fine. YOU Just don't like them and prefer to complain over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again as though everyone else should agree with you. My mother used to call it "being a broken record" and she'd punish us for being so aggravating.
And as far as judging the game based on what we are given (a few small video clips and some screen shots) and not what is promised or foreshadowed.
Small video clips? Some Screen Shots? Are you even following the game?
Everyone is making preconceptions of this game (you, for example) based on the relatively little data that's been presented to us.
There is enough date and enough video gameplay to make a assement about the Core game, and I think it looks horrible. Like I said, the combat looks terrible, the solo story missions and advancement doesnt scream innovation to me rather than "Cop Out", and the Animations as I have stated are way below par for a game that has such an expansive budget. To me, they should have gone with a different engine, one you know, that was tested and approved.
No, there isn't. There's you trying to scare people. And judging a gamebased on pretty much nothing but tiny tidbits. Nothing more.
We don't know how they're handleing ANYTHING save for a small bit of a questline with two people.
I think we defiently have been show alot more than a questline haha.
Prove it.
I applaud them for their efforts to bring something new and innovative to the genre, especially in the face of this obnoxious group of people feels obligated to shout out ridiculous notions such as "this will be a single player game!" and other general bologna.
....Its even been stated by the developers in interviews that the game will be able to played from the first level to the last solo. Also what innovation? You can look at the video I posted and tell me something innovative about the combat? About the UI? About the Animations?
So what? EVERY game on the market can be played from start to finish solo. And your point is what exactly? That doesn't mean it only has solo play. There has even been proof shown on here that you gain more xp by grouping than you do by soloing. Stop twisting things to freak people out.
The people that are dissing the game are only doing so because it's "nonconformist" to do so.
You know in most cases you might be right about this, I do agree alot of people like to pull this card, sadly your not dealing with one of them.
I ran out of time. I'll finish this later.
Back to finish it. Sorry, had to go to work and finish my paperwork before I could come back.
It's the same kind of person who won't listen to a certain genre of music, regardless of how good a particular song/group might be or how much they'd enjoy it if they allowed themselves, simply because it's in that specific genre.
I have been in over ten Ska bands in the past 5 years. My favorite Genre is Metal, I listen to Punk while I work, while im studying for a test i play classical, and when I go out with my friends to the city we throw on the All Jazz Channel, I have right now in my CD case anything ranging from:

What does this have to do with anything?
This kind of closed-minded, self-made ignorant person makes me sick.
I dont have to go into the many reasons why your wrong about this, at least concerning me. But let me just tell you this, if you think im closed minded, because a company with a 150 million dollar budget on a game, that is going to come out in a little over a year, has shown over a half an hour of gameplay and has failed to show me anything else concerning the game whether it be Crafting, Space, or whatever...
And have said on a constant basis that the game will be very solo oreinted, with 8 classes all very similar in style to every other modern day MMO class, and no way of effecting the actual game world or doing anything else with the gameplay thats new or innovative besides adding a scripted story arc, well then im sorry but your seriously crazy.
Its all in your imagination. A half hour of game play taken from early on in creation is NOT something to base this "its going to suck" opinion on. You might as well just be watching stick figures. Stop freaking out.
It is no more solo oriented than any other game on the market THAT YOU KNOW OF. So knock of this "we have heard tidbits over the last year, and extrapolated on them to mean whatever we want to it to mean so its fact".
Everyone needs to shut their mouth until the game is released. At that point, if you don't want it all you have to do is NOT get it. You can even complain about it on the forums, but until then....
SHUT THE HELL UP ALREADY
So instead of giving our opinions on an open forum and discussing our issues and concerns about a game, we should instead keep it to ourselves and never speak up about anything. Didnt you say earlier that I was Closed minded and Ignorant?
So to you, being closed minded and ignorant means keeping quiet and not having an opinion on something?
You aren't giving an opinion, you're trying to scare people and overreacting. Its too early to form opinions on anything. But you refuse to see that fact.
Now thats out of the way, let me get back to why I made this post in the first place. To me it just seemed like people had gotten jaded by the typical promises and hype that goes with any game. Im simply posing a question to everyone with this thread and thats,
"Why do you really like the game and look forward to it?"
Because its Bioware and EA, two of the best companies in the world. Because its Star Wars. Because Lucasarts actually took an interest in it so it will fit with canon. THAT is why I'm willing to give it a chance.
Like it? I haven't played it yet to say whether I'll like it. And I won't say either way. Why? Because I'm reasonable. Obviously you aren't.
I can easily see after reading peoples posts who are genuinly excited about the game and who are just looking for the next big thing, thinking money and a big name IP will make a great product.
Either way, no ones wrong in what they like, but if theres a forum to discuss it, im going to say my problems with the game.
Except that the things you're complaining about are things that have only have the tiniest shred of truth to them. You're making up the rest to suit your "this is going to suck" theory.
On that note, I do apologize if my original post came off as less than informative about why i disliked the game. Hopefully now people will understand that Im less than thrilled about the game for real reasons and not just as someone said "He Dislike the game because he... dislikes the game.
Once again, you don't have any reason to "dislike the game". And you expecting everyone to agree with you on why you dislike the games (despite the fact that you have been saying nothing but exaggeration) is the worst thing about what you've said.
The only real error the OP is making, aside from perhaps some emotional hyperbole, is equating what he likes/dislikes about an MMO with what is right and proper for all MMOs. As such, I will strive to offer my opinion as one.
Everything I've seen in the video footage looks fine to me. I very much like the heavy-story aspect, and as for how long that might last (a point the OP brought up), I fully intend to play every class story from level 1 to the end of that story. I expect that will take quite a long time.
I absolutely love that I can do all this as a single player. I can say for a fact that if my story gets interrupted more than a few times with forced grouping quests, that will cause me to drop out.
I am very glad that there is a lot of instancing. While I enjoy seeing others in the open areas, making the game feel alive, I certainly do not welcome any intrusions when I am trying to complete a quest, particularly one important to a storyline.
Beyond this, we (or at least I), haven't heard much about other things that matter to me, like crafting, an auction house and so forth. I can state that from everything I've heard/seen so far, I will most definitely be signing up.
The only people I see that care about hype are the people with a hate on for the game. The rest of us are just taking it in as the information is released. But as far as I'm concerned, it looks awesome.
I agree with you. The only ones freaking out about the game are the haters. The rest of us are waiting to see what there is to offer. The only other forums I've ever seen so many haters on is the SWG forums. Its become incredibly childish. If you don't like what you've seen, go away. Like intelligent mature people. Thats what everyone ELSE does when they don't like a game. They don't sit around on their forums trying to scare the living crap out of everybody.
You guys are 100% correct imo. I'm trying my best to stay out the discusions about this game as I don't think i've ever been as excited about any game like I am about this one. It doesn't matter how many times people say reasonable things like this. Some ellements of this community will just keep trying to tear everything down just for there own ammusment . Look at what hapened before the releases of Aion and Darkfall for example. Unfortunatly its just human nature. As a species we are prity retarded.
Speak for yourself. I played Aion a good four months before offering ANY criticisms thereof. Same goes for Darkfall. If you think that the only thing that goes on in these forums is bashing, think again. A lot of good discussions have come out of these so-called bashers. To compare this game's upcoming success or failure to that of Aion and Darkfall does TOR a complete disservice. Maybe in comparison to World of Warcraft, or Everquest, or even something like EVE Online, then you sort of are in somewhat the same realm of discussion.
Why do I bring these games up and not others? Specifically for their originality. WoW took the best features of curent and past MMOs (of the time) and innovated them to wonderful ideas.
Everquest was one of the first MMOs.
EVE Online, well, its just EVE. Its one server, and its biggest feature was that one individual can drasticallly affect or destroy another guild or the economy.
Aion was garbage, and it was said on these forums many, many times. There was credibility and validity to the statements. Darkfall to this day is a major gankfest that resembles complete anarchy. If you enjoy that, go for it.
If the number of reviews of "people say[ing] reasonable things" about games gets taken for granted, so too will the number of thoughtful and critical reviews of garbage games also get taken for granted.
Thats why I said "Some ellements of this community" And for every decent discusion we had there was also just as many pointles or hate threads that went nowhere. Thats just what hapens before the release of a big game. personaly, I prefer to make my mind up about a game after I have played it. Also, I dont have to take the fact that there are thoughtful and critical reviews on this site , by this community for granted, otherwise I wouldn't log in every day.
Well then, I'm glad we are on the same page. I was beginning to think you hated us.
Sorry If I gave that impression man. I hate hype trolls, Fascists, bigots, people who don't like cheese.....Oh and any form of intolerance
About the best thing to come out of this discussion is page 3 where the quoting of quotes quotes is so out of hand that you get this kewl 3D aspect when you scroll through it.
Weee!
Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.
goodthing i was never going to play this game i know friends that really want too but it looked lame from the start to me and im sure its only going to be good cuz of the name lol
*Sigh* Yet another Doom and gloom thread or I hate this game thread b4 its even close to beta teasting...
(BBBBBBBBBWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH installs plunger weapon system in the milleineum Falcon!)
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
I can't wait for the game myself, but realistically are there even 2 million MMO gamers left? I mean lets assume WoW never existed, would this even be attempted? I mean alot of the people I know who play Warcraft don't even like video games, they just like WoW cuz its WoW.
I will agree that the hype for this is ridiculous. People on this site don't realize the trend that keeps happening.
New game gets announced, some people get excited. A few details come out, more people get excited. The excitement builds on itself and soon we have people calling the new game to come out a WoW killer, or even an exec saying it will have 2 million subs. People are not rational when it comes to MMO expectations and it is getting old.
It happens EVERY time a new big budget MMO gets worked on, and everytime the game both doesn't even come close to the hyped expectations, and it doesn't do anywhere near as good as it was expected to do.
This game will never have 2 million subs, I highly highly doubt it will ever have a million. It may have a million in initial sales, but just like big budget games before it most of those sales will be from people who get caught up in the hype and don't sub up for month 2. At that point they'll be down to 300-500k subs and it will drop from there. Normally that would be a perfectly acceptable level of players and would be considered successful, but in this case with the budget that will be a failure and will cause drastic changes to the game and it's revenue model within 6 months.
No I'm not just out to post doom and gloom so I can come back and say told you so or disappear if it doesn't come true. I will still be around and will certainly admit I'm wrong if it comes to that and people can point and laugh at me. What I am trying to do is get people to start looking at new games rationally and not like little school girls who just heard Hannah Montanna is going to be at the mall today.
Every single time an MMO is released there are people saying it's going to be amazing. They don't listen to the truth of the game and they come to the forums within the first month of playing and say how the game isn't what they thought and they're quitting. Yet in every case what they say the game is, is exactly what other people knew it would be just from realistically listening to what information had been released. It happened with WAR, AoC, Darkfall, Champions, STO, and it will keep happening because no one gets it. Stop hyping games up and just read the information and think about it. T
his doesn't mean all of those games are total crap, or that every game to come will be crap. It means none of these games are what 2 million people want to play. The are games that anywhere from 75k to 300k people want to play, and there's nothing wrong with that. But instead we get forum wars everytime a new game is about to come out and then the month or two after release because people can't be realistic with what a game will be.
Simple rules:
Don't preorder.... EVER.
Don't sub up before a month or two has gone by and you've had a chance to hear lots of feedback and the company has had time to fix the inevitable long list of release, balance, stability bugs.
Try to wait for a free trial so you don't waste $50 on something you decide you hate after 2 days.
And do not buy a lifetime sub unless you've played a game for 2-3 months and know you are going to love it enough to get your money's worth.
And lastly don't be a giddy school girl who is about to meet Hannah Montanna, it distorts your thoughts and makes you angry when the game isn't what your brain distorted it to be.

The only hype coming about this game is from the fear mongers. The rest of us have been trying to actually talk about what the game is offering. The fear mongers have been going on and on about how this game is going to suck based on some exaggerated twisting of the truth that you have decided to consider reality.
*Sigh* Yet another Doom and gloom thread or I hate this game thread b4 its even close to beta teasting...
(BBBBBBBBBWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH installs plunger weapon system in the milleineum Falcon!)
Are you getting as sick to death of this as I am? Its gotten so bad that I almost don't feel like coming here anymore. The official forums aren't any better because all they talk about is how great its going to be.
I just want to talk about what it offers, not about how everyone is going to love it or how everyone is going to hate it all the time.
The only other place I've ever seen this much fear mongering is in politics.
Clunky graphics and animations (possibly due to alpha status, give them some benefit)
Overly-traditional class based gameplay from a company famous for openended skill systems
Stagnant 2-faction system where neitehr side can communicate or interact
Sketchy if any details on pvp
Sketchy if any details on crafting
Sketchy if any details on social interaction
Heavily, massively reliant on instances, which in other games has often led to a sense of isolation
What may, if true, be the most expensive-to-make PC game ever. (read the article on the main page; if those numbers are close to accurate it's terrifying)
Of course those pros are a big deal. We all wanna see Star Wars done right; and we all know Bioware makes good games. But so many of the decions that have led to the game as we know it worry me. I don't want guild wars in space with a few more cutscenes. I honestly want SWG with an updated graphics engine and all the stupid removed. Since that's not going to happen, I'll at least settle for a fun engrossing MMO experince with open world gameplay. Thus far I see no indication that's going to happen here either. I want to like this game, but I'm worried.
pros are definitely a huge plus...
but, correct me if i'm wrong, i thought the "traditional class based" roles weren't being considered. i.e. tank/dps/heal class roles. did something change recently? if so that's a pretty big change if you ask me. may be you're referring to something else? if so, then i misunderstood.
the only thing about the "sketchy..." cons that can be a con, imo, is the fact we don't know much about them. those items have a possibility of becoming a pro once we do have more info regarding them. so perhaps a third category of "unknown" should be listed. personally, until i know more about the pvp/crafting/social interaction they're not a pro or a con.
i don't get where the 2 factions can't interact. i can understand it in WoW, where it can be explained off by different languages being spoken (why the two factions haven't learned each other's language is beyond me, but it is a fantasy game...). but for the most part, in star wars, everyone spoke the same basic language, literally.
as long as there is engaging content, decent graphics, and blasters and lightsabers... i will be satisfied. hopefully there will be more. we'll see.
if it was almost anyone but Bioware, i think i might be more skeptical. i have faith in them, but not blindly. i expect a good game. on the other hand, just because it's star wars doesn't mean i'll just roll over and take what i get. if that was the case i'd be playing STO right now lol.

Excellent rebuttal to a rebuttal, Moirae.

All true, but it's the players that are creating the hype on this one to a large extent. They're the ones trying out different URLs to find the beta launcher, or unrevealed sections of the SW:TOR site or obsessing over the count-down clock on Biowares sites, and then coming here to speculate about what it could all mean.
One very important trend in your assessment is the propensity for people to decide for themselves pre-launch, pre-beta, pre-personal-hands-on what the game is going to be like. Generally, they have decided (with nothing to back them up other than their own imagination) that the game will be PvP focused/hardcore/pure PvE/sandboxy/whatever. If the game that finally arrives is not 100% in line with what they decided it should be, then they'll loudly proclaim it to be a failure. I even see players in-game on other games 6 months post launch jumping up and down on forums telling the devs they should be changing the game drastically to suit what they as individuals want....it's crazy. People aren't inclined to wait and see (and more importantly spend time with) what they're given before launching into "this is teh fail" mode.
So I agree 100% with you, but that won't stop people from anointing game x the new saviour of MMOs and then proclaiming it to be the death-knell for MMOs twenty minutes after launch. It's just something some people do, I guess.
Is it the fact that people dislike the game that you find hard to accept.. or the reasons that they dislike the game which you refuse to accept?
personally im not all that thrilled over the stylised graphics - their too much like the starwars cartoon thats on sky these days, which i dont watch because i can't abide them - to me they degrade the whole starwars genre rather than enhance. but i can accept that some might like them for the same reason - even the cartoon...
but the graphics may not be that much of a gamebreaker if the game experience is a good one, a red flag perhaps, but if gameplay and social aspects of the game are good, it can be overlooked.. it may be irrelevant eventually if they go for the micro transaction method rather than subs payment method, as i wouldnt play a MT game anwyay, regardless of IP or even, how good the game was.
No, it doesn't look terrible to me. It looks pretty standard for an MMO nowadays, and even better than the majority of MMOs graphics-wise.
I like that one class's flame-thrower weapon. I wonder where they got the idea for that? It'd be pretty neat to grab a flame-thrower in Fallen Earth and burn up a few guys to put them out of their misery afterwards with a few shots to the head with my pistol. Are those some sort of laser weapon? Must be sci-fi. We have enough sword and sorcery MMOs out there, it's nice to see a sci-fi one.
The UI looks incredibly standard for an MMO, though, again, I can tell it's a sci-fi MMO by the UI. Maybe a standard UI is best in MMOs? After all, it means a far less steep learning curve and everything seems familiar.
The zones look quite different from each other, that's a good thing. I won't suffer from "zone fatigue" like I do in some games where everything looks basically the same (Fallen Earth for example.) The only other game I've really seen with such varied zones was WoW I think. It seems like a good design choice to me.
Hmm... That cover system looks cool. I really, really wish more games made use of cover systems like that. I remember being able to lose mobs in FFXI by running around a hill so they couldn't see me anymore. I HATE it when wizards shoot right through pillars and other obsticals and hit me in Age of Conan, it's one of my least favourite parts of that game. So yeah, the cover system is pretty cool (and about time in MMOs) though the green blobs of where your character can hide might be a bit immersion breaking. Is that one class only able to use cover, or will all of them?
The classes look quite varied. I like that laser-sword guy, it's almost as if they took Medieval knights and updated them for the sci-fi setting. I wonder how they're supposed to block laser guns though. I certainly wouldn't want to face off against a bunch of laser gun wielding guys with nothing but a sword, even if it is a cool laser sword. Woah, he blacked the lasers with the laser-sword! How on earth can he do that?
So, overall, many things look quite standard for MMOs, like the UI, graphics, maybe even the classes. Many things look interesting, like the sci-fi setting, the varied zones, the cover system, the sci-fi twist on old favourites.
Overall, it kind of reminds me of WoW-in-space. I'd say it's worth trying out.

I think the main issue right now is theres a lot of misinformation being spread from those that don't want to either A) Believe what BioWare is saying or B)they do believe what BioWare is saying and still comment on how terrible or unsuccessful its features will be.
I can understand some sentiments as you've described.... "I don't like the graphics." "I'm not a star wars fan" "I do not like the BioWare Story Based gameplay"
But when people say "The game is going to be completely single player" "The game is going to be completely instanced" "This game is a WoW clone in space" whilst not ever playing it, and mostly not knowing anything about the speculated features it makes it tough to just accept these reasons as being valid for disliking the game.
Its hard to please everyone, but from everything im reading lately (not specifically about this game but generally) more games are becoming more and more solo friendly, so perhaps its the way people play MMO's these days thats changing, personally i prefer playing group orientated games, as long as a game caters towards that as well, then that is acceptable to me - my favourite games of all times were games that encouraged interdependance. depending on certain conditions, i will probably buy this game when it comes out, if only to see for myself whether its any good. as long as its not a MT/cash shop game that is.
Sounds like WoW with a Star Wars skin. Not that it's a bad thng. But WAR and STO said they had all traditional elements of mmo's too. It all comes down to how broad and deep the game-play is that transcends just being a leashed character that is dragged down a road of quests.
I think some people need to actually go look at some of the reviews and watch the videos of this game. btw that video the op showed was really low rez, the original video that i saw looked much better than that so dont know who did that video but the actual one up on the swtor site is much better at least to me.
op you are trying to say this game will suck because of your personal tasted, you dont like the graphics, that is fine but that doesnt mean this game wont be good, i think blizzard has already proved you can have a game with bad graphics be a megahit. more players are looking for a fun game rather than a movie. my opinion is the graphics are well done, the landscapes are beautiful, i really like the stylized realism design they went for. they made the game different, they could of made the game look real and had really awesome avatar style graphics but if they did then most assuredly the game would flop because most people dont have top of the line computers nowadays and wont buy one for a game, any game. this way they have the game more accessible to more players and the game looks different and unique. i llike it, many others like it, and some dont.
to the rest of the people stating blatant lies about the game to make it look bad, your sad and pathetic.
the lies i mean are these:
single player game
heavily instanced
no open worlds
each and every one of those statements have been proven to be false, by darth hater and other reviewers and by bioware themselves. to continue to state obvious lies with the intent of damaging a game is just sad and pathetic, if you dont want to play that is fine but try not to discourage others from playing by spreading lies.
to the poster that stated the first sith quest was to go in a cave and kill spiders. can you link that artilce or video, because i have not heard that and i have read every single article and watched every video from multiple sources on this game not to mention that tor website has a list of all articles and stuff on the game and i guess i missed it or forgot or bioware missed it but i would like to read it if you can post the article or a link to it.
finally op you asked why i would like ot play this game.
1. it is bioware developing and a stars wars game set in the old republic, i like the time period and the story. see i never liked the jedi, i thought they were uppity and always trying to make people conform to their ideals and they would kill anyone that didnt. i actually thought anakin was right because he was upholding the law so to see the jedi get their asses handed to them by the sith and actually pay for the evils and atrocities they committed, im all for it.
2. i like the immersive feel of the voice overs and the story driven content.
3. i actually like the graphics of the game and basically from every video and article i have read this seems to be the game that i have been waiting for for quite a few years now.
i dont care if others dont like it, but i try not to spread misinformation about other games or bash other games, hell i didnt even bash sto after preordering it and deciding not to play and it would be nice if other people would do the same or at least spread correct information but i feel if the doomsayers started doing that even they would figure it out in their birdbrain heads that this game is gonna be really awesome so they spread lies instead.
Finaly someone that gets me. This game is not all that great except for the story line thing. Somepeople force themselves into thinking it will be good because of all the big names behind it. Blizzard wasn't that big but look where it is now. SWOTR so far is not that promising except for the thing BioWare can only do wich is make a diverse 4 or 5 decisions when someone asks u what your going to do next wich changes the hole story in the end. But exactly thisame was in Dragon age: Origins and mass effect. There is nothing so amazing about SWOTR yet nothing that is not being done by alot of other companies and the fact that u have to pay monthly fee for it is just even more ludicrous.

I'm just pointing out your post because it's the last one to make this statement, but what I say just doesn't apply to you but everyone else who thinks the same as you.
How do you know this game isn't great? Seriously, you have seen a "few" Alpha videos and make up your mind about a game a year plus in advance of it's release. That's just stupid, most of us gamers want developers to spend time on games in development before release to achieve that polish, this is the #1 factor of why WOW has been the top dog for half a decade.
But woah and behold the gaming community finds out that Bioware is working on this new SW MMO and we all want some footage now!! 2 years in advance and yes show me some footage that isn't 6 months to a year old, that's right 1.5 to 2 years before the games release!
Now I'm not saying that a lot will change from the videos we have seen and most likely will not, but basically they have the game ready to go 1.5 to 2 years before release, so what are they doing with all that time?? POLISH
I'm not hyping the game saying it's gonna kill WoW or be a massively huge success, because I don't know as much as you and others have no clue on whether this game will be great.
I have faith in Bioware with one thing, they make games that are fun and isn't that what gaming is for the majority of us? A chance to escape from life a little bit at a time and have so fun? I have no doubts that Bioware will deliver with the fun factor how long that fun lasts and will I continue to be a paying subscriber month after month, I have absolutely no clue, but I'm sure I will enjoy the ride.
I think some people need to actually go look at some of the reviews and watch the videos of this game. btw that video the op showed was really low rez, the original video that i saw looked much better than that so dont know who did that video but the actual one up on the swtor site is much better at least to me.

I'm with you on all the above. The mis-information campaign on this game is amazing. It's as if the haters are afraid of this game becoming successful because no one is playing what they consider to be good. I didn't like the first artwork for this game either but once those dev walkthrough videos came out I liked it much more. The sith fighting spiders bit came from those videos so that is what others are referring to. I don't know if that's where you start off, but so what if you do? You'll be fighting people later on.
Comments
I am sure glad that decided that this game is bad a year from release, probably a good plan...
I mean alot of the people I know who play Warcraft don't even like video games, they just like WoW cuz its WoW.

pros are definitely a huge plus...
but, correct me if i'm wrong, i thought the "traditional class based" roles weren't being considered. i.e. tank/dps/heal class roles. did something change recently? if so that's a pretty big change if you ask me. may be you're referring to something else? if so, then i misunderstood.
the only thing about the "sketchy..." cons that can be a con, imo, is the fact we don't know much about them. those items have a possibility of becoming a pro once we do have more info regarding them. so perhaps a third category of "unknown" should be listed. personally, until i know more about the pvp/crafting/social interaction they're not a pro or a con.
i don't get where the 2 factions can't interact. i can understand it in WoW, where it can be explained off by different languages being spoken (why the two factions haven't learned each other's language is beyond me, but it is a fantasy game...). but for the most part, in star wars, everyone spoke the same basic language, literally.
as long as there is engaging content, decent graphics, and blasters and lightsabers... i will be satisfied. hopefully there will be more. we'll see.
if it was almost anyone but Bioware, i think i might be more skeptical. i have faith in them, but not blindly. i expect a good game. on the other hand, just because it's star wars doesn't mean i'll just roll over and take what i get. if that was the case i'd be playing STO right now lol.
Excellent rebuttal to a rebuttal, Moirae.

personally im not all that thrilled over the stylised graphics - their too much like the starwars cartoon thats on sky these days, which i dont watch because i can't abide them - to me they degrade the whole starwars genre rather than enhance. but i can accept that some might like them for the same reason - even the cartoon...
but the graphics may not be that much of a gamebreaker if the game experience is a good one, a red flag perhaps, but if gameplay and social aspects of the game are good, it can be overlooked.. it may be irrelevant eventually if they go for the micro transaction method rather than subs payment method, as i wouldnt play a MT game anwyay, regardless of IP or even, how good the game was.

I will try it when there is a free trial available. I expect this MMO to be another WoW clone. Nothing wrong with it, as long as it''s fun.
