I don't mind the races being essentially the same, but I think the problem for many is the new names. What's the point in changing their names if you're obviously using the same look? It seems like they are trying to pass off the same models as if they were new somehow when they are obviously not very new. But in the end, what does it really matter? XIV is basically the sequel to XI and so it's pretty standard to use a lot of the same look and feel of the previous game, and furthermore they would be kind of stupid not to. I do think the name changes for the races was an odd decision, but really I don't care that much and I don't think it's quite fair to call it "lazy".

Well, I guess they just wanted to emphasize that the world isn't Vana'diel, even if it is inhabited by the same looking races.

And one more thing... even though the races do look the same, lore-wise some of them have been changed quite a bit. Elves aren't some noble knights living in a medieval castle-like stronghold, but there's a more traditional wood elves vs. dark elves thing going on in XIV. Roegadyns are considered Pirates that fare the seas and Ascetics that worship a dark(?) deity.

Hyurs do not differ a lot from their predecessors, but that only goes for the Midlanders.. the Highlanders on the other hand, are quite different compared to Hume's, based on looks and lore. They seem more like Viking-type race or something. I think the name change for this clan was logical thing to do.

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

I really hope the majority of the people who posted in this thread stick to their word and skip over FFXIV. Game communities would be much better if gamers stuck to the games they like, rather than going into a game that they hate and trying to change it to fit their needs.

^^ This is exactly what I think as well.

Like i said before in some other thread:

Are you interrested in FFXIV just because its the next big thing? Even though you don't like it...

Are you going to whine & cry for it to be changed to your need because you feel you are entitle to play the next big thing?

Please move along if you don't like it.

    Thank you
