Do you know that? Do you have reliable information saying that no one outside the company is testing the game?
Just the lead developer saying so:

yeah so... That still does not answer my question. You still do not have reliable information saying that they do not right now have people outside of the company doing so and the only way of finding that out is if you work for MHS or they tell you.
Stuff change.... get use to it. Sorry for the tough love.
ok, ill give you that. So supposedly CB already happened, and OB was supposed to commence a MONTH AGO. ALthough i've never heard of an MMO having a CB and NO ONE outside the company not knowing that it is happening. If you really believe that MHS is the first company to create a total black-out of typical MMO information, then explain please why they would that?
Because they can. They don't need to hype their game upfront, as they've got...
1.) no competition within the next two years, looking at the list of features
2.) no big gamestudio in their neck, telling them what to do
3.) enough money from private investors to develop their game in silence
Reminds me of CCP and EvE Online during 2002/03.
yep, as good as joker's response. "Because they can" thats is an awesome buisness motto. I wonder who will give a similar response, im betting on Harabeck, but he is being more neutral and makes more sense.
Heh, all I'll say is that I followed Warhammer. Mythic released tons of info about the game, and it only led to dissappointment when they had to retract things. All that pre-release hype certainly didn't help once the game was out. If Masthead manages to release a decently polished game, we'll all forget about this lapse in PR management.

Yes, I agree about final release, but still, Im just not as hyped about the game anymore, and surely many others arent either. Who knows what will happen by the time this game is out, the lack of hype might lead me to get another game like APB. With each passing month ER graphics are becoming noticeably older.

If Earthrise delivers 80% of what it promises, then I'm happily trashing my APB-Account, as APB does not even come close to what's announced for Earthrise. Same is true for any other MMO currently on the market or planned to release within the next 2 years.
Territorial warfare, playerbuild outposts, harvestable ressources (not gathering!), deep crafting system with lot's of options for customization, skillbased character-progression with every skill available to every character, offline-progression to keep casual players interested, thought-through faction-system that let's you switch factions, open world FFA PvP etc etc... there's nothing on the horizon that comes close to this list of features. The only MMO outthere, that has the features which set Earthrise apart from all the others is EvE Online, but it doesn't have avatars to walk around and shoot with unfortunately.
Earthrise has basically no competition within the next two years, so why should they rush anything or hype the game, where it's not needed?

Because if there is no interest in the game then there will be little to no success. But I do agree that rushing a game, especially a MMO, can be a costly mistake. But advertising is a necessary evil that is more valuable the more you embrace it.

You know how much I have seen this being said and heard people say "Ohhh I have no interest in the game and will not buy it" and then they go ahead and buy a week later. Look at Eve, they did not have a lot of advertising when they first released and even now they have hardly any advertising. Games can be a success with little to no advertising.
Sorry Joker but I dont agree. Eve is going strong as a cult favorite more then anything else IMO. It has attracted a very specific player base and that is what keeps it going strong. Now the same will most likely be true about Earthrise, we shall see. But in general, successful advertising leads aids a game far more then no advertising. The early days of a MMO are critical in today's market and word of mouth just wont cut it anymore.
And for the record, I did not say I was not interested nor that I was not getting the game. I did not even imply any of the sort. My statement was on general terms with games themselves. I am in fact very excited for this game and can't wait to see how much is delivered on release.
Great, thank you for the info!! Been checking my mail alot lately hoping for a beta invite xD (either for this or FFXIV). Earthrise is definitely one of the games I've been looking for this year. If I can't get an invite, then I hope OB comes soon at least xP

Masthead looks for some 80.000 subscribers within the first two month to consider their game being a 100% succesful launch.
And like I said, if the game is any good at release and fun to play, then these numbers will be achieved through hearsay alone, without any marketing or advertising. There's lots of AO-, Planetside-, Neocron- or SWG-veterans looking forward to a game with the features of Earthrise, you know.

Yes, I agree and I also disagree. In todays market yes there needs to be advertisements and stuff (too a limit over advertising is something that people recently do not like). However two of the main factors for attracting new players are positive reviews and also friends telling other friends about this great game. Websites like MMORPG.com is what brings players to new games.
In all honesty this what we are doing right now is advertising. We are talking about a game and giving people information about it. People will see this and go "Ohhh this sounds interesting maybe I should go to their official website or official forums."

Yh. maybe lets stop trying to advertise certain games. and start advertising MMOs not as Geeky games that loosers play but as a great way to interact with other people through game online and not the classical Guy with 4 inches thick glasess sitting in a dark room, Obese and typing like mad.
back to earthrise promotion. Earthrise it is in its own class of MMO that shouldn't be called Sci-fi only but also PDG(player driven game) like APB would also fall into this catagory. earthrise needs promotion not through random floating adds at the side of cheap websites. it needs adds like on T.V or something. If they do make it at the side of website. Don't make it cartoon people with a bunch of writing saying something no one gets or cares about. They should make it a vid. because all these adds on MMORPG website just look like cheap F2Ps that u can get of internet as download only and with cash shops that sell things that make other players better off.

They'd need adds with attrative celebrities from the target countries, who don't mind being thought of as gamers or actually are gamers, in those adds for that to happen....know of any? I don't....tho i dont really care about celebs.
Let's take one of the major MMOs last year AoC it had huge hype, very extensive marketing, but realy it didn't deliver much of it promises, on other hand it likely made it developing cost back from box sales and few first months... Still in a long run which is better hyper-hype or low-profile release, ofc moderated would be best and maybe they are aiming for later launch thus giving more time to testing and polishing to get better first-impression out of gamers...

I would generalize MMORPGS into Super Hype and No Hype games, there are/were great games with lots of hype pre-release.
But ER seems to have sunk very low from original hype, and is somewhere at the bottom of interest now since they have not released any news in ages.
I would like you guys to know that there are other players in closed beta that are not family or friends of the MHS. MHS does have an on going closed beta.
they are working on fallout online, thats why ER isnt getting any attention, trust me, its not coming out in 2010
You can say that, but Masthead has specifially said that isn't the case.
"1. Is Earthrise being cancelled?
No.
2. Is Earthrise being delayed?
The new project’s development is entirely separate from Earthrise. There will be no delays due to V13 development, and only people whose resources are no longer necessary to keep Earthrise on track (due to finishing certain systems or milestones) will be (or have been) moved to the V13 team.
3. Are resources being taken from Earthrise to work on this new project?
Earthrise development is not going to suffer in any fashion due to this new contract. Think of it as an addition to the family. "

Let's face it, MHS has been telling us that Earthrise is one quarter away from beta for over two years.
There's no CBT right now. There was no CBT six months ago. There will be no CBT six months from now.
After four years in development they haven't even released a screenshot of the GUI. And you honestly want to lead people on and say they have a CBT underway?
Please. Following this game is a complete waste of time.
There hasn't been an official announcement for months. It's been almost a year since a dev has posted on the forum. The promised video is seven months late. No official news about the game has ever been released through the game's website.
This game is vaporware. Do yourself a favor and start following another MMO.

I remember when you used to be constructive Cav. It's sad to see you turn troll. I agree that the lack of media is frustrating, but that could just reflect a PR decision to run pretty dark while they finalize things. Many games have suffered a huge backlash by overhyping themselves. And moving the release date back? Gasp. That never happens with MMO's right?
"Is Earthrise in beta? I keep hearing conflicting information. updated 29 June 2010
Closed beta has been going on for a while now. At this stage of beta, we currently have a limited number of community testers present, and look forward to issuing more community invites within the next few weeks.
Later stages of beta, including what is known as "open beta" will open up in the near future. We are committed to providing the very best game we can to our eager community and look forward to having you join us in a beta stage if possible!"

This game is not vaporware, MHS is doing it a much different way then what other typical mmos company release information. I really believe it was due to the fact of the horrible responses they have had to the combat videos and other poorly put presentations.

IM there once a week. nothing new there. gonna change ,my hype for this game to 0

anyway, there hasnt been any significant news or anything for the past 2 months regarding the Beta
i hope everything is going well there in the CB, and hopefully this game will be out around September or October
