what level are you guys? as with most games that have been out at least  a year the newbie areas tend to be sparsly populated.  Ive heard it picks up once you get to Bree and the Lone Lands but only during prime time play hours.

I was excited to get a Founder Beta Invite to Lord of the Rings Online, and stayed with them throughout the entire beta process and even got the FREE Lifetime (when it was being offered for limited time before actual lanch day).

Since then I sometimes play but log off after a hour due to several factors.

    The guild was with disbanded...

Not enough people to group with

Majority seems interested in doing the 4-8 hour raids

Majority seems not interested in helping with pve quests

Server am on (Firefoot) appears to be slowly dieing a painful death

The Devs changed the focus of the game from Pure PVE (Soloable to Group) to a Raiding Type Game where you have to sit at your computer for 4-8 hours without a break.

Current crop of Devs seems to forget that lot of players do not want a MMO that is a SECOND JOB.

MMO has become unfun and unplayable.

The current Expansion is a not a PVE friendly expanison, it was created with the Raider Type Mindset

<--- Do not bother getting a lifetime it is a waste of your money and you get no refunds...

<-- beta testers who play the test server are ignored and shunned by the DEVS. Test Server is already dead so do not bother playing there...

came back to the game a few months ago, was on Brandywine, noticed the same thing. Moved to Gladden and there seems to be more of an even level distribution there.

OP:  things are pretty spread out from 9-13, as each race has its own line of quests in their own area.  Things converge a little once you hit Bree, around 15-20ish.

Brandywine, by my understanding, is the most populous server, but it could be populated mostly by hi-bees.

I've found Firefoot's pop to be moderate in the lower levels, and relatively busy in the uppers.  Regardless, it was still difficult to put together a group for the Book 1 content, which makes me glad they made it all solo-able.

oh so i should just hang on then on the elen server?   i heard it has the most pvmp going on could be wrong thou lol.

thats why i picked that server. my wife only wants to do pve thou haha,

I can only speak about the european servers (Morthond) and there everybody seems to be running around in Moria.

Starting areas are pretty much empty, then comes Bree which is well populated. Don't know about North Downs (I was always able to find a group there, but that was about half a year ago or so) and Trollshaws but Angmar was almost dead, no one around there for grouping (few weeks ago).

Most of the players are in Moria and Mirkwood at the moment collecting their radiance gear and stuff, so... many of the low level areas are mostly empty.

Another problem is, i think, that many people just rush through the game to get to Moria as fast as possible.

The game has been out for quite a while, also has a couple expansions under it's belt. I wouldn't expect you'd find a heavily populated starting area.

As to server selection, I played on Landroval, the "unofficial RP server"  you'll see a lot of white names (rp'ers) but they are very helpful and welcome new players. I've never had a bad expeirence with the playerbase on that server.

Give it time, reaching the ripe old age of level 9 or 13 is hardly a large enough sample to make a judgement on a game.

I play on Landroval, And in my opignon the population is very good (once you hit bree you will go across tons of player, Alot of new player come to Landroval don't know why)  But I personally picked it because it was the unofficial RP server,  And planing on staying here till game crash, (I bought a Lifetime and have no regeat about it)  There is always ppl to find for end game dungeon (Low level instance tend to be harder to find group) But that like in every old MMO.

I hope it help a bit and sure hope you guyz enjoy your Lotro expereince.

I Play on Meneldor, its not the most populated but I have noticed a big increase in the lone-lands from the starting area's Ered Luin/Shire/Bree. I say join a Kinship if you want to socialize and meet people that's your best bet most kinship's are very friendly and will let anyone join new blood is hard to come by. IMHO if you enjoyed everything else about the game minus the fact that it can be a ghost town (which i think is a bad way to put it ,since I think most people are hanging out in moria and lorien now) why stop due to just that?

we wont quit the gamde we love it.  i just wish we could find a kinship. i would change servers no big deal for me lol. her i will see it. but i would change servers just for a kinship. i just want to see people lol...

  • Tob7Tob7 Member Posts: 24

If your interested we have a very nice Kin on Landroval,  We have player at every level range almost.

Alot of active ppl and High levels are always willing to answer your question at any time.

We are not a Kin with 500 member but have plenty of Lifetime Sub, and new player come almost every week.

So just send me a pm if your interested so I can hook you up with the Kin :)

Kin Name: Steel against the Storm

Server: Landroval <-- IMO Very Good Population

    Thanks.

Isn't Brandywine the unofficial PvMP server?

If it is then that is probably why.

  • TaoMcDohlTaoMcDohl Member UncommonPosts: 103

I play on Landroval, level 32 at the moment.  The higher I get, the more people I run into.  The lowbie areas are going to be sparse.  That being said, I can always poke my head into public chat channels and find people.  Landroval certainly has a decent population.

It must be the hours you play? Brandywine is not dead.

    ok.

first of all that is pretty low and you are not going to be seeing a huge amount of people at those levels. Once you hit Bree you will see many more, then as you go up in level, hitting moria for instance, you will see a lot more.

Brandywine has plenty of people on it.

I tried playing it, but it was so bland.  The recommender suggested that this was a heavy story telling game with rich lore, but I ended up killing gigantic spiders right from the start for spare change.  I just was so bored to tears right from the start I quit.  I did give it a try though and tried to stick it out longer than I normally do.

LotRO is far from dead. The started areas are a bit quiet but after that, the game is always teeming with life with loads of players all over. I have never had a issue of not finding people. I play on Arkenstone and its a pretty well populated server.

However, I do have a lvl ~26 on Landroval and it is fine imo. Give the game a shot for a bit longer and you will see.

as far as the chat being quiet make sure you join the global chat a lot of folks use that for everything, even though it can be annoying.

probably type "/joinchannel glff" to join it. some servers are different.

also, check the forums as well as watch ingame for a kinship so as not to be alone.

at least you can group with your wife! if you have 2 computers and two accounts i guess.

but, it is three years old so the early areas won't have tons of people. happily, it's a game where a slow pace has it's own rewards.

this being said, i don't play much even though i've subscribed since the start. they did such good work with it i can't quite get why i don't play more; other than maybe i need a break from the genre.

at least until ccp gets world of darkness going.

Bear in mind that the public chat channels are restricted to the zone you're in, so if you're in an empty lowbie area no-one will answer because no-one will have seen your question. Best to ask questions in places like Bree where there are always people around. You'll be told in the chat window when you change zone channels.

I play on Laurelin which is the European role-play server and there are always plenty of people everywhere and they're always quick to respond to questions. I can't speak for the US servers. The population as a whole is pretty healthy these days, the game is doing pretty well as I understand it.

I also play mostly on Landroval (also on Gladden) Landroval is a great server especially if you like the RP aspect of the game. There are always folks around even at the starting levels.

I'm trying to remember the global channels on Brandywine.  There *are* tons of people on, but I mostly play my max level toons and therefore see them all.  At low levels, especially outside the cities, it is *very* dead.  But that is no different than any other mmorpg that has been around more than a year or so.  It is a major flaw with linear progression based gameplay.

As the standby statement goes:  Join a kin if you are serious about trying to stick around.

  • leinad312leinad312 Member UncommonPosts: 319

In response to your comment about no one talking, you need to join the global looking for fellowship channel. Bad design on Turbine's part for not having default global channels.

    type /joinchannel GLFF

    Playing - FFXIV,  ESO
Played - FFXI, WoW, Lineage 2, Guild Wars, Aion, SWToR, LotRO, GW2, TERA, Rift, ArcheAge, TSW
