War zones, it would seem, are contested areas that pitt the Empire and the Repulic against one another in ground based PvP battle. The impression that I was left with after hearing what they had to say and the way that it was presented was that the War Zones would function in a style similar to Battlegrounds or Warhammer Online's scenarios.      War Zones/ battle grounds what ever you want to call them just made this games pvp garbage or a carebears wet dream come true. They took the wars out of Star Wars and made it Star instances. Plus the trialer looks nothing like the game play they must be using all that money up front to try and paint a pretty pictures for this crap.

Agreed. A game for carebears now. Also, these cinematics are garbage. THey show nothing and do nothing to but waste time and build up hype to get people to preorder befoer knowing what the game is about.

Is it gonna be heavily instanced? Would explain the warzones and ship for housing.

Is combat going to turn based like was hinted at? God I hope not.

Time to downrank the hype meter now.

Edsit: Is the microtransaction model still in place? Somebody going to E3 this year needs to ask.

I know, LOL where do we find these people who post nonsense without any real fact to back it up?

Don't get me wrong, my sole purpose to play MMO's is to pvp, i love full loot, i love death penalties and I love to PK, but these people on this site who love to toss around terms like carebear give us a bad name.

They barely mentioned any information and really just dropped a word or two in regards to PvP and these fools toss their hands up in the air and cry bloddy murder.

Please stop posting if your going to make wild unfounded accusations. Edit: I have to watch what i say, some cry baby reported me so I have some flame warnings against my account.

    Will do, after you.

was thinking the same thing about taking the Wars out of Star Wars, afte rall its not called Star Mini-Skirmishes, and considering the era this its taking place and all that... if its the only PvP they put in, then that settles my decision that i wont be touching this game. If they have other open PvP besides the battlegrounds garbage, then i may still give it a shot.

It sounds like the ganking douchebags are being turned away already... Thank you Bioware!

I love PvP, but it's no fun fighting someone who doesn't want to fight back.

Thats why most games have pvp and nonpvp servers. Dont want to get ganked, dont roll on pvp. Not very dificult to understand. My hope is they are going to announce they are going to have open pvp on dedicated open pvp servers.

right, because PvP in an open world, rather than instanced garbage only = ganking. if you really think that, youve probably never PvPed in any game outside of WoW.

It seems too many people have preset notions on how this game is supposed to be.  Just look at it as you would any other game from a different genre and take it for what it is.  More constructive criticism and less QQ, it's starting to sound like a daycare in here.

Ah.... so much to be said about both of your idiotic assumptions about how/why others play the way they do based on absolutely nothing but your own narrow minded ignorance.... but ill be nice to the thread.

Oh well, maybe this will finally give you folks the carebear utopia youve been crying about wanting. rather than you coming into PvP games and complaining that you got killed by other players until they dumb it down enough for you to survive. Like i said, if theres more PvP than just that, ill give it a chance, if not enjoy playing Star Candyland.

Pardon me, but just because some people like large scale, organized objective based pvp doesn't mean we're all alpha male gankers.

And quite frankly i like to gank and be ganked. It gives games more sense of danger and what interstellar galactic war may actually be like on an alien planet, rather than be killed be some predictable AI following pathing.

  • StandStrongStandStrong Member Posts: 2

Hmm, back to the topic of discussing the ships and PvP. From what they're telling us i'm getting an image ( In my mind, nobody elses... just assuming/hoping ) that these ships will maybe orbit around the planet we're currently visiting/questing/PvPing on? When you finish with that planet you fly back to your home ship using a fighter or smaller ship? Then from there the ship itself is instanced meaning the inside of the ship is instanced for you unless others are invited in and you can see through your windows at other players ships but just the outside. If you wanted to leave your current planets orbit all you had to do was travel outside of the orbit and maybe we could get like a cut-scene or how Mass-Effect had it where when you wanted to travel you clicked that planet in the neighbouring solor system and travel there through a cut-scene. Either this or you dock your ship at a station ( Kinda like SWG, where they had the taxi service ) however this will be different as all the ships will have their own docking ports so that way other players ( If invited ) can visit their friends ships or others can see others ships visiually from the outside of course and when you wanted to leave your planet ( Like i mentioned before ) use the Mass Effect inside your ship travel with the Cut-Scene or travel from that station to another station on another planet. These are just some of my own ideas i'm throwing out there.

Now to PvP... like others have stated i hope we get the options between Open world PvP, Battleground PvP and the idea i'm getting from War Zones is like the zones from Warhammer online where if you capped all the flags you'd get a buff but not just with the capture the flag scenario but like you go to this area on the map to PvP kinda thing. I think this could all work out for PvE dedicated servers so for those that don't wish to PvP they can just sit off to the side-lines and do their own thing while those that wanna PvP without the threat of being attacked while questing/going about your business can go into these War Zones/Battlegrounds and duke it out. I'm hoping they have Open world PvP on PvP dedicated servers as this is a fun aspect, fighting for survival from both questing and other players... gets your adrenaline pumping and the excitement is overwhelming. I'm tired of those bitching about " Ganking " as it's their fault entirely for rolling on a PvP dedicated server... the concept is not that hard, if you don't like the ganking go PvE. This decision is so simple even a monkey could do it. Anyways, i hope PvP is implemented if not the exact same way but similar to the things i've stated as that's the image i got from the article. Well that's my two cents, heres hoping for a great game!

large scale, organized objective based pvp... that sounds like battlegrounds to me, and the exact thing that the douchebag gankers are opposed to.

War Zones/ battle grounds what ever you want to call them just made this games pvp garbage or a carebears wet dream come true. They took the wars out of Star Wars and made it Star instances. Plus the trialer looks nothing like the game play they must be using all that money up front to try and paint a pretty pictures for this crap.

was thinking the same thing about taking the Wars out of Star Wars, afte rall its not called Star Mini-Skirmishes, and considering the era this its taking place and all that... if its the only PvP they put in, then that settles my decision that i wont be touching this game. If they have other open PvP besides the battlegrounds garbage, then i may still give it a shot.

It sounds like the ganking douchebags are being turned away already... Thank you Bioware!

I love PvP, but it's no fun fighting someone who doesn't want to fight back.

right, because PvP in an open world, rather than instanced garbage only = ganking. if you really think that, youve probably never PvPed in any game outside of WoW.

LOL, whatever. I'm inclined to agree with previous poster before you. Don't need gankgest alpha male pvper mentality players in SWTOR. Move along, this is not the MMO your looking for. Go about your buisness.

LOL!  That definitely gets my vote for post-of-the-week!

Ah.... so much to be said about both of your idiotic assumptions about how/why others play the way they do based on absolutely nothing but your own narrow minded ignorance.... but ill be nice to the thread.

How ironic that someone cries and cries while calling others carebears. lol  someone has issues.

Even more ironic that someone instantly jumps to unprovoked insults and calling others douchebags for simply stating they prefer doing something besides fighting a scripted AI mob, making themselves the biggest douchebag in the thread.

Sorry if i offended your overtly sensitive fanboism by saying i didnt like the lack of PvP in your precious game.... /sarcasm off

if you're not a douchebag ganker, then I wasn't referring to you.  If you are, then it is a deserved insult.

Now grab another tissue and get back to your crying.

Pardon me, but just because some people like large scale, organized objective based pvp doesn't mean we're all alpha male gankers.

And quite frankly i like to gank and be ganked. It gives games more sense of danger and what interstellar galactic war may actually be like on an alien planet, rather than be killed be some predictable AI following pathing.

large scale, organized objective based pvp... that sounds like battlegrounds to me, and the exact thing that the douchebag gankers are opposed to.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA..... i point again to my previous remark:

"if you really think that, youve probably never PvPed in any game outside of WoW."

No, we mean large scale, as more like a war, not a couple of small groups, and by objectives we mean things that actually matter and impact gameplay and the world around it, not just pointless achievements.

And you still have no idea as to the scale of the pvp offered, the size of the groups, nor the objectives or any impactt hey may have on gameplay... of course, that doesn't stop you from crying about it, does it?

Go play DAOC or WAR thats large scale objective based pvp. Not even close to doing BGs. Personally I like the idea of having a planet where war is being waged and you can travel there and join the fun.

I could've seen this coming from a mile away...Now let's hope that Bioware offers SOME kind of world PvP, or at least  a decent PvP rule set...Otherwise this game is already somewhat disspointing for me. :(

Seriously, most expensive MMO to make ever and they can't please both crowds...I mean,Nobody hears instanced PvP and gets super excited, its not like its a selling point, so I honestly don't understand why modern mmos have a bad habit of creating crappy little bgs and considering that the PvP selling point of the game.

Waiting for: Archeage, Darkfall 2.0, and Planetside 2.

R.I.P Shadowbane; The best MMORPG I've ever played...
