They said there is a warzone on Alderan.   So how do you pvp haters and pvp lovers know what that exactly means?

Couldn't that mean, the ENTIRE PLANET is a PvP zone, with "cities" people land in and such, and while not "safe", having friendly NPCs for one faction.  They might even be able to be taken over by gasp, the other faction in this warzone.

Or do you really think we will see a tiny area like the "battlefields" in SWG, that have markers saying where it's at, and as soon as you leave this area, pvp is over.

I understand people hate the game because it's Bioware or EA, or because it's a themepark MMO and not sandbox, or because it's mainstream, or because it's star wars but not the original movies kind of star wars.  That's fine, we know you don't like it.

But why do people explode upon the forums after a TINY bit of info about what will be talked about later scream bloody murder.  People wanted to know if housing was in.  They do.  Now it's not about that it's in game, but just the bad things they didn't clearify on the day that was just for EA, and not focused on the game till tommorrow

I know it's a full day to hold back the constant complaining and constant this game is perfect spam, but wait till tommorrow and we see and hear more.

And who says your opinion speaks for everyone?

Anyway, I'm greatly looking forward to more SW news and information.

It very well could mean the whole planet, which would be fun for some, but not all. So to keep everyone happy i hope half the planet is open world pvp :)

Wait they said instanced pvp wow that odd I just watched them announce it and they say a warzone on one of the planets. Sounds more like RvR lakes in WAR which would make sense considering Bioware an Mythic work together now.

Sounds like contested zones to me. The Republic and the Empire fighting for territory to control the planet via warzones. I like it!

People are so crazy about SW:TOR.

"Ships" are going to be exactly like the Ebon Hawk.

They're going to be exactly like the Normandy.

They're going to be exactly like Dragon Age's campsite.

Bioware makes the same game, over and over. Don't you realize that?

OMG the cinematic trailer was AWSOME, was the jedi chick, Bastila Shan?

That, i would be fine with. That's more open and not limited to X amount of players, and actually has some real point to it which impacts the surrounding area (like in WAR, where you had zone control effects with bonuses, unlocking zones, etc). Though if the judgement on it basically being just like a BG / SC is accurate, while it can be very fun at times it can only really go so far. Theres got to be more of an actual goal/purpose to the PvP while also keeping it open for people to continue jumping in at anytime and making the battles much larger, and Im hoping that they do that.

Though I also hope that unlike WAR, they do it in a way that doesnt turn into basically getting Warbands together simply to flip an objective, and then just leave it undefended so the enemy can flip it right back since its the quickest way for both sides to advance. Im hoping they make it so that when you take an objective, you actually WANT to stay and defend it against attackers rather than saying "I can get 3x as much out of this if i just let em take it and come back later to flip it again"

No, they didnt use the word instanced, but it was compared to BGs and Scenarios.... both of which are instanced, so using the word instanced would be kind of redundant, like saying "instanced BGs" when BG already = instance. If it were a more wide open thing, wethe rcompletely open world, or in RvR lakes like WAR they could have used those comparisons.

When I hear "like BGs" or "like Scenarios" i assume its instanced.

When I hear something along the lines of "like RvR lakes" i dont assume its instanced.

Either way, i guess we'll never really know until they release some more info, but those comparisons dont exactly reassure us.

Well I read the article and I also watched the announcement vid and nowhere was it stated by Bioware that it was like BGs. That was an assumuption made by the person who wrote the article which he then says that nothing has been confirmed.

Wow have you played any of those games? Dragon Age's campsite was actually much more involved than the Ebon Hawk in terms of the story. And Normandy had features that made Dragon Age's campsite look silly. But anyway saying it's the same thing over and over again is... umm no. That's like saying Baldur's Gate is Mass Effect 2 in different clothes.

The ships will probably be hubs and player housing just like Bioware said, and have more features than the ship in Mass Effect 2. I doubt there will be space combat.

This is really starting to sound like Mythic all over again:

    • cockiness: check

    • hype created via (very cool) CGIs: check

    • only a handful of ingame presentations: check

    • claiming to be a next-gen-MMO: check

Though I like the housing aspect having I hope its not like the Normandy the ship wasn't fully customizable in fact its been very limited and all the upgrades did was: helping your crew surviving the Omega 4 troubles.

I do love CGIs like everyone but people have to keep in mind often they have absolutely nothing to do with the game. Judging from the trailer I'd aspect at least Mass Effect #2# graphics then looking at the gay ingame presentation oh well. I know I know, the game is 1 year away BUT I'm missing the term "only" one year away. At this point they should have done all the important things and using the last year on polishing, bug fixing and making sure things are working as intended.

Bioware please show us the group game and some raidbosses e.g. ENDGAME.

as for PvP: Instanced PvP = carebear pvp

We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

It would be kind of pointless to make them pilotable if there is going to be no form of space combat anyway, it would just be flying around looking at pictures with no interaction with anything you see.

No actually, Bioware hasn't said that there will be no space combat. There is one dev who worked on Star Wars Galaxies who (at least partially) blames Jump to Lightspeed for the downfall of Galaxies (which is completely stupid IMO,) and that's as close to saying "no space combat" as they've gotten.

I've personally seen interviews where they said there may (or may nort) be space combat but they can't talk about it yet. Now we know conclusively, at the very least, that there will be a form of space travel. I'm hoping that if space combat isn't in the game at launch, then it can be added very easily at a later date.

This game looked pretty dang awesome to me before, but now it's reaching a level where I want to play it so bad it hurts...

War zones, it would seem, are contested areas that pitt the Empire and the Repulic against one another in ground based PvP battle. The impression that I was left with after hearing what they had to say and the way that it was presented was that the War Zones would function in a style similar to Battlegrounds or Warhammer Online's scenarios. HOwever, as was the case with startship, this has not yet been confirmed.

War Zones/ battle grounds what ever you want to call them just made this games pvp garbage or a carebears wet dream come true. They took the wars out of Star Wars and made it Star instances. Plus the trialer looks nothing like the game play they must be using all that money up front to try and paint a pretty pictures for this crap.

Just so you know, for every post like yours complaining about "carebears" there are far, far more people heaving a sigh of relief that PvP will be (supposedly) battleground-like.

Face it, PvPers like you are far, far outnumbered by the "carebears" you complain so bitterly about, and the marketing decision to make a game the majority of people would enjoy (read: "carebears") was probably made in the earliest stages of development.

I'm not sure why anyone would have thought differently other than tightly controlled PvP unless they had unrealistic expectations.

BW learning from GW2 not really sure about that since other than a couple small gameplay clips they have been all talk as well.  I played GW1 and it was an average game but GW2 sounds great but so did GW1. Just like until I have more concrete info and more vids on TOR I take a neutral standing. WAR had alot of neat ideas but they were poorly implemented the same thing can happen with GW2 or TOR.

Howdy, just a thought some people are complaining about the little pvp instances and stuff, well i am thinking that it might come later after all,Thier is a "uneasy truce" between silth and the republic which was clearly anounced and did say that thier are skirmishish here and there. i am not a big pvp person .but every now and then i do like to slaughter as in <cough cough> wow lol but anyway  looking forwarded to everything  about the game. i was so excited about star trek i played it about a month and went to max rank i was like wtf. this is stupid. but the game play was good i thought the ranking system needed a little tweeking. as do all games. lol games have thier good faults and bad faults take the bad with the good . anyway stay safe have fun .

This is turning out to be really disappointing.

Oh how I miss my huge open worlds, risk vs reward, slow pacing, grouping, community interactions being vital... Everytime I read about TOR something dies inside me.. instanced this, instanced that, solo this, solo that.

Whatever happened to MMORPGs being virtual, community-driven immersive worlds? Not that they care, they're getting a ton of cash right out the gate and that's all that matters nowadays.
