OMG. Ok so ... the whole Lalafel = Asura was just a sarcastic comment to go along with the stuff you`ve been saying about TOR being like WoW because of Models , GfX , you name it.

The fact that you jump the gun like this is very sad.

I learned something from this thread.

I learned that there much more people that dislike WoW then I expected.

In 2 days I couldnt make a single dude admit that SWTOR is a WoW with lightsabers.

EVERYONE saw it as an insult.

No WoW kiddies around MMORPG? Thats weird.

Youve been around long enough to know sarcasm is wasted in text. And wether its good or bad, thats up to the person, but the game does take a lot from WoW and tries to improve on it somewhat. Its just not everyones preference. Problem is with these threads, yes TOR is being criticized, but for what they HAVE shown and what many of us do not like about those things. Some of you feel differently and thats fine. But to put it in perspective, GW2 has released a hell of a lot less info than TOR, and yet is still the #1 hyped and in nearly every announcement ther ehas been nothing but praise for the direction they are going with it compared to GW1. TOR on the other hand, has gone the opposite direction of what many had hoped for, especially with their massive budget. Sure GW2 may implement things a lot of us dont like, but it hasnt happened yet. TOR has implemented many things that have its fair share of both haters and lovers.

Like AoC tried for adults only and guess what! Kids still played as females running around with tops off. GW2 will get kids and so will ToR. You don't think those little cutesty characters won't grab little kids that want to play it? Most children are at least 11-12 when they first start playing their first MMO and most of them are playing with their parents. Some don't so yeah they get a little aggressive and thats when the ignore button comes in. I highly doubt GW2 won't have kids in. With the models and races they are bringing out it certainly will as well with SW: ToR because its lightsabers.

ToR has a filter for the kids. It's called Clone Wars, little game by SoE. Where is yours?

Both games will be infested with noisy kids yes but the point I was trying to make is that SW2 is at least aiming for teen+ while Bioware wants anything 2+ heh.

The game design of SWTOR screems WoW with lightsabers with very simple gameplay made for children.

Thats all, thats the main reason I wont play SWTOR, in order to get the short span kiddies to play you need to make a simple game, just like WoW did 2006.

    Logic.

Wow, i'm glad that a GW2 fanboi's opinion of TOR and even myself is so low. What should i do now.

Look, i very happy you are totally in love with GW2. You can sit here and repeat the same bullshit opinion about a game all you want. The facts remain that GW2 is not that much differant that TOR.

I mean, i can keep repeating it, but, a simple way is to sit back with a pen and paper and without any personal feelings about both games, write a list of what is actually in the games as of today, a side by side list. when you are done you will see that they pretty much are alike and there's a few systems that are differant.

No body here is trying to convince you to like TOR, actually  no one thinks you should be here at all, since it's obvious you're not gonna play TOR. You really need to be hanging in the GW2 forums praising and critizing that game like most of us are doing with this game.

    THIS!

GW 2 likely mainly uses text for quests.  Same as 1st gen MMOs.

GW 2 will most likely not allow multiple players to influence the permanent direction of the mission choices. Like WoW.

GW 2 melee combat looks the same as WoW. The weapons or shields do not actually touch lol.

GW 2 doesn't do space just land like WoW. So forget about that or other planets.

GW 2 doesn't have an alignment system that accounts for the choices you've made in all your quests and compare to other players. Just like WoW.

Finally Arena.net is not known for their storytelling, kind of like Blizzard.

But of course you're saying who needs these "SRPG" elements that TOR will have. And of course when you put SRPG elements into an MMO that effect thousands of people besides just your player then they are no longer SRPG elements...  They become next gen MMO elements?

GW2 is going away from traditional text based questing, wrong info there.

The missions will be dynamic with superior mob AIs (if you dont attack enemy camp they will multiply and take over land, build forts and start attacking roads or some such, sounds extremely interesting gameplay, so you wrong there too.

The melee combat is explained in detail for the only melee class revealed so far ( can Bioware say the same? all you hear is fluff from them) - wrong info there too.

SWTOR have no space confirmed, wrong info there too.

As for PVP, you´d be very dumb to criticize GW´s PVP because whenever PVP discussions start only 2 games get mentioned as best at it, DoAC and GW.

GW2 will have the best PVP to date, always balanced perfectly.

Now.. go read on their official site if you want real info.

Ok now I know for certain youre a troll. You didn't answer the questions directly and gave answers I wasn't even talking about.

Although GW 2 may try out some new types of quests, they are still using text. lol I follow GW 2 and haven't heard anything about full voice overs which means they have to use text for some characters.

GW 2 promises dynamic missions. Hmm, that sounds like a SRPG element. And even then I'd bet on TOR taking the more MMO route because they allow multiple party members to influence choices in the mission. Multiple player choice is good combined with quest branching.

GW 2 melee combat looks boring and WoW like. Look at the videos of real gameplay that show actual weapon contact, blocking, blaster bolt deflection, jumping, charging, stunning in TOR. All GW 2 has released is something that looks like WoW with nicer textures and fluff camera angles lol.

It wouldn't be Star Wars without some kind of encounter in space, even if space is not explorable. Look at KotOR 1 + 2. And of course other planets. GW 2 is still just one planet, even less than WoW.

I did not criticize GW pvp lol. From playing GW for a few years I can't say it wasn't better than Eve Online, WoW, or WAR, or DAoC pvp to me. But the one thing that will be a good change in TOR is finally being able to have weapons come in contact with each other instead of watching your character swing at the air randomly and seeing the enemy's health drop lol.

And no mention of the light and dark alignment system that accounts for all the player's decisions. Actually gives the character some repercussions for the choices they make and can be compared to other players alignment.

And no mention of story immersion, which Bioware is top of the heap at and Arena.net and Blizzard are... not.

If we just want to boil it down to massively multiplayer story and pvp, the only reasons I play the MMO anymore, the gameplay videos of combat make me want to play TORs pvp more than GW 2 pvp. And the gameplay videos make me want to play TORs story more the GW 2s story. In fact GW 2 seems more like WoW in terms of story + pvp mechanics than TOR   O.o.

Just wanted to chime in here.  Yes guild wars 2 will have fully voiced personal quests.  Its one of the things that TOR and GW2 have in common, though GW2 won't be done nearly in the same scope as TOR.

Dynamic missions are "dynamic" because they start and stop at different times,  the actual missions themselves are pass/fail missions with particular stages that are cyclical.   What does this mean for the player?  It means that mission A is going to happen and if unchallenged it would turn into B C and D.  If you stop it along any of those points you can push it back to A and the cycle starts again.  All missions are based on pass or fail.  By failing A turns to B,  by passing A stays as A.   Confusing a little isn't it?  If you read what the developers say instead of jumping to conclusions on what "dynamic" means it starts to make sense.  Everything is programmed even down to how events can coexist in the same area, its all part of the developers plans.

Guild Wars 2 combat will be the same static combat as GW1.  They have skills, you click the skill it does it.  TOR has a "dynamic" combat system, where blades clash and players do different moves at random intervals giving the combat a choreographed feel.  This is not where Guild Wars 2 excels, they excel with their depth in their combat system.  Being able to cherry pick skills to make your desired build is what drove guild wars system to be popular today.  TOR will have its own class based skill set based on advanced classes, alignment, etc.  Guild Wars is keeping the standard "buy skills from skill trainers" as they did in the first one.  They each have their advantages and disadvantages.

TOR will have a space experience.  Will it be space battles?  No telling.  You will have space exploration, and you will be able to land on space stations.  GW2 has under water areas.. whether you have to swim there or zone there we don't know.

Guild Wars 1 did have a story, and it was done well, the story in GW2 will be different,  each game seems to have its advantages and disadvantages.  I am looking to play both games.  TOR is my game of choice at this time.  GW2 will likely hold my attention for a month or two, and I'll be happy to buy it as there will be no subscription.  TOR is my next pay to play game of choice...  supposedly they have more content then all BioWare games combined, and 200+ hours of gameplay per character -- with each character having completely different story missions.   This isn't just the biggest BioWare game ever created,  its shaping up to be the largest MMO created content-wise  ever.

But there will be text in GW 2. Maybe they have some voice overs here and there but I'd be shocked if they had the money and ability to do voice overs on the scale of TOR. Once players get used to voice overs it will be hard to go back to text. Just like single player RPGs, going back to text these days is a no no.

The promise of dynamic missions doesn't really appeal to me anymore, because I'm over sandbox gameplay for now. Our technology just isn't where it needs to be for a convincing fun sandbox type of game. Bitter veteran MMO gamer here. The sandbox always fails due to limitations in the technology. The only things that hook me onto an MMO now are story and pvp. The TOR features of multiple party quest conversation, voice overs, facial animation, body language animation, and character gaining alignment with choices sounds like the better deal.

TOR space will probably not be explorable, considering the full plate the developers have already. What we will get are action events in space while the ship is in travel. But probably not able to freely explore space. But better than not having any space action at all.

GW 1 had a decent story but it wasn't anywhere near Bioware quality. More like average video game tale. Even WoW has better stories than GW 1 had. After playing almost every major MMO in North America lol over the past 18 years I'm over standard MMO mechanics. To enjoy the game it better have a great story or addicting pvp. And even if it has addicting pvp the story still has to be above average.

Like it or not, WoW is currently the best MMO at making a variety of types of quests. Of course once the expansion has been out for a month and you've done all the new quests there's no reason to keep playing, because  A) raiding is crap  B) WoW pvp is not exciting. I'm looking forward to TOR because they will take MMO storytelling and questing to the next level and pvp could be a notch up from WoW. Not trying to be too hard on GW 2, I'll probably try it too, it will probably have awesome pvp.
