Yeah I suppose it's about as dorky as your halfling fishing in LOtR eh?
I find it humorous that you are even posting in a thread asking what other good space mmos are out there, ragging on ppl that suggest Eve, as if you are the authority on anything but purple wizards and halflings in a pve love fest.

Nice addition to your post after the fact, but I'll bite...

Oh man the Elitest EVE people are at it again. "If you don't like EVE your just to dumb to play the game, understand or know what you like" is their motto.
Anyway best space game ever made and waaay before it's time is SWG. It was mismanaged severely by SOE but even in it's current incarnation it's not that bad. At least you'll be able to see your avatar, fight on the ground, with light sabers, and laser rifles, and Force Powers, as well as buy a house stock it and decorate it. In addition jumping into space in your fully upgradable spaceship (all Star Wars crafts are represented) with player crafted upgrades .... well u get the point I could go on ... and on... and on. Also you won't HAVE to join a guild to have any fun. And thats after SOE has changed the game from what some say was a better model.
SWG for the win, just my opinion. Try them both/all ... I think there are free trials.

Hehe. Make sure you tell Twinkle-tits the Elf that you need more wood for your magic arrows
See, I can bash your game too. Have fun in your safe little padded amusement park.
I'm looking for a better space game then STO where the planets are better and and the space exploration is there. I have lifetime to STO but I dont think im going to stay because of the undeveloped planets and space. I'm sure others have left and have found a game like this, please tell me where I can find a game like this.
There isnt a better space game, (and Im not saying sto is the best) part of the whole friggin dissapointment was that we might actually get a space game worth playing for a while. This isnt it. There are alternatives out there but they arent much better than this pos. Its either eve or trek. suck or more suck.
EVE for awesome fleet battles. EVE also has great exploration. I really liked this part of EVE and felt like treasure hunting. Especially if you explore in low sec for your corporation.
Or SWG if you prefer dogfight kind of battles. Space is actually a better part of SWG. Ground combat isnt

To say something like that is just stupid but the fact is that there are few well made games with space exploration. Eve is the only one I can think off.
Far from all people like Eve or it would be larger than Wow and that is just a matter of taste. liking or hating it doesn't make you any smarter or dumber than anyone, we just all like different kinds of games.
I do however think most people would think Eve is a better game in general than STO, that might not be fair since Eve is 7 years old an STO 6 months or something but if I was OP I would give it a free trial to see if I like it or not.
As for SWG it has it good points but I am not found of the direction it have taken. It is still worth a free trial too of corse, any game is and it is also better than STO.

actually, earth and beyond is back up and running (free to play) , and even though its 10 years old and still stress testing the new version, imho its a much better game than sto.as they are rebuilding the server (its really an alpha at this point) there are about as many bugs as sto sufered from at launch, but overall its a much better game, of course eve is about the best on the market atm, if you can handle the pvp. personally o got bored of having really nothing to do but pvp, and have left eve for teh time being.

hu-what? I never got a chance to play it and I'd love to give it a whirl if it's F2P - but is it ran by EA or is it some emu project on private servers? I don't trust either, but would lean towards EA for security reasons.

There was too much of a learning curve to EVE. I can see how the fun would be there. But you need a PHD just to get the ship moving forward.
It took me one hour to figure the game out because of the tutorial. It then took me a day to find a corp which I was a part of for over half a year, but yes the game sure is hard to figure out...

Only because it has sh*t instructions. EVE isn't complex, it just leaves it mostly down to the player to figure out.

Heh, ya when I hear that old chestnut about EvE being "complex" I sure have to chuckle.
Anyway, unfortunately Cryptic was able to pump their terrible game out very fast, and so beat a couple of other promising space based games into the market. So we just have to wait for a bit.
It won't be long though. My bet is on Jumpgate Evolution since I think they're going to be abe to deliver fun space based content done in a proper FvFvF environment.
Originally posted by AzurePrower Not mouthing off. Just showing the pretty painted portrait for what it really is. All the EVE fan boys and girls always seem to get on the defensive when their favourite MMO is revealed to be less than godly from another perspective.
They get defensive when people say it's the worst game ever, or when people demand that EVE be exactly like WoW, only in space (which is what people got with STO, actually, and see how that worked out?).
Of course, most people here can't remember anything from before 2004 as far as games go anyway. I doubt more than 1% of posters here even knows about games like Masters of Orion, Pax Imperia, Reunion/Imperium Galactica or Elite, the games EVE is loosely based on.
EVE has it's faults, obviously, but at least some of them are subjective. The slow pace many people find boring others find refreshing. As it's been said before, it's not a game for people with ADD.

yeah funny how STO is based on a series with the motto "seek out new life and civilizations, boldly go where no one has gone before", yet there really is nothing to explore it is all kill this kill that. LoL I'm another lifer that recently bailed.
Sadly aside from Eve there isn't much out there. Eve is pretty but I never liked the interface. I also don't like games that you play while afk. What's the point? There was an old game called Freelancer that was good if you can find it but there isn't much multiplayer, plus it was a single player game so it is linear. SWG is ok but kinda getting long in the tooth.
Any companies listening here??? The market is ripe for a great space game!!! There are a lot of us that are tired of the same old elves, orcs, wizards, warriors, etc.!!

I've seen it.
What do that call that genre?
Dork-n-Roll?
Geek Hop?

I'm such a bad LOTRO player...I'm pretty sure I don't even have a fishing pole.

And you too. Have fun playing with your spreadsheets and pretending that buying Plex and selling it on the market ISN'T an RMT cash shop.

Eleanor Rigby.
Black prophecy or jumpgate, not sure yet.
I agree, hopefully the cash shop equivalent won't over shadow the in-game items (if there is a cash shop like shop in game).
