Mourning off of MMORPG site?

Anyone in favor of the removal of the boards here ever considered that the negative posts here are a result of the absolutely extreme zero-tolerance politics on the official Mourning boards? The MMORPG.com moderators, in my opinion, have done a good job at clearing the boards of useless, unargumented 'flame'fests, and I really don't think they should remove every form of critisism and negativism in a heartbeat.

Same as Bilas I heard of Mourning on this very site, I looked into it, wasn't exactly hyped but still thought it would make a good game. The official forums however, were a huge dissapointment. Those guys could really use some people-skills.

Of course some of you will now say that PR isn't all we should talk about around here. I agree to some extent, but I don't think their lack of social skills only applies to PR.

To top this all, the removal of the Mourning boards (removed by request or removed due to disagreement with the Mourning staff - that really doesn't matter when looking at the result) won't do the game any good. Just look at how many people have been looking (and posting) in this thread, and next to that, nobody can be stopped if they want to post about the game in the Pub around here or any other (appropriate) board for that matter.

Any respectable business men are not going to allow their company name and product to be dragged through the mud by little teenage brats with nothing better to do but make up lies and than have the place where its being posted do NOTHING about it.

Actually, while every community seems to have it's fair share of "teenage brats", the MMORPG.com community actually has posts which address issues from all sides. I find that the community here has such varied views on so many topics, when something is brought up for discussion, it's looked at from all angles. I'm not really sure what boards you are reading.

Oh, well this explains alot. The IGN PC Community has to be the largest group of kiddies on the internet. I've posted several posts on the PC boards over there only to get useless and condescending replies. I have a friend who lives near me who is a moderator on IGN and we've discussed this several times and even HE has said that the IGN PC board community has gone down hill and is over run by kiddies.

    Good luck on that.

If you are referring to the fact that they allowed you to get an account, then this is the only point I must agree on you with. Good luck in the IGN Playground.

Second, there were so many scam posts in the Mourning forum here that i don't think the mmorpg.com moderators really did their job properly. If you go to the trouble to have moderators why not police posts amounting to libel??
Finally, we have all lost sight of the actual game. After all, that's why we use mmorpg.com isn't it? To discuss mmorpgs. I find it sad that many members here are  more concerned with the PR (or lack thereof) from the Mourning team rather than the pros and cons of the game itself.
I mean a new skill-based PvP game should definitely be a talking point- its unfortunate that it can't be talked about here.

1st - Thats just pure speculation on your part.  I know that over at the WoW bliz site there is a lot of negativity but they at least let people tell there concerns and ask critical questions.  I am sure they have no prob with these boards.  As for SOE I am not sure so I won't make blanket statements like you.

2nd - MMORPG IMO does a great job with moderating these boards.  They have many games to mod but they do a good job.  Mourning site has 1 game and they remove peoples post for the smallest reasons.  I don't think IMO they care too much for the new customers.  They are fine with the group they have.

3rd - Well I was so hyped to hear about Mourning here and wouldn't have known about them if it wasn't for this site.  I went over there and found the devs and mods to be really horrible.  I asked about a few concerns and was almost banned and called "Childish, Jerk, ect) by the devs no less.  That is what put me off to the game, but like I said I don't think they care about me or the others that have concerns or even questions.

Well I am hoping for D&L to make it!  They have a good site and a good base.

    Cheers

    Bilas

    1. Not speculation. That's pure business fact on my part. Huge gaming companies have alot of influence. Seems unfair to me that ppl treat Mourning the way they do because they are a small team with the devs based in Romania.

    2. Don't really want to argue about how good the mmorpg.com mods are. Just i think in the case of Mourning they should definitely have removed the "scam" posts. Those posts weren't based on any facts, were nonsensical and the work of a stupid minority. A quick look at the Mourning site is enough to prove it aint a scam.

    3. Your point is fair enough. Personally i don't really care about the devs attitude (or lack of PR skills) if the game is very good.

Ditto - also hoping that DnL makes it without too many mishaps.image

Although didn't those same "Mourning scam" posters also put a few scam posts on the DnL forum a while back image? I think the mods should certainly look at thee kind of posts more closely regardless of the game.

screw mourning mmorpg.com did the right thing.......probably be a crappy game anyway....no info...the pre-order was out before any info on the game was released (i mean does anyone know anything about this game)  i pitty the folks who preorder this game on the screenshots alone.  it was just a bad way of handling things!!!!!!! kudos to mmorpg!!!!

That's just the thing, though--with such shoddy PR skills, what's to guarantee the live game will be any better? Going by their current track record, they could be just as ruthless and unforgiving to their players in-game as well. If they aren't willing to listen to criticism now, they won't be listening to it at lauch, either.

It wouldn't surprise me to see them cancelling subscriptions to the game for the same reasons they ban people from their forums now.

    Just my thoughts.

For the last time regarding the internet/forums in general- there is no such thing as libel. Yes if your the New York Post or a big company, you are responsable for what you said(normally because your trying to put another business out). However a user posting one or two posts about the mourning scam is nothing you can prosucute. There has been a case involving this- "internet libel" and they threw out the case. Mourning devs believe that "slander" is anything that is free speech or critizing of the game. In Romanian that could be true, but this is the US and there laws dont hold up here. Im not sure if you understand the seriousness of trying to get a users details without court order. All you are doing is threating people with baseless lawsuits. Im sure that mmorpg.com recieved emails from self-rightous dave very similar like the ones somethingawful.com got.

Man, if I wasn't so tired from all the work caused due to end of financial year (working in Contracts & Procurement and/or Finance is late night city now - sucks to be me), I would be doubled up with laughter. This has to be the BEST thread I've ever read!

Any self-respecting MMOG developer MUST read this thread for how NOT to promote a game. Did the developers ever wonder why people thought that their game was a scam, or why there was so much negative comments? Also, those defending the developers actions, have you ever read the SWG forum on MMORPG.com? Believe me, SoE, Blizzard et al get PLENTY of criticism and one line 'Wow, this game sux' comments. Yet you don't see them asking for their products to be removed. Let's compare apples and apples - CCP have never asked for EVE: Online to be removed and like the Mourning devs, they are a small company compared to the big boys.

I've never taken an interest in Mourning, aside from occasionally reading the comments about the devs knee-jerk reactions. But this [action] takes the Gold Medal for throwing a hissy fit.

    <sarcastic, slow-clap>

The third longest suicide note in history (the Labour party's manifesto in 1983 in the UK was the second longerst). I would not touch Mourning (or any other MMOG produced by this team) with a barge-pole. As everyone else has commented, this is control freakery notched up several lattes. Man, drink some decaffeinated shit but whatever you do, do NOT gag the gaming community at large from discussing your product except in offically sanctioned, glowing terms.

Forget whatever happens now, but I cannot shake the impression of snake-oil.

If the game is ever released, just imagine how they are going to moderate ingame!

    Riotgirl

P.s. This is a moment of gaming history that will go down in lore. Be glad to be a part of it!

I was pondering that very sentiment earlier today. Imagine the people that are afraid to speak in general chat cause someone else, a fellow gamer, might report them for a negative comment and have them banned. We've all shouted "This game sucks" when you die or some other silly little thing happens. Most poeple don't feel the need to shout it in the general chat channels but it happens. Imagine if that was a bannable offense! Everyone playing is going to be self conscious about what they say, because *gasp* a negative comment is a ban for you! Scary things indeed.

I really feel for the people who are looking forward to the game. It may be a great game for some people out there, but having to obey their rules and be aware that your opinion, if in any way negative, is going to get you in trouble. This kind of moderation is immature and bordering on eery. Criticism is a big thing they're going to have to deal with - they are trying to appeal to a large market and, of course, not everyone is going to think their game is the end-all be-all of MMO's. What are they going to do when gaming sites start giving poor reviews - ask them to remove their game from their site?
