Have to agree with the OP. There is nonthing about this game that looks good at all. It is totally being sold on the names of Bioware and Star Wars.
Star Wars= Awesome IP with TONS of potential.
Bioware=Badass dev that has NEVER put out a bad game. Ever.
Sounds like a pretty safe bet.
Everything you just said means nonthing. Every IP is awesome with tons of potential in somebodys eyes and Bioware being a badass dev that has never put out a bad game is your opinion. Believe it or not but not everybody thinks they way you do.

Not everybody has to think they way I do.
There are millions of people who have never been let down by bioware. That's all it takes.
Seeing newer and newer gameplay footage, this game just looks worse and worse lol. It all looks really slow and out of place, like KOTOR had a really bad combat system, but it looks slow like that. Man that combat would be so bad for PVP, like even worse than EQ2 or some shit. Every time I see a video, they are standing still in one place and it just looks really slow and animates badly. On top of that you have like the real poor character models and clothes look like a texture painted on their body. Their frigging emo plastic hair is enough to put me off but their bodies look outta proportion. Why is it no matter how much they try to change the character model looks, they all look related but one is bald or one is fat and one has emo plastic hair? Everything about it looks so bad, besides the environments, I bet they'll screw them up with instances and zoning though lol.
Just can't get excited for it. It is really annoying like a Halo game that everyone hypes, I play it and just think "what is so good about this?". Especially seeing as the MMO genre hasn't had anything good since 2004.
If this game were to be released next week or next month then the doom and gloom that is all over this site toward this game would be justified. Seeing as it is not in beta yet... remember it's UNDER DEVELOPMENT, not ready for release for cryin out loud.
Some are going to love it, some will hate it, and many will play it just because. If you don't like it fine, don't play it, save your hard earned cash, god knows it's harder to come by for many these days.

You forgot one.
Bioware= Has never put out an mmo before.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
I lost interest when i learned that there wasnt gonna be and space flight/combat like there was in SWG. It seems like now it will just be another click to highlight enemy and rollface on hotkeys mmo
"Don't mistake a fun game for a good game... Checkers is fun to play but its not exactly the highest point of gaming design... and definatly not worth $60 plus $15 a month"
The combat does seem kind of lackluster, and unbefitting the excitement of Star Wars. But it'll be worth trying out.
Important facts: 1. Free to Play games are poorly made. 2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals. 3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE. 4. Community is more important than you think.
I am so very happy they aren't going with FPS style combat. I'm glad this is going to be a RPG that stresses character development and skill, not twichiness and ping rates.
To be honest, it seems to me that the majority of people who post or lurk on this site, generally don't like casual oriented games, so it baffles me why you guys follow this one, let alone constantly find reasons to bash it. We get it already, you're badass hardcores who want twich combat, free for all PvP with full loot and tools to make ganking even easier with all of the trappings of the dreaded sandbox. Fine, please lurk the games that fit or at least come close to that description and stop irritating people who aren't interested in that crap and who certainly don't want hear about it in their casual game topics.
I think you assume too much friend. It's not that I need the twitch style fps combat for an mmo. I just figured if I'm going to be weilding a light saber, i'd prefer to have the fluid movement from JK-2. The lightsaber combat in that game is phenomenal. And sorry but yes.. call me a snob, or a 'hardcore' gamer.. but technology has come to far to have the combat be 2 people standing still next to eachother attacking ffvii style. There should be free fluid movement and some sort of actual skill required to play the game. Not saying there won't be in this game. Just from the videos I have seen so far were less than impressive.

I know there are a lot of space combat coming out soon.
But dam I would be all over an x-wing / tie fighter mmo

What about one that featured no ground-play?
It took SWG a long time to implement it because that side of the game could salvage *absolutely nothing* from the existing code and assets. Chances are any game with really good space combat is going to lack the ground stuff at first, or have it be completely mediocre.

I understand what you are saying about the art style. A lot of people are not fans, but it will help it run better on the average system. As far as the combat, I don't have any complaints. I expect amazing combat on console games, but with an MMO I don't really care what it looks like. Hell my favorite MMO of all time was Ultima Online and the combat in that game looked boring and dry. There are 100 other factors that I look for first in an MMO before the way the combat looks (assuming that the combat is reasonable).
In Ultima Online there was more to do than just combat. Most if not all of these new MMOs are basicly just about combat. There is nothing else to do really. In my opinnion the combat doesn't look that bad. It's basic RPG style. I do dislike the character models however.

Try to make a more cogent argument next time (I'm really tired of seeing this lame reasoning bandied about). Blizzard had never made an MMO before WoW. You can't argue with their success.
Now, you might counter by saying Blizzard has more balance experience than Bioware. I'd agree, but I'd point out that no MMO has ever failed because of mediocre or even poor balance. People are pretty understanding about balance, so even if Bioware mucks it up, the game can do well. Good gameplay matters more, and Bioware has skill with that in spades..
The combat does seem kind of lackluster, and unbefitting the excitement of Star Wars. But it'll be worth trying out.
To be fair. A lot of MMOs have combat that doesn't look that great a year before release. IIRC, WoW was like that, for instance. There's a lot of time to polish things up.

Over time I realized that to me character animations are very important for immersion in a MMO. One of the many things why I enjoyed playing pre-CU SWG was that my Tera Kassi char had amazing combat moves. It made me look epic even in the fights that I lost. And even the best weapon dropped from the toughest boss in any MMO couldn't match this eipcness if your combat animations look like crap.
Seeing wonderful animations in DAO (male char) and ME it is dissapointing to see BioWare failing in that respect with SWTOR. WoW combat animations looked like crap even after release.
Gotta agree to the cartoonish look, had the same feeling when World of Warcraft launched
Suspect its Lucas Arts trying to make a link to the Star Wars animated movie.. some CEO sucking up to George Lucas himself
This moaning after seeing a few minutes of gameplay and not actually tried the game - fail
I smell a ganker from WoW crying cuz maybe he has to learn some skills in this game
Truth is noone knows untill TOR goes live
Gief Spacecombat, Bounty Terminals, Crafting Class and Player Vendors
Bioware is just sticking to the KOTOR art style. Good or bad we will find out next year.
I can feel your anger. This game is defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike this game down with all of your hatred, and your journey towards towards the Dark Side will be complete.
Hey OP, thanks for your constructive and detailed explanation of your dislike of the combat system. I'm sure BioWare will give you a medal for "Junior Developer." Do it again sometime!
Yep, Bioware are masters of story making! ME1=KOTOR1, looking for beacons or /coughstarmaps. ME2=Dragon Age, go around collecting buddies (races in dragon ages case), then banding together for some final fight. They rehash the same formula for everything but jade empire and kotor 2. Don't BS yourself.

I grew up with the whole original Star Wars craze myself and never got into it,Im not a fan of Star Wars whatsoever.
Though I probably will try this game because I AM a fan of Bioware,NeverWinter Nights,Dragon Age,Mass Effect..I loved them all.
Which is a first for me,wanting to try a game not because of the game itself, but becuase of the company behind it.

You are right ... it does look crap ... but you know what .... i'm still playing PreCu SWG and am having a blast.
In the end it's only a small portion of the full package ... it's the package that makes the game fun or not

To be a star wars game you really need to have FPS combat or it is just not going to be star wars.
To be a star wars game you really need to have space flight and FPS space combat otherwise ... you guessed it - it is not star wars.
This game will be utter fail if you do not have to actually aim your shots / swings.
Have a look at THIS VIDEO, the combat doesn't look that bad to me, looks a lot better than some titles out there.

Kotor art style? Kotor is 7 years old. That wasn't an art style but a graphical limitation of the time.
