AE has a playerbase probably more dedicated than that of UO or Everquest players, hence their reviews. The person who posted on the AE forums to vote wasn't a dev he was a player. I voted a 10 simply because I want to attract players to the game, but here are my personal views on the game I will use the mmorpg.com review system:
Graphics 7: The graphics are smooth, but some could be improved and some can be choppy.
Sound 8: The music is great, player/monster sounds are good bar a few, and spell sounds are definitely the coolest of them all
Role Playing 3: There used to be a great number of roleplaying in the community, but it has since died out.
Value 7: $8.75 a month, you get what you expect
Fun 7: keeps me from getting bored
Community 10: Simply one of the greatest communities I've seen in an mmorpg.
Performance / Lag 10: Servers might be rebooted once every month at most. I barely ever get lag.
Customer Service 9: You usually get same day response with customer service. They're understand, but I disagree with some of their polices so they lose a point :P
Here are my views on the pros and cons on gameplay:
Pro's - PVP system is probably the best aspect of the game - Community is excellent - Outstanding customer support - Insane Dev/player communication. Devs are usually posting on the forums on a daily basis and acknowledging suggestions by players.
Con's - Updates aren't that constant, but however they come in bulk. Updates are usually massive - Tedious grind (this may be a pro to some, since a few like large grinds) - Retarded AI (IWG recently revealed some info on the new AI and it looks really promising) - Alignment System (to me this is the most abusable aspect of the game, I don't see how it's been in so long)
Too funny. If you think this game is good its about time you upgraded your computer and played some games from more recent then 1990. You realise if you over hype a game like this it makes alot of people that might have tried it not want too. They get a predisposed notion of blithering children trying to trick ppl to come and wast their money. 9$ a month for this game is outrageous considering you can get the best new games out there for 12 or 15. Knight online is 100 times better then this game and is free and 3d even.
Yeah I am just strange that way. Call me weird but when I bought a 3d card I kinda thought it had to be only 3d games played on it. But now I see the light!! I can play old 2d games as well. now that I know this I will be throwing away all my Overdeveloped 3d games because well I just cant find any that are fun. So happy i can return to playing solitaire and euchre now.

Oh I see I should be playing 3D games from now on. What the hell were they thinking when they made "classics" like chrono-trigger or zelda. Those games are far inferior since they're 2D. How primitive.

Would you pay 9 dollars a month for them? and yes they are primitive. Dont think anyone would deny this. This goes down as the worst debate i have ever seen. 2d vs 3d hmm.
I'm just saying. Just because a game is 3D doesn't make it better than every 2D game ever made. Graphics aren't really the heart of a game. It's just an appearance.

See what I'm talking about when I said AE players being "fair"?
They rank it a 10 but in reality, they don't think it's a 10, they just hope they will attract a random newbie.
Originally posted by Xzaro They rank it a 10 but in reality, they don't think it's a 10, they just hope they will attract a random newbie.
Of course I want to attract a random newbie. The more players, the bigger the community, and the increased funds means increased updates. Which means the game will improve at an accelerated rate.
Originally posted by Xzaro Man, these guys still don't get my point here. The ranking system isn't for advertising. But then again, every game has their share of fanboys, so I'll just leave it be here.
Of course it is. However, in the past AE has received high ratings in mpogd.com and even though it's a review site, from the high ratings we received a surge of new players. It helps quite a lot.
First of all I, the creator of this thread, am not advertising. I have played several other MMORPGS, among them Ragnarok, Blade Mistress, Runescape and Priston Tale. None of those comes even close by the gaming level of Ashen Empires.
Secondly, Ashen Empires is not 2D, it is Isometric. I guess you 1337 players don't even know what that means.
Third, if you treat everybody new on this forum like you treated me (and the others that posted in favor of AE) my intensions of spreading my point of view is totally useless, because this site will be doomed to fail.
Fourth, if you don't know the game just STFU, your opinion does not have any value.
Fifth, if everybody in here acts like this boards community I wonder if AE would improve having you aboard.
Originally posted by Guussie Ashen Empires (1 of the best MMORPG's ever) has been taken over by IWG at the end of last year. A lot of players that left game are getting back in game because they hear AE is getting better than ever. Not only the game is getting better, but maybe what is as much as important the costumer support is getting better also. Soon there will be a new update (within a month probably) to make this game even better. If you like playing MMORPG's than you surely don't want to miss Ashen Empires on your list, not many games let you chose between so many skills as Ashen Empires. 1 warning though... Ashen Empires is more than just a game, it gets in your blood, within no time it's getting a part of you.
hahaha not advertising?? Take your weak insults back to your own board please as your not fooling anyone here.
Why would you give a crap in the first place if we promote our game? Scared that your well funded corporate ran mmo might lose players? Looking for an argument? People will discover if they like or dislike the game by playing it. Not by what people say.

I like the list of other MMOs you have played, because all it does is simply confirm what many others have been saying throughout this topic--that AE is just another cheap MMO designed for those who play with incredibly low-tech systems. That's not neccessarily a dig or anything, but is a pretty accurate assumption. For a criminal amount of nine dollars a month for a game this sorry looking, the only players they are going to get and keep are those that can't run anything else. That's what they're aiming for.
Also, yes I'm sure everyone knows what an Isometric game is. So it's not 2D...it's 2 1/2D. Amazing technicality you pointed out there. 5 points.
Not advertising as in, AE has to be the biggest game ever at least. Sharing my thoughts and hoping other gamers might play too. A MMORPG is a game you play together, the more players, the more fun. In other words, yes, it would benefit me if there would be more players on AE, but not to get IWG rich, not to get the game a bigger name, that is what in my opinion is advertising. No, my only interest is to share my thoughts and hope some players like me join the game. It might not show on these boards for now, which in my opinion is only because of your (the mmorpg posting communities) reaction, but I see myself as a respectfull player which biggest goal is to have fun in game among other gamers. The more players like me, the more fun AE gets.
Originally posted by Obake Why would you give a crap in the first place if we promote our game? -because you are doing it in a cheap and unfair way. This is a legitamate gaming site and having companies come in and unfairly rate their own product and shamelessly promote second rate games takes away from this community and makes the rating system unbelievable Scared that your well funded corporate ran mmo might lose players? -yes your 2d oops sorry "isometric" zelda game is going to do this I am sure Looking for an argument? -ok but try harder then 2d is better then 3d this time k? People will discover if they like or dislike the game by playing it. Not by what people say.-u said it but then why are you in here admitting you are trying to trick ppl by overating "your" game?
How come more and more players that played AE before, then started to play WoW (or similar so they have the right requirements) when TKO took over, get back to AE after a while when IWG takes over and tell us the graphics of WoW might look cool, but the game itself sucks if the game only attracts those with low requirements?
As I said in the post you are responding on, if you don't know anything about the game, you can' t judge it. Sofar everything you know about AE is what you have been told by someone who did his upmost not to like AE so he could tell us AE is just crap.
You all made a very big fool of yourself to make statements about AE that you can't back up with your own knowledge of AE. All you know about is graphics, for you better graphics = better game.
Then to think the mmorpg.com community tells us we are pathetic...
edit: directed towards darquenblade, I thought by replying to his post I would automaticly quote him (which is what I am used to when posting on 3 other forums)
I love how some of you like to dwell on the graphics quality of the game. My system is about as high end as it gets, yet after having tried some of the dazzling new super graphic games Ive come to the following conclusion: High end graphics while at times beautiful, amount to nothing more than glorified eye-candy if they lack substance in game play. Frankly Ive found that the fancy graphics have a short shelf life and bog down the interface. I enjoy AE for the reasons I listed in my first post: Great Community, great skills with no class limitations, excellent Dev/GM interaction and support and most importantly here for those of you that like to judge games by their covers and not their content: A simple and clean interface.
Anywayz just so you fanboys, mods or ceos know, on this site if you unfairly hype your game way up and the regular community sees there is almost always a backlash. Just because you hyped it way too high ppl will purposely give it all 1s just to bring down to a believable level. So in actuality you are probably doing alot more harm then good. Basically the more attention you get from this community the lower the rating you will have is how i see it so I would skulk off now if I was you

Well now, if that isnt the pot calling the kettle black I dont know what qualifies. First you accuse us of being dishonest in our rating (I havent even given one yet) secondly you turn in nearly the same breath and say that members of this illustrious community are going to make it a point to sabotage a games rating with dishonest opinion of their own without trying the game then this reflects poorly on the fine community that exists here. If this is how you treat new members of the community who are honestly coming here to express their own opinions on a game we play and enjoy then I cant say Id want you to come try AE. However for those of you that have read our opinions here on this thread and wish to keep an open mind before forming an opinion based on nothing, please feel free and welcome.
Considering the voting of some other AE players here (I didn't vote yet, but I think I will hand out 9's mostly), for some of you WoW, RYL, D&L, may have perfect graphics, I prefer the Isometric graphics of AE, when I play a game, I want to see it is a game, if I want reality I go outside.
WoW might get a 10 from you, from me it does not get more than 6 or 7 (if it was not a game it would have gotten a 9)
AE might get a 4 or 5 from you, from me it would get a 9 (if it was not a game it would have gotten a 6 or 7).
On a side note, you can't find a rate that is called a 10 in my dictionairy.
Oh btw... you know what is funny about AE? Even those that stopped playing (diversity of reasons) keep asking about the game. I still speak several people online who used to play AE years ago, but they all ask me on a monthly (some even weekly) base how things are on AE. AE definately makes online friends.
OMG I cant believe you guys even waste your breath on this game It is sooo bad. I played it and believe me the hype is bs. Nothing good about this game
I know if I was a newbie to MMORPGs, I would try AE from reading this post if:
1) You guys didn't all come at the same time and spam the hell out of this thread
2) You guys came to this site and wanted to share your game by yourself, not because someone on your forums said "post a few times so you can rank the game".
3) Honesty on the ranking system, instead of raising it to it's highest hoping to get a random newbie.
You guys still have much to learn about how to advertise on a forum, having 5 people register at the same time and post about how good the game is isn't good strategy. An average person won't go "wow, look, so many people like that game, I think I will try it out". Instead, the average person would go "why are these people spamming about how good their game is, and are giving dishonest rankings".
The average person wants to go into a thread, hoping that only 1 or 2 people actually give truly honest reviews, give a few negatives about the game (regardless of how well it is, there are negatives), and believe it or not, if an average MMORPG player sees that the person posted negatives after the horde of positives about the game, they will think they are truly honest and really want to get people to see the real game, not just all the positives. We don't want exaggerated comments and positive info about the game also, nothing like "WOW! AFTER TKO LEFT AND IWG CAME TEH GAME WAS TEHz AWESOME!".
Whether you take this as advice or just another flame, is up to you, I could care less anymore
