EVE Online: Hulkageddon III: Summer of Gank Begins

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

EVE Online miners beware: An intrepid group of players has declared that Hulkageddon III: Summer of Gank has officially begun. Open war has been declared in all sectors of space with mining vessels as the main object of the summer gank fest. Real life prizes are being offered for those who bring in the most ISK, EVE's in-game currency. Organizers are particularly keen to beat last years 278 billion ISK.

Hulkageddon is a semi-regular event which takes place in the MMORPG game EVE-online. During the event contestants vie with each other to see who can destroy the most mining vessels within a given timespan. This is the 3rd edition of the event, which hopes to top the previous one, that ended with the destruction of over 1,200 mining vessels. DID YOU KILL YOUR HULK TODAY?

Find out more at the official Hulkageddon III: Summer of Gank site and be careful in space this weekend.

In EVE, it's not "HULK SMASH!", it's "HULK GET SMASHED!"

    Weeeeee.

Cool, I should reactivate my miner so that I can gank him with my fighter! :)

Seriously, did you miss the the undock button? There's tons of things to do.  Hulkageddon looks like fun, too. Sadly I just started and therefore most likely won't be able to participate :(

You don't even need imagination or even try to create your own content, it's all there for you. People created what the developers had in mind years ago, before the game was even out of beta. Your responsibility is to look for it. If you don't try to find out what EVE has to offer, then that's your own fault. Blaming a game for lack of content, when it probably has more content than any other commercial game on the market, is just plain stupid.

Back on topic. I hate Hulkageddon. It's such a waste of time. I didn't have any miners in 1, I didn't lose any ships in 2 (though some tried and failed miserably), and I'm not even going to log on them in 3. My time is up on both the mining accounts anyway, so I'll just let them expire.

Though, if you can mine during Hulkageddon, you can make a killing off high sec minerals. I think last year (or whenever the last one was), I made a good 300mil over my normal profits. Still not worth the heartache and extra steps you have to take to keep your miners safe during the event. :-/

Don't feel down besser, fit a rifter and find a macro miner Good huntin to ya.

    @stratford

Ganking is a art stratford and the art of ganking gameplay spans a wide range games. Lets pretend my ship is really a "troll" and my ship type is really a "Rouge". Instead of 125mm autocannons I have 2 daggers and instead of being in a star system I am in a town called goldshire. In this pretend land the gangage begins as soon as you walk past me.

Both true. What is your point?

Why suffer the loss for their enjoyment? Simply park up your mining ship and grab your PVE/PVP ship.

I'd have thought that the whole concept of Hulkageddon more an EvE themepark idea from the boys at CCP than sandbox since it isn't player generated content. Anyway, whatever reads like a space take on professional wrestling, and I guess that might make interesting and fun PvP too.

That they're both true, or both false. I think judging an entire player base because of game preferences is stretching it. I play EVE as well as glowing shoulder pad games, and I find bottom dwellers along with outstanding individuals in both genres.

i am not a miner, nor do i have plans for being one. i pvp quite often but most of the time i pewpew ships that actually pewpew back... with this hulkageddon thing i fail to see the logic in it? am i missing something?

the way i see it, the more miners we kill, the less minerals there are,

according to the offer and demand law: same demand less offer = increase in prices

mineral prices should go up, and if mineral prices go up, then so does the stuff you build with minerals, also known as your ship and its fittings

so this hulkageddon is a good way to make the ships you have to buy more expensive?

i would think you would try anything to get the market to lower the price of the ships you will be losing during the next war dec some low sec pirate corp will put on your corp no?

So, when do the miners, whose work keeps the EVE economy running, get to pay back the testosterone-riddled infants by going on a month-long work-stoppage, causing prices for raw materials to skyrocket?  That would be the best way to kick the gankers in the balls.  I don't appreciate encouraging former playground bullies who are now too old to beat up on the weaker kids.  This is the violence outlet that keeps them from going on a killing spree in the cafeteria.

man i love EVE. Time to melt a miner!

    Playing: PO, EVE
    Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO

You do realize that the whole thing is a ploy by a cabal of miner alts to drive up the prices, no?  The willy nilly mindless run of going pew pew, pew pew, yay me!  Damn, why is everything so expensive now?  Oh wait, another miner!  Pew pew, pew pew, yay me!  WTF?  Why is everything so expensive?  Over and over.

Personally, I find mining to be so boring - that fragging them is probably doing them a favor...

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

I did my fair share of mining during the first 4 months of my Eve life.  Not much fun but paid for my skill books and ships.  This whole hulkageddon is just another meaningless high sec piratebear's stupid excuses to destroy other players' game experience.  Mineral price/hulk price might go up in short period but nothing will change.  There are enough mineral supply from drone region to keep ship price stable.   Besides, how many hulks could they kill realisticaly?  In thousands everyday? lol

Not the best, but always the first.

CCP is not involved in this in any way. The idea, the execution, the targets, everything is players only.

Also if you really think this sounds like pro-wrestling in space you really need to read the article again. Hulk in Hulkageddon does not come from The Amazing Hulk but from the name of an type of industrial ships in the game which is the main target for the event.

Yet another reason not to play EVE's PvP gank fest - this game will never be anything but niche until they introduce a PvE shard.

DEFINITION OF REALITY: Graphics ok, Sound ok, Gold drops need more work...

I specifically mine all month just for this event....mineral prices skyrocket (well, skyrocket as much as a mineral price can :P ). Got my Salvager all prepped and ready to get some phat lewts too

Printing that out, framing it and putting it on my desk on Monday. Hilarious!
