Wow, its amazing how ignorant and crazy GW2 fanboys are towards SW:TOR. Saying so many things about it that they can't back up.
SW:TOR mainly single player? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! obviously you fanboys haven't done your research and are just desperately defending GW2 because you all feel threatened by ToR.
I've been watching both games for along time now, and prefer SWTOR by far. I'm no SW fan either.

Warzones for mass pvp
And most of all, Bioware knows how to NOT fuck up *cough**cough* again*
I'm no SWTOR or Bioware fanboy, for the longest I've supported GW2 over SWTOR but as of lately, I definitely see GW2 get annhilated in quality, players, story, pvp.. well pretty much everything other then an event system. then again, they could have that also. this game is rediculously huge in quality and content already and this game is still far away.

I'm no SWTOR or Bioware fanboy(Seems like it, 17 points to defend SWTOR against GW. GOODLUCK GUILDWARS 2 LOL!
lol, what a bad troll
And to be more contructive: First of all it's stupid to compare the two games to begin with. They both attract different types of gamers because TOR and GW2 are two diff MMO types:
Fantasy and Sci-Fi.
The question isn't which is/will be better, but which do you prefer?
Sci-Fi? or Fantasy? And if you prefer both then it should pretty much be a no-brainer, get both!
Wow, its amazing how ignorant and crazy GW2 fanboys LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! obviously you fanboys

Hey, thanks for posting some g8 info on SWTOR. Those are good comments. Can you post more on what the pvp is going to be in SWTOR, as well?
Secondly, you mention "fanboi" a lot, it's obviously on your mind, check the pattern above! Thanks overall really good info and SWTOR will be a rocking game.

GOODLUCK GUILDWARS 2 LOL!
Half of it is bias and personal beliefs and large section is purely trying to downgrade other mmo's.
This is a feature list of COLD HARD FACTS.
Guild wars 2 has:
World changing Dynamic events system
Personal story where you can choose a very detailed character background AS WELL AS your choice in the story affecting it's outcome
Personal housing block that you can customise and fill with your achievements
WvW pvp with 3 factions heavily influenced by RTS games as in resource gathering to upgrade walls equipement etc.
Massive amounts of underwater content enough to justify purely underwater pets
Competitive Esport style pvp with players completing on a completely even ground
Massive amounts of character customization you can wear almost anything an NPC wears and each armour piece can be dyed in 3 different places.
Guild chat accessible from browser without having to login into the game
Marketplace (auction) available from browser also.
30 fully fleshed out mini games plus juke boxes in most towns.
Cross class combo's
Borderland's style death penalty system.
Visceral proactive style combat with a lot emphasis on positioning e.g emphasis on proactive support rather than pushing red bars up, skill animations show exactly what a skill is doing and attacking characters from different positions affects the the amount of damage done etc.
Arena Net won't announce something when unless it's actually working in game
Wow, its amazing how ignorant and crazy GW2 fanboys are towards SW:TOR. Saying so many things about it that they can't back up.

so many positives to bioware
Ok. I think both will be great but let me make some adjustments here
Bioware has never made a terrible game. Neither has ANet, the developer of GW2
They have a huge budget
13+ Worlds that developers have said to be huge in size & exploration
Extremely Dedicated Team with extremely talented staff. Same applies to ANet, they have the best graphic designers in the market, and their core team consists of people who have worked on Blizzard's best games.
Not Connected to A Korean Publisher. But Bioware IS connected to EA, a company that doesn't have that good a reputation, on the same level as a Activision.
Leader in RPG Games
Bioware has literally addressed almost every major concern about End Game, Too much storytelling not enough multiplayer, mass pvp, etc. Eh? Storytelling ok, but mass pvp and end game they still need to release information about.
Bioware won't announce or say something unless it is certain to happen.*cough ncsoft cough* Nope. Not NCsoft, that's just the publisher, but ArenaNet => and those people have stated very clearly in interviews that they only talk about stuff when it's workable and made it into the game.
Space Combat => GW2 has underwater exploration and sea areas, in fact everywhere where there's sea or water, it can be explored. It's so much integrated into the game that rangers can even have sharks as pets.
Stated Numerous times that the multiplayer aspect is most important, the only MINOR single player part is your CLASS/PERSONAL STORY. And you're still able to do it with friends/guilds.
Not your average Burnt out Fantasy Catagory MMO
Brings TONS of new ideas, concepts to the MMO Table. => same applies to GW2, even more so
Your own personal customizable starships => GW2 gives you your own personal town district as player housing
Confirmed that Character Customization for Gear and Character is Extremely important to Bioware, has thousands of different pieces of gear... no more recolored items for the most part (WoW / Aion / Almost every MMO)(Comicon Video)
The Most Complex MMO ever made => I'd say that GW2's dynamic event system, team combos dynamics, GW2's skill system in combination with environment usage and the world vs world pvp are altogether pretty complex too.
Warzones for mass pvp => GW2 offers world vs world pvp with castles, mines, and villages to conquer and defend
And most of all, Bioware knows how to NOT fuck up *cough**cough* again* Wrong. We're not talking about NCSoft but ANet, and they know how to NOT fuck up too.
GW had some of the best team pvp and skill system around in MMO's, and it looks like GW2 will do no less. Also the mass pvp as for now sounds better from GW2 than we know right now from SW TOR, the world vs world pvp and hot joinable arena combat definitely sound intriguing.
GOODLUCK GUILDWARS 2 LOL! GL to both games, I certainly intend to play them both
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Guild Wars 2 is way off my radar and thats because they botched on the story for the first game.
You begin by saving your remaining countrymen from the bloodthirsty Charr and then *wham* story-change now you have to fight agains some lich king and plus that first the princes fiancee got killed by the Charr then the prince himself got killed by some xenophobic dwarves.
No thanks, I stopped playing the game somewhere in the jungles of Kryta.
Edit: spelling
All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.
I am sure most people will play both, but damn it why must we fight?
It's all the OPs fault.
Neither has ANet, the developer of GW2 Neither has ANet, the developer of GW2
Thats because all they have made was GW lol not much room to screw up.
Wrong. We're not talking about NCSoft but ANet, and they know how to NOT fuck up too. Read above.
same applies to GW2, even more so. Other then the whole monsters attack town thing no not really.
GW2 offers world vs world pvp with castles, mines, and villages to conquer and defend So does darkfall
Most MMOs future some sort of open world PvP so what GW 2 is doing is nothing new at all. As a matter o fact I personally liked EQ 2's PvP better then
Wrong. We're not talking about NCSoft but ANet, and they know how to NOT fuck up too. So a gaming company with one AAA title= a gaming company with about four?
The original guild wars was a meh game or else there would be a whole lot more people playing today. I honestly see the same thing happening to GW 2.
Wrong. We're not talking about NCSoft but ANet, and they know how to NOT fuck up too. So a gaming company with one AAA title= a gaming company with about four?
Just like to talk about this one point. Regardless of how you look at it that's a massive advantage. That 1 AAA title turns out to give more experienece in regards to producing an mmo than all of Biowares.
The gw2 engine is simply a massive improved version of gw1 engine. That means they didn't have to waste a bunch of time producing an the game engine from scratch like bioware did and that obviously took a fairly long time. They can also look back at they're own past mistakes throughout the entire lifetime of gw1 and learn from them as they craft gw2. That cuts out a massive amount developement time and help them avoid possible future mistakes.

Bioware is an RPG gaming company that is developing an mmoRPG. All Bioware has to is add the MMO part to the game and that in its own right is not very hard, just look at well, GW 1 which is not much more then an glorified Co-Op game.
In all honesty all SWTOR has to do is be a massive improvement of WoW and people will come, and quite frankly I would be happy with that.
GW 2 on the other hand still has to convince me that its worth the $60, and not just GW 1 with dynamic events because that does not interest me at the very least and end game PvP is fun for about a week.
Bioware also can look back on Mythics mistakes and every failed MMO before it.

I think you've got it completely wrong gw2 doesn't haven't convince people it's worth $60 in fact it's challenging why mmo's need a subscription in the first place. Gw1 was worth a heck of a lot more than $60 price tag consider the amount of content it gave and the features it had. I have absolutely no idea where you got that notion from. The gw franchise has always been value for the amount it cost......

You people do realize that most of the devs that BW hired have worked on other MMO's? So what is the difference with experience, one company knows how to make good games, the other doesn't.

Yes they have worked on Vanguard and Warhammer Online.
Add that to the genius minds behind games like DAoC(mythik) ,Baldurs Gate, Mass Effect, KOTOR, and other games. You have a fully capable team to build an MMO with.
Warhammer is ok if the graphics weren't so terrible and everything didn't seem so glitchy. It has improved alot since launch. Anyways, I laugh at people who try to say "Biowares First MMO" what a fucking joke, if you can make one game you can clearly make the other, and with all the people they hired they have all the experience they need going back for the last 10-20 years.
I picked TOR. main reason for the sci-fi setting. Guild Wars 2 sounds and looks awesome too, but it would appeal to me more if it was a sci-fi game instead of fantasy.

Look at it this way a game built from scratch vs a game that improves on an already made engine with rpobelems from that specific game. It's like the difference between your personal GP and some random good doctor. Sure they're both good doctors but that random doctor requires a heck of a lot of information about you personally and experience you you first hand in order to provide the same level of service as someone whose been your gp for years providing that they're have the same level of understanding of medicine.

-They are an SP RPG company and MMO's are very different. There is no "adding" the MMO part there are different rules and mechanics that go into an MMO which are different from SP games. And they are failing at it miserably because they cant think outside of their same old tired formula theyve been using in their SP games for around 10 years. They may have veteran MMO dev's but its obvious SP devs are the ones calling the shots.
-TOR is a slight improvement to WoW, at best. And thats mainly because Blizzard has hit a roadblock and have pretty much gone stale.
-Wierd, TOR has yet to convince me its worth the monthly fee instead of KotOR 3 with a glorified Co-op game. Its probably worth the $50 but so was KotOR. True, GW1 was just as much a glorified co-op game that TOR is turning into, and for all I know GW2 will be the same, but it was F2P. So why should I bother paying a monthly fee for TOR? Other than space ships and lasers, what does TOR offer that GW2 doesnt ... for free?
-Bioware is just making a whole list of their own mistakes rather than avoiding ones from the past. Instead of improving things and adding to the genre they decide to arrogantly remove many of the good features and have the audacity to tell us "dont worry, you'll like it." Well no ... if I was a Sith Warrior I would use a double bladed lightsaber, I dont give a shit if Vader never crafted anything I DO regardless of your flawed visions of "heroic", and I sure as hell do not enjoy gettting holed into fighting like a f*&$@^$ pet class no matter what class I picked! Given the current circumstances, its a real shame we got stuck with them making the one AAA Star Wars MMO we'll probably see for the next 5-10+ years.
Wrong. We're not talking about NCSoft but ANet, and they know how to NOT fuck up too. So a gaming company with one AAA title= a gaming company with about four?

So the Hero Engine wouldn't actually count as an "already made engine" would it? Thats the exact engine BioWare is using, and its a very versatile engine. Aside from that, this isn't choosing a doctor, people don't choose new doctors because they are "bored" of their old ones, or a newer version of your doctor has come out.

This is a feature list of COLD HARD FACTS.
Guild wars 2 has:
World changing Dynamic events system Dynamic is just a buzzword. They said their events system will be cyclical, and repetitious in a simple pass/fail process. Aside from that SWTOR will also have world changing group quests as well as actual World Control points for factions to hold.
Personal story where you can choose a very detailed character background AS WELL AS your choice in the story affecting it's outcome. SWTOR will have this in every aspect of the personal story. You base your entire alignment off of the choices you make and the actions you do, which actually effects the skills you learn.
Personal housing block that you can customise and fill with your achievements SWTOR will have a fully customizable ship that will also be your player housing AND your primary mode of transport.
WvW pvp with 3 factions heavily influenced by RTS games as in resource gathering to upgrade walls equipement etc. This is nothing new, though does this actually happen in the open world? From what it sounds like, all PvP happens, in instanced areas. FE has a very similar system in place currently, not based on 3 factions, but on 6. TOR will have Open World control point based PvP which will affect and influence the world the battles take place on.
Massive amounts of underwater content enough to justify purely underwater pets TOR will have space battles and space content, enough to justify your very own starship.
Competitive Esport style pvp with players completing on a completely even ground. TOR will also have instanced Queue type of PvP where players will be matched fairly and be on completely even ground.
Massive amounts of character customization you can wear almost anything an NPC wears and each armour piece can be dyed in 3 different places. The same could be said for TOR, though no idea whether using Dye will be an option, but with the progressive armor system there will be plenty of armor choices to mix and match for each class.
Guild chat accessible from browser without having to login into the game. No telling if TOR would have this, but not really a necessity.
Marketplace (auction) available from browser also. Also not really something that is new, innovative, or game making or breaking
30 fully fleshed out mini games plus juke boxes in most towns. No telling what mini games will be available in TOR, but there will be cantinas.
Cross class combo's Thats not vague.
Borderland's style death penalty system. A good alternative system, but doesn't make or break a game.
Visceral proactive style combat with a lot emphasis on positioning e.g emphasis on proactive support rather than pushing red bars up, skill animations show exactly what a skill is doing and attacking characters from different positions affects the the amount of damage done etc. Also a similar feature in TOR, not only does cover affect the Smuggler and IA but all classes get bonuses from cover and positioning.
Arena Net won't announce something when unless it's actually working in game. Also something that BioWare has stated many, many times.
Minus a few take it or leave it options, the games sound remarkably similar, yet everyone seems to argue one of these games will be better than another. The truth is, its subjective. Players that liked GW1 will most likely like the same combat that will be prevalent in GW2. Those that are more psyched with the Star Wars style choreographed combat will probably enjoy playing that one more.
Theres no right or wrong answer here. Both games have very similar features, theres no reason they can't both be popular. The strangest thing so far is that none of us have actually gotten our hands on either game yet (save for those testers in TOR), so perhaps we should all wait and actually see how it feels, AFTER we play.

Agree, the similarity thing is that both companies seem to have nailed the problems with other MMO's and are building systems that are distilled from only the best features of MMO's.
Need to see gameplay vids and more vids of both games to have a better idea of each one's combat mechanics.
It hard for me I come down pretty even but I but I voted GW2 just because I think SWOTOR will be pretty standard fair done Bioware's way. Whereas I am very curious about how Arena Net will pull things off. Bioware is a good RPG company with a solid grounding in the real fundamentals of RPG. But Arena Net just plain good at design and very innovative.
Not trying to offend anyone but it seems that a lot of people are putting way too much faith in the fact that Bioware is making TOR. Yes, Bioware is full of talented developers who make great games but they have absolutely no experience in making MMOs. Most of their MMO experience comes from Mythic which actually worries me, since WAR sucks pretty bad.
Based on my experience with Bioware games, I have no doubt that TOR will have amazing story lines for the different classes. However, I have yet to read anything about TOR which makes it an MMO that will stand out from the rest. So far, judging by information I was about to find out about TOR, it seems to be WoW with voice overs and great quests.
My take on TOR is that BW will try to make a storyline for people that is almost single player game-like. And that story will probably be good.
But there will still be the problem of everyone doing the same thing and being slight variations of cloned content. I see nothing from Bioware that will get around the main problem of a static MMO world and having your own character story. Where your "story" evaporates in the face of the broader context and the fact that there are 10,000s (on a server) of other people running around who are also doing it.
In their single player games BW is very buttoned down KOTOR and ME series offer you a couple choices to branch off but the story flow is very much pre-determined and there are only a few possibilities in the end. Their stuff is not open ended.
The MMO environment will water down this model a lot. They know it and they would like to address it, I am sure. But I am pretty sure they have no real technical mechanics to really do so. They will do everything they can to keep people engaged in a story but in the end the sotry will be half as impactful as a single player game with the same story.
IMO the only way to really have something like TOR truly feel like the story is "there" is to have the Sith/Jedi War be something players affect. Have PvE and PvP warzones/events where people go in and affect which planets are controlled by which faction and things like that. You need to offset the same-ness of DIKU style MMO with events and places with changing states.
But I am pretty sure BW will make a very static world. And if you look at their last few single player games they do that as well, tightly controlled.
Edit:
I hadn't read maskedweasel's post and had not heard about TOR's PvP control points, I hope that turns out well.
But "dynamic" and "static" are not just buzzwords. They have very specific meanings in computer science and are applicable to an MMO.
The thing that should concern people more though is what is the consequence of the change? If it is very little then it might as well be static. This is where marketing-speak starts coming in.
-I find it odd that a GW player would be saying that.
-There is no gameplay video of GW 2. At least from what I tried to look up so what, so how do you know if GW 2 wont be the same thing? Oh I know because Anet said it will be.
-Constant updates, more content patches, more money to fix bugs. I could go on about why I don't mind paying $15 a month to play a game.
-Game Mechanics for your lightsaber problem,If you wanted to DPS with a double bladed saber then that would be in the sith inquz section. and Yeah I know I wish Anet would of taken it over...... Guild wars in space does not sound very fun now that I think about it.
-It sucks that given the success of Anets ONE game people all of a sudden think they can't go wrong. Look at City of Heroes by Cryptic, a really fun game, but after that they started to suck badly.

No.
ArenaNet has more than one game. ANet was founded by some of the best of "Old Blizzard" the founders of ANet basically created BattleNet. Jeff Strain write the original base code for WoW in the late 90's
Cryptic made tons of mistakes in the development of CoH. That CoH is a good game now is almost in spite of Cryptic. All the mistakes you have seen from Cryptic now are mistakes they made in CoH too. This is what happens with outfits like Cryptic 1 good thing then 3 bad things. They get lucky and then their half assed way of doing things catches up with them. Its pretty common really. Cryptic did not get worse. Its the same as it was. And the people who learned the lessons of CoH seem to be the ones who stayed with CoH/NCSoft. Castle seems to not go off half-cocked.

I'm no SW fan either.
so many positives to bioware
Bioware has never made a terrible game.
They have a huge budget
13+ Worlds that developers have said to be huge in size & exploration
Extremely Dedicated Team with extremely talented staff.
Not Connected to A Korean Publisher
Leader in RPG Games
Bioware has literally addressed almost every major concern about End Game, Too much storytelling not enough multiplayer, mass pvp, etc.
Bioware won't announce or say something unless it is certain to happen.*cough ncsoft cough*
Space Combat
Stated Numerous times that the multiplayer aspect is most important, the only MINOR single player part is your CLASS/PERSONAL STORY. And you're still able to do it with friends/guilds.
Not your average Burnt out Fantasy Catagory MMO
Brings TONS of new ideas, concepts to the MMO Table.
Your own personal customizable starships
Confirmed that Character Customization for Gear and Character is Extremely important to Bioware, has thousands of different pieces of gear... no more recolored items for the most part (WoW / Aion / Almost every MMO)(Comicon Video)
The Most Complex MMO ever made
Warzones for mass pvp
And most of all, Bioware knows how to NOT fuck up *cough**cough* again*
I'm no SWTOR or Bioware fanboy, for the longest I've supported GW2 over SWTOR but as of lately, I definitely see GW2 get annhilated in quality, players, story, pvp.. well pretty much everything other then an event system. then again, they could have that also. this game is rediculously huge in quality and content already and this game is still far away.
GOODLUCK GUILDWARS 2 LOL!
Hmm?
Check the red?
lol, what a bad troll
And to be more contructive: First of all it's stupid to compare the two games to begin with. They both attract different types of gamers because TOR and GW2 are two diff MMO types:
Fantasy and Sci-Fi.
The question isn't which is/will be better, but which do you prefer?
Sci-Fi? or Fantasy? And if you prefer both then it should pretty much be a no-brainer, get both!

In red
The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release].
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.
Guild Wars 2, it just seems way more polished and refreshing than SWTOR is.
