THE OLD REPUBLIC ALL THE WAY FTW! Now another reason why I think people my be drawn to The Old Pepublic is the fact that it's Sci Fi and not fantasy .NOT that fantasy is a bad thing it's just been done a lot.I know that Sci Fi has been done quite a few times too but Sci Fi games have just as much appeal as fantasy games. But the old republic will be better then Eve Online and Star Trek Online,I mean lets face it Eve online is just a spaceship Mmo where all you do is fly around and do missons, but the space exploration is VERY nice but you can't go down to ANY of the planets and do anything. While with Star Trek online you get the space roaming AND you get the ground exploration and EVEN though Star Trek is older than Star Wars, look at which one got more fans, look at which one that got more publicity, movies, toy deals,tv shows, video games *cough Star wars:Battlefront cough* Star Wars is arguably the biggest franchise in the world and has made INSANE ammounts off money. So arguable the old republic has a little bit more hype then guild wars. But hey Guild Wars is fantasy and Fantasy has a INSANE amount of followers as well, just look at Harry Potter,Lord of the Rings,The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe, and countless other movies,Sci Fi and fantasy have always been at war and their battle is not gonna end any time soon
2) If you don't want to be disappointed then don't buy a new MMO on release wait for a few months.
You can almost touch/taste/feel the hype in the air from all the posts here.
The closer these games get to release the greater the hype, a massive AAA title based on our beloved Star Wars produced by Bioware and released by EA. The biggest release since WoW, how much better or bigger can it get?
GW2, F2P new takes on popular mehcanisms, extensively previewed.....
Some people maybe new to this genre and some may have forgotten about how the hype catches you up. Either way there will be a lot of disappointed folk on these forums once the games goes live.
I truly hope that all will go well but even if it does there will be people who will not like the game simply because of the way it was designed/implemented. The greater you get taken in by the hype the greater your expectations rise, and the greater your disappointment when it does not pan out as you expect.
I didn't read the last 39 pages about which game people are hyped for more, but I am wondering if anyone knows the answer to a question. Which game is spending more money on development and is there a large gap between the two?
I hope that I have a hard decision to make if GW2, SWTOR and Archeage are all great games. But my money is on Archeage out lasting both.
in the west? No korean grind will acomplish that
Again, it's not a Korean grind. In fact, the game was built with Westerners in mind as well. In actuality all MMOs in existance are a grind in some shape or form. The question comes down to whether it's blatantly apparent or not.
Am I hyped? Nope. I've learned long ago not to hype myself for any game. I'll simply wait and watch, and play whatever is good.

I heard the same story about Aion.
Anyway, i learned with said story (Aion) not go get hyped for games anymore, when it comes out I'll play it, wont play Star Wars because im still in love with fantasy MMO's and the fact that it comes out during holiday season when I have uni exams in january its the perfect excuse not to play SW
Why not get both? One is pay to play, the other is not. So ultimately, in the end, you can afford to do so.
Me? I am more hyped about The Old Republic but I will not lie that Guild War 2 has my interest. I thought the first GW was a great game, but I never did buy any of the expansions. Shame on me.
Overall TOR is more appealing to me though. I, for one, enjoy the art style they are using along with the story elements that are going to be tied into the game. I love to explore and if the land is anything similar to Britannia or Azeroth, then I should have no problem getting lost in the game.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has been stated to be one of the most expensive MMORPG's to be in development and the most expensive project that EA has handled.

You're kind right. Aion went through the process of "westernization" before it was properly launched in the west after its eastern launch. GW2 is essentially only funded by NCSoft, that's the extent of their involvement in its development because NCWest aka dudes from ANet are in direct control of it and they're western developers.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
I think TOR is going to have LOADS of people playing it at the start, but a few months in it's just going to start draining. It'll still have a solid playerbase, but nothing near Guild Wars 2. That game will be the next big thing in the MMO world, mark my words!
GW2 of course, i would kill for a nice SW game but havent those swtor lovers watched any gameplay videos, didnt you guys see how stationary and dull the saber battles are? it looked really boring and it will probably be another theme park with a different theme. And by the look of the people's reactions/comments/expressions, the community forming around Swtor looks disturbing. I would rather play KOTOR instead of seeing trolls roaming in the galaxy.
On the other hand, guild wars had a nice and mature community that promotes competitive gameplay, which i prefer. And approach of Anet to the dev process of GW2 is so professional. While i like sw a lot, Guild Wars' story is excellent and the world is very nicely designed as well. I consumed most of the game list of this site with my friends and still guild wars 1 is the most solid game, and gw2 is the most promising game, period (is it the trend?)
PS: also seriously, be objective and watch both game's videos, really? can you really even make a statement like "gw2 vs swtor"???? it sounds funny it is gw2 alone, then another game vs some another game

Your imagination is as big as the universe
Two points that we have learnt about MMOs:
1) Hype = disappointment.
2) If you don't want to be disappointed then don't buy a new MMO on release wait for a few months.

GW1 has bored me to death. GW2 only gets features that really dont interest me.
I rather have an extreme amount of story content, thank you very much. After all, thats something I've missed in MMOs from day one on.

I ain't hyped for either, GW2 might surprise, but not believing anything before I see it with my own eyes. MMORPG industry teaches to be sceptic.

Is anyone not hyped for either one. I don't get what the hype would be about, neither offer something that's out of the ordinary.
I don't get it. A big multiplayer version fo KOTOR for 15 bucks a mont? Sign me up! that's sounds great.
swtor for sure

I am baffled as to why anyone can get themselves hyped up for SW:TOR...
Guild wars 2 period. only thing TOR has going for it is the IP, and that it.
SW:TOR period.
