I never get far in GW1, because I never believe in the B2P model. To me, there's a trillion better asian f2p games, why would anyone bother to play GW.
And that is pretty much correct. Asians dont' play GW, since they already get trillions of f2p games anyway. GW is only big for the western MMO communities.
Rift: Doesn't seem to be doing anything super interesting. Sure there's the rifts, but GW2 is doing dynamic events along with countless other features. However, their class system is somewhat interesting I suppose.
Tera: It has AWESOME combat. But, since it's "westernized", my interest is lost completely. I mean seriously, the female characters fight it their freaking underwear.

I think that it is an "eastern" feature not a western one.
Rift: Tries to do something like GW2, but GW2 sounds more interesting.
Tera: Has twitch-based combat. And pretty graphics.
Am i missing anything here?
In that other thread, 40% voted they'll try Rift before GW2. Why?
And are so many ppl into twitch-based combat that much?
Just curious why do you care?
I mean we use to have gamers who wanted their fellow gamer to find a game to enjoy.
These day's with this new generation of gamers it seems to be the "My Game Is Better Then Yours" who for some reason can not understand why person A would like to play game X over game Y.
Just curious.
F.e., i didn't know that both games seem to feature town sieges, maybe even with destroying and rebuilding stuff - now that sounds a little more interesting.
About twitch-based combat... well, I'm really a bit opionated about that. So what if WoW suddenly had twitch-based combat, would that make it so much more awesome? To me, it just doesn't make much of a difference. But if someone is really into that, fine with me as well.
PS. why do people actually bash NcSoft? Never heard anything bad about them...
I want to play GW2 and I can't wait for them to reveal more information. I read about Rift and Tera and I will maybe give Rift a chance depending on the informations they will add in the future; I want to see what other classes they will have. As for Tera, I guess I might be missing something too, I don't see anything interesting in it judging only from their website.
I haven't really hear any valid point of why people are looking for Tera either, other that they like asian art or gameplay or whatever () and that is not NCsoft making it. I'm not saying it won't be a fun game, maybe it will be better than most but I don't see anything that will make me want to try it,at least for now.
What I said was I had a problem with the mindset that would allow starting brand new characters at max level. There are plenty of ways to separate the PvP player that you point to. I don't care about those. It is issue with even having the thought in an MMO that "Hey, for whatever , let's let players start out at max level/skills! Yay!".
That "mindset" was called "skill > grind", and it's a great thing, too. The point is that level, gear and skills don't matter, what matters is what you do with it.
It's also strange that you bash GW for that while praising Rift for letting players switch classes at any time without penalty.
Although Rift's class system sounds nice while I'm disappointed that GW2 dropped dual classes.
From reaidng these forums lately I tihnk the answer to the question is....
Because EA/Bioware/Mythic isn't making.I tihnk that's the only qualificaiton a lot of people here need to get hpyed...It's certianly not a wealth of information, gameplay footage or hands on experience.
TERA??....a Korean grindfest that has great graphics and manual aim?
Do alittle reading before you say stupid stuff like that.
Do YOU see it?
I DO.
"We got rid of the trinity." How'd you do that? "Now everyone can heal." Sounds like you just took the mechanic and spread it thin. "Well no, there's one class that can do it better than others." I see, so they're healers. "No. They're.." -mind asplode-
Why? The following are probably the AAA games you're looking to be released within reasonable time span - and you can be hyped for each of them with regards to what they promise depending on your personal flavor:
Guild Wars 2: Good organized and equal PvP, themepark PvE with dynamic events, westernized graphics and NcSoft as publisher. Few new features like no healers.
TERA: Action packed combat. Asian. Aimed combat. Asian graphics and character models. You can aim in combat. A politics system. Aion-lookalike. Up-skirts potential.
Rift: Classic-style MMO with extensive class customization system. Dynamic in-game world. Westernized graphics.
Star Wars: Full voice-over system, casual story-focused group/play with replay value, starship combat, light-sabers, Luke Skywalker. Huge budget.
Pick your choice!! (I take full responsibility for having covered all of theses games most amazing features, and that I have not forgotten any other MMO ever to be released in the future).
It's clear they (Trion) aren't copying an element of GW's gameplay. It may be similar to bits and pieces here and there, but that holds true for the majority of games being made. Not a big deal. It's the way that Trion is doing their version that's appealing to me.
Um, I don't believe ai stated that I had a problem with a PvP player being separated from the PvE population if they wanted to. What I said was I had a problem with the mindset that would allow starting brand new characters at max level. There are plenty of ways to separate the PvP player that you point to. I don't care about those. It is issue with even having the thought in an MMO that "Hey, for whatever , let's let players start out at max level/skills! Yay!".
Kind of odd that you have a problem with that. Probably the only person that I've seen that has had a problem with a separation of pvp and pve with the pvp character being maxed level. In case you didn't know, that max level character could not participate in any pve whatsoever. It was purely for the pvp players who had no desire to participate in the rpg part of the game.
Wow. I don't know of any other way to say it. You are fixated on the PvP separation of PvE aspect of it and, well, I've said in plain english that my concern had nothing to do with that. I can't fix reading comprehension, though. Carry on.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
After getting burned by games that I spent years following and being involved in the beta community only to never even make it out, it's tough to get hyped about anything that isn't being made by really well known people like the new star wars game. So what you want is to force a player to pve if they don't want to? If I want to just pvp shouldn't I be able to just jump in pvp right away? Or do you prefer it like most mmos where you spend a few months leveling up, getting gear through pve, then you get to pvp. What if I want to try a different playstyle in pvp? Great, now I have level another character through the crap that I hated. Anyway, I read you just fine but you aren't seeing what it is. I'm glad you aren't developing a game. Hopefully you can find that game that you want.

Although Rift's class system sounds nice while I'm disappointed that GW2 dropped dual classes.
Well, first, I didn't "bash" anything. Now that we've cleared up that error, there most assuredly is a difference (to me, I'm not asking you to agree but most certainly am not going to let you belittle my view because you don't agree/understand) in letting a player start a brand new character and in "one click" they are max level. Why even have levels? And it does not matter for what reason they do it (PvE, PvP, Raiding, whatever).
If you're going to have levels, then the players should have to work through them at least once. Sure I'll be able to switch classes (amongst the 8 within an archtype) in Rift but I can't just log in day 1 and click a button and become level 50 and get access to the ability to have 2 or 3 classes kitted that require levels 15 and 30 respectively.
Maybe this will make it easier for you and the other guy to understand. I would have rather seen players have to go from level 1 to 20 doing nothing but PvP. It isn't grinding because the player enjoys PvP. If levels mean nothing, fine. Get rid of them! Just have the player make a character and give them all the skills you have in the game at creation. Don't use levels. But if you are going to put levels in, use them at least once.
Again, I'm not "bashing" GW. I don't like it. There are plenty of things you two don't like either. It's ok and the world still spins.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

And I have found the game I want. Sorry, but I am developing a game. Rest assuredly you'll never get to play it for various reasons.

Tera: It has AWESOME combat. But, since it's "westernized", my interest is lost completely. I mean seriously, the female characters fight it their freaking underwear.
I think that it is an "eastern" feature not a western one.
That's why I said "westernized". "Westernized" is MMORPG jargon for a eastern game translated and modified to fare better in the western audience. An example would be Aion. It's still eastern, just not as eastern.
I am looking forward to Tera because it appears that it will be challenging for me. I'm not particularly good at twitch-based games... Also, the game world looks like it could be awesome, but who knows? If it is a wide-open world, then cool. If it is fairly linear, then I'll probably get bored after a few months.

please tell me what makes you think TERA won't be a grindfest? It's another Korean company. Can you name one Korean made game that isn't a grindfest that was successful in the west?
Theyve said it multiple times. Could they be lying through their teeth? Sure. But right now it seems to be one of the main things they want to be rid of before they release it to western audiences. I also automatically passed it off as another grindfest MMO at first but the more I read about the game the more I loved it.
The only one I'll comment on is Rift sense that is the one I'm looking forward to the most....
Everytime I see the GW v Rift comparison I realize that all a person has done is read some canned blurb on what Rift is about. I blame this somewhat on Trion because the information they release is very disjointed. If someone takes the time to look through everything from official releases to the Dev IRC chats a picture takes shape of a game that in many ways is very unique.
I'm excited about the different class system but am not fooling myself into thinking that maximizing my character will be anything but a cookie cutter spec. The fun though will be getting to that spec Where I see Rift making the separation from the other games is in the dynamic content. Anyone dismissing the dynamic content doesn't understand what that word means to Trion. Read this article from 2006 and then put the 3 games they are developing into that context.
I've actually been following Rift since 2006 (when it was a tech demo for Heroes of Telara) and recall being very excited about the dynamic system Trion was talking about. I'm pretty sure it's been referenced in this thread as well. I think it's been pointed out, however, that what Guild Wars 2 is proposing (http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/dynamic-events/dynamic-events-overview/) is comparable in its departure from standard MMO gameplay, so the lines between the two are becoming a bit blurred, aside from preferences for distinct elements of gameplay (such as traditional archetypes vs the array of GW2 classes, some of which remain unrevealed), the importance of a robust personal storyline to particular players, and the style of PvP preferred.
I have only seen trailers & very little gameplay content. In short I have not seen enough to base an opinion on this game.
Sure it looks nice but so was Aion & AOC. PvE content is delivered in a unique way but so did Aion. I'm not saying Rift will be like Aion or AOC, but I have not seen anything to get excited about so far.
Let's see how the testing goes.

New company, new philosophies. Best part? Its not NCSoft.
Aion repeatedly said it wouldn't have a grind either. We all saw how that worked out.

Can they deliver is the real question.
