If there is a demo, is it open to the public? Where can I get a chance to play this "epic and mmo changing game"?
Yes, I believe they do hype the game up to get people to buy it. They say things that are vague and can be easily misinterpreted. I haven't played the game and you probably haven't either, so I will wait until I can see it to believe it.
You can play the game at GC(next week) or at PAX (in the next 3 weeks).
@ Masked Weasel
I take it as; if the developer is aiming for this and they succeed then they have succeeded but if they are aiming for that and they fail then they've failed. An example is; If AoC wants to gain and retain 1 million customers and they don't then they've failed but if they were aiming for initial box sales and enough players to keep the game lively then they may have a success on their hands. GW1 was aiming for box sales as well as a good game to keep more people buying, and the fact that 1.5million people bought all 3 campaigns and 1 expac(statistically) is definitely noteworthy. It just means they were able to retain the amount of people who absolutely loved the game.
The main reason why I stopped playing GW1 for some time is because of the announcement of GW2. If they didn't announce GW2 I think many people would still be playing it today and maybe there would be more box sales.
I can agree with that. I think in regards to the OP, its apparent not everyone will like every game, and each of these games listed represents a particular play style that appeals to its own market. I don't think its about whats better, or what will be the best out of the three. What it ends up being is, will someone finally be able to find a game they enjoy playing? I think that these titles will be polished enough, and each will have enough appeal to certain players to warrant a resurgence in MMO popularity (aside from WoW).
Remember Horizons, Shadowbane, Matrix Online, Asheron's Call 2, Hero's Journey, Neocron, Tabula Rasa. I was nice by not naming more.
The fact that there are so many MMO's out and all the generic f2p MMO's is what is killing this Genre. Well, it is certainly splitting up communities, more options and choices is definately better, but you wont never see any huge influx of players in these games because they have spread themselves thin.
The wow basic formula is here for some years and will stay, the trick is copy wow and improve on top of that, and one game doing that is swtor, all others either copy with low quality or knoledge or try to do something different and fail. So swtor has a gigantic comunity behind it and years of story, follows the wowish basic formula, its made by bioware, will for sure have quality and polish and alot of content for every mmorpg player of different tastes..and it will run in almost every pc available.
GW2 wants to innovate, its not proved that people will like those innovations in reality....but in theory people think its great, the graphics will be heavy and few ppl can actualy run the game with settings that look really good, i think it will be an asian game better then average that alot of westerns will like as they did GW because its free also.
FF14 Only people that are fans of final fantasy will play a game like this, no jumping, no swimming, no pvp, combat is not action based becomes boring, invisible walls all over with no freedom to even jump down from a rock...
Noone of this will even come close to kill wow, and noone ever will because no mmorpg will ever have the numbers wow has...theres too many mmos out there and people will spread out in all of them.

We definatley need something great to bring a large portion of us (MMORPG players) back together.
Will we be graced by three amazing games or just more crap that simply doesnt live up to peoples expectations/ hype?
I personally feel all three games are going to set this forum on fire, noone will be happy but thats just me lol.
what do you think?
You already gave answer yourself
They will all three bring nothing new just all of same ol same ol....
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
I see TOR and GW2 going farther than FFXIV. Just my opinion.
Also, I wish people would do their research before commenting on things. GW2 is not an asian game at all, it's developed by AreaNet which is an american studio located in Bellevue, Washington U.S.A.. They are their own studio, and are partnered with NCsoft for marketing purposes.
And I agree with a statement above me about TOR, It's got a massive following of Star Wars fans built in. And a massive following of all things BioWare . They both are looking to innovate in very appetizing ways, they both have rather significant development time clocked in and significant bugets. GW2 being without a monthly fee is going to attract a WHOLE lot of people, especially if it can live up to even half of what they are talking about.

Do you just love WoW or really really love it ;-)
GW is nothing like wow even the open world full blown mmo that will be GW2 is nothing like wow and that why at its peak in 06 GW has over 3 mil active players .
I see TOR and GW2 going farther than FFXIV. Just my opinion.
I tend to agree with this right here. I am almost regretting the fact that I am buying this game (FF14) already. My brother has pre ordered , my friend is getting it and my brothers friend is planning on playing it, so I will use it to kill some time I suppose.. a shame the good games are so far in the distant future.
Anyone who's been keeping up with the GW2 news (blog posts, interviews etc.) will realize that Arenanet are truly passionate about this game. I disagree with a previous poster about it being in the "all these features and everything else phase" because:
1. They haven't announced THAT much new stuff.
2. They've made it very clear they only announce features that are playable and IN THE GAME. That's why they haven't talked about PvP very much; it still very much under development.
The Old Republic? I'm HOPING it will be good - but I'm afraid it might just end up being "WoW with lightsabers and tons of voice-overs". Bioware almost never make bad games though, so maybe their "bioware magic" will appear and let this game be totally awesome.
When you compare TOR and GW2, they're both trying to innovate, but GW2 is simply innovating more. Everything from leveling to skills to death itself is unique in GW2, while TOR seems to have gone with the old "do what works" strategy. GW2 will probably be more successful than TOR simply due to it's B2P (Buy to Play) model. Even if it sucks, it's not like your paying a subscription fee for it or anything.
FFXIV will probably be the same as FFXI, so if you liked the original, good on ya.
Final Fantasy is the game that I am waiting on right now. At first I did not like it but as I keep getting more info and watching videos I like what I see.
Star Wars I think will have huge box sales but afther a few months people will start to get bored and leave because most will have maxed out and done the content a few times.
Guild Wars 2 is going to do well because it already has a strong fan base of 6 Million + waiting on it. I am really looking forward to this game also to see just how different its going to be.
Tera I think its going to suprise alot of people but its a Korean mmo and until one comes out and proves that its more than just a grind people will always be skeptical on trying it.
Rift I dont know alot about but I did see a video and it looked very nice.
GW is nothing like wow even the open world full blown mmo that will be GW2 is nothing like wow and that why at its peak in 06 GW has over 3 mil active players .
Nice, I always wanted to know their peak active. So taking that as a reference point, the active user base started to drop in 07 when GW2 was announced and after people had exhausted EoTN's content. I even stopped playing for a while during that time and I hadn't even finished any campaign.
Looking at that again, I can estimate that at least 80% of those people will be playing GW2 therefore Anet already has a guaranteed userbase for their game.
You're gonna have to remind me of what happened 'cos I tend not to listen to hype, I try to listen to facts. But I tried all those games except Darkfall, not because I was hyped but because I could..(oh and I was in Beta for all of them except Darkfall).
Forum hype is one thing but media is an entirely different beast. Darkfall had hardly a blip on the media scene. Warhammer and AoC on the other hand were all over the gaming media.

Most of DF's hype came from the forum waves. The Site for DF even had false infomation.
I was watching the video but the battle was so monotonous I just skipped to the end.... and what an ending it was...boss fight does anything but rock..

Impressive how this kind of topics becomes "what mmo is better?" threads and calls for a immense amount of trolls lol

The success or lack thereof for those games had nothing to do with the hype. Also I don't recall much hype for Darkfall.
lol MMORPG.com darkfall forum was raging back then with hype.

Guild Wars had that. complete turn off. Hope its only for a solo dungeon at early lvls or something, and not for the whole game.
