Meh, people share their opinion all the time on this site. While I agree with you that there is no purpose to it (unless he wants to start some trolling thread, which these tend to devolve in).

Ihmotepp, sorry that you didn't like the style of the game. At least you didn't come here to bash it with baseless assumptions like some have. Anyway, hopefully one of the new mmos coming out next year will have something more to your preference.

Isn't that th epurpose of internet forums???To share and discuss opinions on relevent subjects?Or in MMORPG.com fourm's case post your opinion to seek supporters and approval or insult and ridicule any opinion not totally in agreement to yours? That's what it seems like anyway...precious little discusison jsut opposing extreme views wit hno middle gorund.

As to the topic at hand...I was not impressed with the footage coming out of gamescon but neither was I discouraged.I don't tihnk there wasn't much backing up their large words but there certianly was nothing proving that they couldn't bakc those up in the future.

Stylistically I have some of the problems others do with the graphic style etc but if the game turns out as fresh and fun as they claim I'll get over it fast.even if it does look more like Diablo than an MMORPG to me at this stage, there is plenty of time before release and I'm sure a lot of inofrmation to learn and see.

Mind you Diablo in a persistant world could be a great thing.

The video camera quality is poor and amateur.  Heck, you cant even understand what the speaker was saying. It's difficult to have an honest review of it without actually playing the demo yourself or watching it through a well lighted professional lens. Although I do have to agree the particles was a bit overpowering, sorta reminded me of playing a streetfighter arcade. The UI interface was plain and did not compliment the aesthethics of the game, the brush stroke, oil painting look. Seeing as how they boast the kind of artsyle they were going for, I don't think this important detail will be overlooked. Those two stood out the most for me.  However, I will not be surprised if any cosmetic or gameplay changes are made when beta rolls as it had with its predecessor. They are known for that.  Holding this demo at a player-friendly event is a plus for the dev team. They'll be more than happy to receive some real player feedbacks.

Since I have not seen the official live streams they put up every morning in the U.S., I can only read about the experience of the participants at that event which offered a closer perspective from the floor.

This simply doesn't look appealing to me. To much particle effects and what not.

TOR combat looks like more fun to me.

This is 100% subjective. I'm not saying one is going to be better quality than the other, just that they look quite different and will likely appeal to different audiences, although of course there will be some overlap, and some players will like both.

In the words of a zealous FF14 fan: "Good, I don't want you to play anyhow! Go back to WOW AKA TOR NOW!"

Not really... guess the vitriol from them spilled over today. image

    How about this video? http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/288086/

Think you still have some time to give it a second look before launch - and if not we will see you in TOR as well. Bounty or Consular... decisions decisions. GW2 makes it easy to have two loves since it's free after box purchase - she's not jealous.

GW2 Combat look fun and appealing which could be to the movement and the playstyle.

SWTOR look's boring and bland which could mean the player is just boring and bland but almost every video I have seen it looks boring and bland.

Honestly for such a cruddy quality video that doesn't really show much about gameplay beyond some bits of the UI, character movement and animation. I wouldn't really even base any preconceptions on it till actual ingame footage was presented in a direct fashion. Everything was so washed out with browns and gritty that hard to make any detail out, but was enough to get people carried away to the heights of trolling and fanboism.

All I can say is that, the player playing the demo doesn't do the the game justice.

If I'm on the driver seat, you'll see me jumping, running, switching weapons, etc.

The players playing the demo is boring...not the game.

    Ready for GW2!!!

Am I the only one that enjoyed the video?  I'm pretty much feeling the opposite of the OP over the video.  The video quality wasn't the greatest but it was good enough to be able to let the viewer know what was going on.  The special effects were nice and the animations look very well done.  I don't really have an opinion on everyone being able to res one another yet.  I do like me lots of big white numbers though ;).

I expect both MMO's to do quite well, but yes, each has its own identity and way of doing things, not to everyone's taste.

About the videos, here are some better ones:

    - a high(er) quality, where you get a presentation walkthrough in Charr area: Wartower video  (in English after 1st minute)

    - and here's a good walkthrough from start through the human area,  where the presenter shows how the dynamic events works from beginning when you arrive in a village invaded by centaurs to a castle under siege, until the boss fight with the huge earth elemental. Intermingled you pick up and follow Personal Story quests and you see a short trip in the city, while spells can be seen that can be cast while running or that can be charged to the intensity level you like:

human area walkthrough, part 1  (german presentation)

human area walkthrough, part 2  (german presentation)

Or if the german presentation is bothering you, you can find an english presentation here:

Guild wars 2 abilities not up to par with Swtor, are you kidding me? You can dodge roll out of the way when someone is attacking you in guild wars 2, The skill are super responsive and strategic in how you use them with other classes and how you position them. all Swtor has going for it is that it's a star wars game.

Know what I love about people who say they like SWTOR's "Cleaner and more classical mmorpg style combat" Over something new and innovative? That they are basically saying they don't want change! They want the EQ/WoW formula rehash with different skins in every mmo they buy! Im sorry, but the mmo genre is STALE right now, and its time for CHANGE. SWTOR is just buying another ticket to the failboat cruise that the mmo genre is currently in. SWTOR can be a good game, but it's stupid how some gamers put up with such mediocrity.

The difference between the SW:TOR vid and the GW2 vid is that SW:TOR is an official vid of gameplay so obviously it would look better.

All the GW2 gameplay vids currently released are unofficialy and have considerably bad quality.

You can't really compare both games without at least having an official gameplay vid from both games.

wow I came in here thinking 'oh great GW2 is going to suck now'.  I read posts with people making excuses for what must be horrible looking footage, and other people condemning the game.

I decide to try my best not to judge too harshly, I load up the vid, put it on 720p and fullscreen it.

It looks awesome.  I am not sure what is wrong with some people.  The gameplay looks more interesting, and the graphics more fluid and detailed than anything I've seen in MMOs for a long time.

I guess some people have high expectations and those expectations, when watching THAT PARTICULAR VID, weren't met and in essence they decide to condemn the game because of that. If they really wanted to check the game out, they'd look for a lot more vids (just go to the GW2 forum on this site there are LOADS of threads with good links) that show gameplay in a more clean cut fashion. I'm hoping MMORPG.com uploads some vids by monday so that some complaints may be quelled seeing as people don't listen to other forumers.

    This is not a game.

Heh, I know what you mean. There were some  things I saw I didn't like, but some of the posters seem to have gotten the impression that GW was promising to 'save the MMO industry' or some nonsense like that.

I think people are just desperate for a new game, and given the lack of promising games up until now, when it's not 100% what they imagined it to be, they panic.

This pretty much says it all.  SWTOR is offering the same cookie cutter combat that 101 other MMOs already offer.

But then again, there are people who prefer golf over sports like soccer or basketball.  I shouldn't be surprised here.

It obvious that you will get swtor fanboys coming to these forums trying to pick holes into GW2,it's the fear factor. They know their game is looking duller by the day , they are desperate for others to like their game. They didn't see GW2 coming they thought it would only be WOW CAT giving them stiff competition, guess that's what happens when you get blinded by the shinny bits on BioWare belt.

Their game on these forums is slipping further and further down the pile and now major gaming sites are starting to stand up and take notice of GW2, it's a hard pill to swallow for most of these swtor fans.

  • aesperusaesperus Member UncommonPosts: 5,135

Eh, I'd personally like to stay away from GW2 vs. SW discussions. I want both games to do well. While it's obvious they are taking two very different approaches, I think it'd be better for the genre as a whole if both were able to do well.

I will admit that currently I'm much more interested in what GW2 has to offer, but that doesn't mean TOR will be a bad game. It has features I don't like, but so does GW2. Don't feed the trolls that come in here (just report), and lets keep talking about GW2 =P.
