You should add APB to that list. It's by far the game that has let me down the most. It couldve been so good but RTW didn't deliver.

Aion, the devs called out all sorts of things during development; such as huge worlds, factions dynamically interacting, great focus on flying, engaging crafting and whatnot.

None of that was in the game imo.

But the biggest issue was that it was supposed to be a very PvP centric game, yet PvP rarely seemed to happen and when it did, it was as a fortress zerg or some huge group ganking you in the Abyss.

You could even earn PvP points faster by PvE grinding monsters... Absurd.

    Darkfall for me.

I expected a 3D version of UO and what I got was a Fantasy version of rocket arena.

A very barebones sandbox wannabe, promising the world and delivering very little.

I havent been that disappointed in a long time.

Going way back, and obviously it's not on your list, The Matrix Online.  Although to be fair, I couldn't do much in the game without lag and visual bugs that might have been on my end, since I was trying to run it on a mid-range laptop.

Im sorry buddy i could have added like ten more games but this forum has a cap on the amount of items you can put in a poll.

Games like TR, APB and F2p games like Allods, Rom and atlantica could have made the list also.

If i didn't add a game you felt disappointed you the most feel free to add it in your post, damn 10 item limit sucks.

I would be in agreement that Aion was my biggest dissapontment.

However, I have to disagree that it was supposed to be a pvp centric game.

The game was never supposed to be a "pvp" game or a "pve" game. The game was supposed to let players concentrate on the type of play they wanted. However, where some players had questions was whether or not they could solely concentrate on their desired type of play. And of course they could, but they always had to deal with the other type of play.

For me the dissapointment came with how the fortresses were set up as I was hoping they would be more like Lineage 2 fortresses where players would hold them for more than a short bit.

Also, I didn't like how the world felt so "created". Not an open world at all but one where it was difficult to find places that were new and exciting as many areas had a path that wound around the map.

As far as flight goes, the original design was not free flying but essentially placing players on flight paths. Because players were excited about the idea of free flight they made the system more robust. However, it seems that many players weren't too excited about how they implemented it.

Due to the pure hatred people have for that game they would simply select WoW for the hell of it.

    sorry.

No Asheron's Call 2? That was my first experience seeing nothing but complete hate for an MMO. Even before NGE.

I happened to love the title, tho. But looking @ the Darktide population, I was one of the only ones :)

    sorry.

Well it's not an accurate poll then if you leave out significant options :P

But I abstain from voting for any of the current options and vote for WoW anyways.

The game lacks any meaningful way to impact the game world, the crafting system is a joke, the economy is even more of a joke, it takes little skill or effort to progress...

uh, I think I'll stop there before I end up on rant mode.

Sorry you feel that way. The poll has limited spots and placing a game that not only holds 60% of the market but gets glowing reviews from critics would make me seem like a troll.

Nothing is stopping you from choosing WoW though, other people added games that werent on the list :)

To be honest, I usually have pretty realistic expecations of a game.  I get excited and I get interested just the same, but i can usually tell what's bs and what's reality.

I was disappointed that AoC dropped the PvE siege component.  But I knew that long before release.

I've been disappointed in many games, but not really due to my expectations.

I was disappointed TR got cancelled as it actually was a great game and just needed a little work and higher difficulty.

I was disappointed Vanguard's diplomacy system didn't interact with the other sphere of play, but really i had low expectations for it anyway.

Dark and Light is probably the only one that went totally lower than expectations as it had promised so much interesting stuff and came out with literally NOTHING.

I think SWTOR will be a huge disappointment for people.  But probably not for me as I have reasonably expectations.  I'm also waiting for Rift, but all I expect is EQ2 + dynamic content, so i can't really disappoint much.

You should have added a Other as last option there are so many failed games out there. But the biggest fail in my eyes was Dark and Light. some things i remember i was hyped over when i was waiting for the game.

Big world that would take days to run from one side to the other

Mobs that migrate around like real animals

    PvP with huge castle fights

PvP where you could cut the suply lines for the enemy towns

    Solid class system

Free flying where there was almost no limit on how high you could go

Realistic weather system that changed from winter to summer

In the end the only thing they got right in the game was the game world every thing else was a fail.

    From the list, WAR.

But overall, as others have stated above, Dark and Light. Looked fun as hell, I followed it on the forums with enthusiam for months waiting for a release, and then it ends up being total crap. I wasn't able to buy it immediately and never really played it because of one problem after another on their part, and then watching videos of people playing it, I realized I was one of the lucky ones.

Then watching as the head developer bitched at the playerbase for putting too much pressure on them to release it before it was ready was the icing on the cake.

Horizons, followed distantly by Auto Assault.

This was true, the world was vast with 15.000 sq miles to explore.

Mobs that migrate around like real animals

This actually did happen like it does in Ryzom.

    PvP with huge castle fights

This happened as well, me and my guild owned a vast fort and battle others but the low population blunted it.

PvP where you could cut the suply lines for the enemy towns

This was true as well even though it was broken it still happened.

    Solid class system

    Broken

Free flying where there was almost no limit on how high you could go

This was true, it had the best flying system of any mmorpg to date, that includes Vanguard.

I played Dark And Light right up to the very end when the game was FTP.

It really was a let down and could of been so much more. The fact that the devs stole the world did not help, big court cases killed it in the end.

The forums are still open as we speak.

For me it's EVE. I tried it a while after release after hearing a good friend of mine hail it to no end which turned my expectations up sky high. After really trying to enjoy it a few weeks I had to admit that I found it utterly boring.

Well, if I remember right the idea of flying free was there very early on and PvP was hyped considerably.

    But it's been a while.

I agree though, the world was a big disappointment as well and generally it lacked content.

Aion is definitely my biggest disappointment. There are some things from the game that I still like but I'll never return to play it.

Recently WAR was probably the biggest disappointment as far as I'm concerned.
