I changed from 10 to 1 because they can't take my 15 a month and remind me of my parents at the same time. I only get time to play videogames on weekends anyways, once Uni starts I'll barely get any time in the weekdays to chill in front of the ps3. 3-6 hr sessions on a Sat/Sun noon-evening is what I was looking forward to with FF14. DCUO will prolly be that game now or I will just stick with LoTRO since its new expansion should come early next year.
You know youre speaking out against game features which cater to those like you who only play a few hours here and there right?
Its essentially required you play at least one class to fully function in the higher levels, just like in XI. You know that right?
I'm in the beta. It takes me at least 4 hours of grinding the same mobs in the same exact place soloing and doing nothing else before I see a hint of surplus. Then my experience meter turns yellow. The penalty? A measly 10% or so from the exp I gain gets converted into surplus.
Do you also realize that surplus has its own rank? Now why would a penalty system have its own rank?
My pugilist's surplus rank is currently level 3. No one knows what surplus is for or why you can level it up like any other class.
After playing an additional hour with the 10% penalty, it gest bumped up to what seems like 20%. By this time my mind is numb from grinding on the same mobs doing the same exact motions, so I switch jobs to something else.
I usually switch to a crafting or gathering class around this time. After about a couple hours of doing this, I switch back to the class I was just playing prior that had the surplus exp and it's gone. Completely gone.
I know where this rumor started. It began from a news article at Sankaku Complex, a NSFW site where the only reason to go there is to fap to hentai images while reading articles made for the sole purpose of trolling retards.
The only confirmed fact is surplus exists, and that SE's approach towards evening the player field between casual and hardcore gamers is to "punish" the hardcore gamers. That's it. Anything else is rumor and speculation.
THAT'S what i was looking for. Someone in beta who can say how it's being implemented. As far as i can see,no problem. you're playing for 4 hours and no extrems in exp penalty. If that's the deal,i'm still in. But, i read somewhere that surplus hits after lvl 14,or something like that. What lvl r u?
Originally posted by keiichi2k3 Originally posted by Kiskara So, if I'm reading all this correctly, SE has implemented a game mechanic that...heavily persuades you to switch out from your chosen class and a regular interval for the sake of keeping everyone even? I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. I'm not a "rush to endgame" hardcore player, but I have no issues with those that are. It's a play style that doesn't fit with me. I like to wander about and see how far I can go at lvl 10 before I get wiped. I like to goof around near world bosses that I know are out of my league. I like doing quests. I RP. But I don't presume to force others to play the same way I do.; I just go and find like minded players to hang with. Most hardcore types do the same thing. It's not that big of a deal if a person can hit lvl cap within the first month (legitimately, mind you..RMT is a whole 'nother issue). If they've got the free time, and the drive, more power to them. I'll just be back at the starting line, chasing butterflies.
In FFXI, the player was forced to level a subjob or else their main job would be gimped. Want to level dancer? Oh, okay then level Ninja too. Oh what's that you hate Ninja? Too bad, deal with it, suck it up and grind it anyway so you're not a bad Dancer. The regular interval is not one hour. Not from what I tested at the beta. It's not even close to that. I bet everyone here is going to ignore my first post.
I agree that subjobs were important in FFXI, but there was a BIG difference.
If you wanted to take your dancer to 75 straight, you could. You could go out and grind mobs all day on weekends or weekdays if you wanted. If you didn't get a party because of no subjob, that didn't matter to the people who soloed and enjoyed that class anyways. It would take someone maybe twice as long as someone who didn't rush out and get a subjob right away but hey... FFXI wasn't about speeding to endgame, right? It was about the journey and that Dancer liked his journey grinding his toon.
A lot of people went ahead and hit 75 of MOST jobs straight anyways, then went back later to do their subs. Know why? They didn't want to keep switching back/forth because all the gear, food, arrow, bolt, weapon, ring, staff, gun, etc switching in the Mog House was a pain so they just went ahead and finished.
When they hit max, THEN some of them went back to do their /nin sub for 37 levels. The key is THEY chose WHEN to level that subjob. Not SE or a mechanic, not the parties that denied them, they did.
In this system, SE is automatically declaring it knows what's best for EVERY type of player casual AND hardcore. Not just some of them and that is wrong.
I will be playing at launch with my CE because I think they will lessen the penalties on this later when they realize the error of it, trying to keep casuals in striking distance of more active players, lol. When people are lazy or just don't have enough time to play, other people won't wait for them no matter what kind of mechanic is in place.
Hell, everyone had friends we've played with that didn't log on for 1 week due to RL issues and we didn't "wait" for them. What makes SE think we will wait to group up with total strangers who have to go to the beach for vacation? or because they were grounded?
But I understand why someone would not sub to FFXIV over this mechanic because the company is in complete control of their gaming habits even though the person is paying the fee.
Could you OP please show us some sort of evidence of his "1 hour limitation"? This looks awfully like a troll to me.
Yeah... I have no idea what he's talking about with a one hour limitation. There was/are no hourly limiters on anything in beta minus the 48 hour leves.
Oh well, the post I made (quoted by Etra above) got deleted by a mod. Along with 2 others. And I got a warning for the post quoted. Apparently asking for evidence is considered trolling around here.
Guess this post will be deleted as well. Maybe asking such awful questions will get me a ban. If so, then I won't be coming back.
Enjoy this post for the few seconds it's still up.
It's by design, not a bug. It will be tweaked i'm sure, but won't be 'fixed'. You have no idea how it will play out, but if that changes you from a 10 to a 1 then you might be too high maintenance for anyone to waste their time on.
This seems to be the case for 90% of the posters on these forums.
Well it also made me go from definitly going to buy, to not going to buy or even watch now.
SE is famous for forcing people to play a certain way, even when the players do not want to play that way. Let's say i want to be a melee dps like a dragoon or something, so I can only play what I WANT to play a certain amount of time before I am forced to be a white mage when I could give 2 shits less about healing or playing a mage class period. Maybe I only wanted to play this so I could play Dragoon and that's it.
I can't now with this new system. Most Bonehead move SE ever made IMO.
My point is, its still beta. At least wait til launch day to decide, because something like this we don't have full info on and it could change between here and then.
Then again, you already are biased about SE and how they "force" things on you, as if other games don't "force" things on you. It's called the game's design. FFXI had you work on at LEAST 2 classes, so how is this any different? Besides, you are probably gimping yourself in the long run if you only focus on one class. What if you want to be a tank, grabbing tanking skills from other classes might really help you out and give you the "perfect" tank setup you've always wanted. Or the same with healer and dps or support roles.
You see, that is where you are wrong, I do not know of any other MMO outside of FFXI that forces you into a set path like that.
In FFXI you HAD to have a sub and it HAD to be exactly half of your current level, and YOU HAD to group to get exp if your weren't a BM, and YOU HAD do tons of other shit just to be viable for your role. You couldn't be an individual of any kind, and you had to follow everything to the letter of what SE predesigned even down to the armor you wore, anyone remember a "scorpion harness"?
Now even in this game they are telling me how long I can play something, I pay for to enjoy. Like the poster said above "unless your planning on mining over 3 hours a day it isn't going to affect you".
Ok so what about those hardcore crafters out there (and they do exist) who spend 8+ hours a day doing nothing but mining, they can't now because SE just told them how long they are allowed to play what they enjoy.
Any game that forces you to take on a role outside of what you perceive as fun is a very poor game design.
So I will take your example, using old FFXI classes. We have a warrior, a paladin, and a ninja. And let's say I only want to be a Ninja, and I only want to do a damage role as a ninja ( I know in FFXI they were mainly used to tank).
Ok from what your saying If I dont go get some skills from warrior and paladin, I will be a gimp and unperfect ninja?
That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Classes should be solely playable and independant of each other. I shouldn't have to level up a paladin of which I detest and hate to play just so my ninja can get a skill that helps him. Does noone else see the issue in what they are doing here?
How about games that require specific builds to even be useful since have the other stuff is bugged or not working as intended? Take for instance, EQ2. I played a Brigand as my main, his AA's allow him to be a tank or offtank, yet you would be damned if you ever actually were able to do either of that in anything high end content. All games have some sort of requirements that force you to not have fun. I want epic gear but I can only raid that instance once a week, same thing and it may take 5months before I finally get that piece to drop and I win(or no one else needs) the piece. You think doing the same instances over and over and over to get one piece of gear is fun? Not a chance, but most have done it.
Am I against what SE is doing? Sure, but if that is how the game is running and it is to make it "fair" for all players, then so be it. More time does not equal win then, it means your just going to have to do something else. I would be one of the hardcore crafters I imagine as I can spend a few hours mining with no issue at all.

I dunno, I don't really see a good reason for this, other than to just slap people who wanna play the game across the face for wanting to play it. I'd switch jobs up on my own, I really do not need to be forced into it by some unneeded game mechanic. Also I heard they aren't going to have an AH, biggest dumb move ever, I hate games that lack AH's or that lack a way to search for items, it just makes everything to do with buying and selling be horribly inconvient.

Hehe,
If youre "only" spending a 'few hours' mining, I guarantee you're not hardcore.
You're probably the average player. I think they play only a few hours a night statistically.
