Which is too bad.
I can see how the conversation went in SE HQ:
"So, director, how far in development is the game?"
"Well, we are getting there, bu.."
"Good, good. Are all the features in place and functioning for release?"
"Well, yes, but they're not nearly rea-"
"That is great to hear. Are the servers holding up?"
"Yes, bare-"
"Good. Get ready to release the game in 2 months."
"That's not a very good id-"
"Silence, do not put your family to shame."
Unfortunately that means more waiting for me. The game is probably finished sometime in 2011.

last i checked the game was in open beta and wasnt released yet.
You do realize that the only reason why FFXI was "complete" for the international release* was because it came with the first expansion?

I think even the most devout follower of this game agrees it needs more development time. Doubt youll get flamed for that.
I was looking forward to it myself, but I'm just going to join at the ps3 release next year. No big deal.
So funny, still laughing hehe.
I honestly have no idea what precipitates some decisions, this one likely has more factors than I could name from other games releasing, to budgets, internal timetables, you name it. Still the feeling is mutual, another game that needs 6 months of release time before the average player could pick it up and play it without feeling like the game wasn't done yet. Maybe less, its playable but it needs a good couple months of polishing.
You talking aboutt FF13? Then one that they forgot to add the game play in between all the CGI movies.
Well the first three posts (all i have read while im typing) were all correct, and i also am waiting till ps3 launch anyways.
Its unfortnate you feel already that at release the game will be lacking.
That last line in the OPs dialogue is horrible, but hilarious. And off color is the best humour

Well...... it is a fantasy game afterall, so you never know.

Im surprised to see that coming from you as you seemed to have been following this game forever but quite a few SE fans lately been saying the same thing and I just deleted the client off my computer aswell, I too will play it again in 2011 if they have a trial that is.
game is still listed as beta not released so it is not unfinshed game.....yet...... but they could be holding stuff back till release.
IN THE FACE!
Probably be waiting till 2012 for that free trial.
AGREED!!.....prolly one of the worst open beta 'ready' games i've partaken in....and there has been quite a few.
They are holding some stuff back for release, but that won't alter Hyanmen's conclusion.
It's not a complaint about content, but lack of polish and, frankly, borked stuff.
Waiting for the PS3 version is a very sensible plan.
Oh well, got plenty of games coming out soon in the meantime.
If you made a game world with a bunch or lore and story behind it. Then you ripped out all that lore and story. Wouldn't the game see pretty shallow?
When is ANY mmorpg EVER ready for launch or considered "finished"? I think it's something that comes with the territory of being in the mmorpg genre and one I can personally live with because I find it fun to watch a game grow over the years.

I think I'll have to agree, if we waited until an MMORPG was finished, we'd never get to ever play one.
But there are degrees of polish that a newly released MMORPG can have, over the years some games have shown it. (WOW, LoTRO, Aion, L2 etc) while others have not (WAR, AOC, Vanguard etc).

Oh no doubt there will be plenty to patch before and immediately after release. The bulk of where the skepticism comes from is that this open beta is a marketing strategy (usually a fairly effective one), but it did much more harm than good.
I dont want to pull numbers from my rear, but a whole slew of people have been really put of by the bad beta experience and its doubtful they will return at a later date. It's really painful to see gamers shut themselves off from a potentially amazing game, but at the same time, I cant imagine what SE was smoking when they decided open beta in the game's current state was anything but a terrible idea.
Guys, it's okay now. They added in randomly spawning treasure chests. We can come down from red alert. =D

Chaos Chests in Final Fantasy... Scary stuff right there.
I think you are right. Updates are one thing and a playable version is another. Sure, the game will continue to grow forever and everyone is happy about it, however there are some serious things that should just be fixed before the retail version goes off. Just saying for MMOs generally.
Agree with this point as it shows a bit less favoratism than simply saying "when is any mmo finished", as we all know some develop very little if at all but certain standards certainly have to be met upon launch which is where so many games including those that you name on the less polish side go so wrong. Maybe I'm wrong but releasing a game that is broken or that can only perform under certain circumstances is the worse way to kill a game before launch, so many comments about how good games like AOC and Vanguard have gotten yet they can't pull in anyone now.
At the end of the day I have to admit I'm fairly surprised this game seems to be going this route, most of the comments I've seen on it have been negative and the defenders haven't even been very vocal not a good sign for those looking forward to trying this game.
I grew up on Squaresoft and Final Fantasy but truth be told since the merger it has lost it's luster for me and I've never played either of the two mmo's as the design aspects don't interest me either but I hope for the FF mmo fans out there they can somehow get this together.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
you guys are being far to vuage. I tried making a post, but the mods locked it for apparently no reason. Why is the game unfinished, be spasific for those of us who didn't get into the open beta.

I can understand people using this defense during closed beta testing, but when you're less than a month away from release and people are playing the demo, I mean open beta, what you're seeing it mostly what you'll get at launch.
Ouch! Coming from someone like Hyanmen who wrote such an incredible post about FFXIV! This hurts. :-/ How bad is it? Does it like content like Aion or WAR were upon release? Or is it a monstrous pile of bugs like AoC or Shadowbane were upon release?
This made me laugh... a lot!
I used to think that way, but I think such behaviour from the videogame industry should be strongly discouraged, their product should be pinned in the wall of fail and their developers should be publicly humiliated.
This is 2010 not 1995.
