I find the lack of armor and weapon shops as well as an auction house disappointing

So this may be the right place to ask this...I too have noticed the lack of new gear in shops, and obviously no AH. So my question is..where does one repair gear in each of the cities if doing it yourself isnt an option? I was told Limsa doesnt have a carpenter's guild, so does that mean I cant repair my own bow or lance? Granted I only asked a couple of people who may not have known the correct answer, or didnt know there was a merchant who does it...(is there?)

Either way, as said in other threads, there should be some level of guidance as to how/where to repair gear if you choose NOT to be a crafter. I'm not looking for my hand to be held; I played FFXI and loved every minute of that horrible learning on your own deal they had going. So...any ideas?

There is a repair guy in LL. He can repair to 75% now I think. It was 50% before. He is down in the area with all ths shops.

To fully repair stuff you need to be a goldsmith and the reapair item. Each weapon/armor has an item in the description that is required to repair it.

now this is intresting can you name me a mmo that has done well by this system.

tryed 1 myself and what a flop that was the idea is great but in pratice dont work from what ive seen in the past you end up with crafters chargeing way to much for items.

1 more thing are you telling me that takeing a an epic dragon etc with a full group and all they drop is a bit of leather etc what would be the point in it you might has well just hunt normal monsters for crafting.

ive never crated in an mmo and ive been playing them for years, i can understand crafting items to be better of couse but to have no other but that is crazy, so all in all this game is just a crafting game it will not cater for the adventure type player.

am i missing something here hope thins is not the case.

I agree that a crafting only game will not succeed, ala swg.  You have to have the adventure as well.  From what I've understood ffxiv is an attempt at a hybrid sandbox/themepark game, so it's completely up to them to meet the requirements of that classification.  Of course, the main risk with a hybrid is that you may not put enough content into the sandbox or the themepark, resulting in losing both types of players.  Let's hope they have designed the game well enough to mitigate that risk.

To give my take on some of your statements:

No I can't name a mmo that's done a good hybrid as of yet.  SWG pre-cu would be my closest bet, but they failed in the themepark content of the game.

There's no such thing as crafters charging too much for an item.  Supply will always meet demand, and if others aren't undercutting the crafters than they're likely charging a reasonable rate given the components to make the item.

imo, just because you take down an epic dragon doesn't mean you should get uber lootz.  However, taking down that epic dragon time after time will likely yield greater rewards than a normal mob.  Of course, when it comes to crafting components, trash mobs are usually more valuable than an epic mob, unless of course you're after an extremely rare component.  That being said I'm all for a big dragon dropping a ton of dragon hide.  That makes good logical sense.

Yep; no auction house is really problematic. Square Enix tend to do maybe 6-7 out of 10 things well/very good, but then they have maybe 1-3 things out of 10 that are fire the designers/redo completely/what are they thinking. It makes a Square Enix MMO such a contradictory experience; I really enjoy A,B, and C, but I really want to unsubscribe because of Z.
