Preorder are for fans,on this game or anygame in general. If your so eager to play an mmo you arent even sure you would like, you need to get a new hobit.
I will be preordering 2 copies becouse my and my wyfe are FANS of the game , i wouldnt recomend anyone to preorder any game at all. Those who do preorder dont need recomendations in anyway.Unless you have a QQ for having all collector edicion of everygame that comes out that is.
This game isn't living up to my own hype of being a more polished version of FF11,
Its hard to give the thumbs up on purchasing the pre order with the way the Beta is running. Crashing, lag, 5 menus to sell something. Ehh I just cant do that to anyone.
I was one of those excited about the game. I have a sticky thread on the FFXIVCore forums from over a year ago to tell you how into it I was.
After playing both closed and open beta, and following SE's announcements during and past those points, my answer to the OP's question is a resounding "No". I cancelled my collector's edition preorder.
I'm an mmo vet who can look past all the UI issues, lag, crashes, and what have you. My decision is based on none of those things. I played FFXI for years too, so I was fully expecting the same slow pace to the game world.
The real problem, it's the content (or lack thereof). As others have mentioned, guildleves just aren't enough. Whether you stretch them out by doing them in groups or not is irrelevant - it's just grinding with some extra xp attached. Same goes for crafting and gathering with their own guildleves. They don't add anything to the experience (of grinding).
The only other form of content is the storyline missions, which consist primarily of cutscenes. I feel like I wouldn't be missing much if I simply waited until after the game was out, then looked all the cutscenes up on youtube to see the story. You may enjoy the story, but once it's over...that's it. You're left to grind.
Some people enjoy grinding in games like this, I personally don't. If you don't, do not preorder the game.

You didnt learn anythin from ffxi aparently, they constantly updated it , there was never ending content. Its what made the game good over the rest of mmo´s.This didnt happen in release, or beta , it was added bit by bit and every now and then an expansion, or semi expansion.
I can understand why people wont play becouse UI, or gameplay, But not playing becouse of what you say is just unfair to SE .Give them some credit based on what ffxi is and how it evolved would ya ?.Is not like is a new company you know nothin of with nothin but promises, they have a long record of being so "proud" of exactly the never ending content updates.Already stated there will be a big updated coming every 3months, and small patches in between.
But if people insist on thinking beta / release = all there is , well, i will prove you wrong down the road.
Please dont bother saying how other companies who didnt had a record like ffxi didnt kept their promise to keep the game updated constantly, im not buying it .SE is SE and the rest is the rest, with all the bad and good.I think people would had learned that by now with everythin this game have done so diferent ( or stupid as some would call it ) in regards to mouse hardware, gameplay, what they call open beta, etc, etc etc. But DO give them credit for what they have provend they know how to , never ending content, a game constantly updated.
Just dont preorder , and wait untill theres more content, just dont go to far.Or do preorder, and start preparing yourself for the content that will be coming soon enough. You will never hit the barrier when you have done everythin or most in the game, the exp curve and learning curve is just to big to allow you to get to that point.
Anyhow your free to disagree since only time will tell.
Preordering a video game is a gamble. Just wait for the reviews and base your decision on them.
If i followed this train of thought i wouldn't even play video games.
??
I enjoyed Half-Life, Dragon Age, and Fallout 3. All of those games got over 90% scores from the majority of quality review publications. I fail to see your point. You play video games just to give game companies money for making crappy games?
What makes a good game, and what score means a good game is subjective. If we talk about % scores than why not play everything above 50% since thats basically avarage and everything rated higher is above avarge thus pretty good.
I said "base your decision" on them, not let them be the ultimate determining factor. You should already know what genre the game is in and what it's basically about.
Reviews often highlight which features are done well and which are lacking from a much more objective view than you will find from most open beta testers, in my opinion.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
I don't really recommend the pre order of any MMO. Most of the pre orders wont be happy anyways or have to play a few months of bug ridden mess.
I will do an exception for GW2 but that is mostly based on the shape of the first GW game at launch and nothing else, I generally think waiting a while is a good idea and if people did we should have a lot less whining threads, just check the STO forums just after release or WAR & AoC.

Notice that I didn't say "never buy this game", I said "don't preorder."
Also, it took a hell of a long time for SE to come out with additional leveling content for FFXI to where group grinding wasn't your only choice - most of their updates were all about endgame content. Also, don't mistake my use of the word content to mean new zones. I don't consider it truly new content if there's no activities to do other than grind there. FFXI atleast had some normal quests at launch to give you a greater variety of activities - FFXIV doesn't have those. It's unrealistic to expect there will suddenly be a variety of non-grinding activities within any short amount of time after launch.
Based on my OB experience I would/could not reccomend this game to my friends that are still stuck smokin' crack in Azeroth (wow).
That being said I'm a huge fan of FF. I can remember making my mom take me to Toys R Us to buy the FF1 cart for NES back in the 1980s. I'm a pre order guy and I won't be cancelling my order but how can you really sell this game to the dumb masses is beyond me.
Say what you will but I want the dumb masses to play. Gives me someone to sell stuff to.
I definitely think the gameplay, crafting, and level/class system of the game are pretty well done, and of course the graphics have to get a 20 our of 10. All it needs are more quests, instances with bosses, storyline quests, and probably some pvp and I'd consider it a really good mmo.
For the PS3 version, sure. For the PC version? Hell no. Stay away. I suppose if you have an extremely high end PC, and patience to deal with the UI lag, then dive in. But you won't be playing it past the first month.

They get the truth on beta no sugar coating.

My only current pre-order is CIV 5.

I have to say no, it is very unoptimized and has really bad mouse lag that they will not fix
Personally, I will be keeping my CE pre-order.
Would I recommend it to a friend?
No. Not yet.

Nope not for me and for the people i know

You're in luck, I only lie on Tuesdays so my HONEST opinion is to wait 1-2 months before buying to get all the bugs and balance worked out.
