10 days out; that excuse only works for minor things, not core gameplay issues.
Since when is performance issues 'core gameplay'...
I've played hundreds of MMOs, and most of the Final Fantasys, and putting the performance issues aside, I can say FFXIV is a great game with solid gameplay mechanics. Just need to fix the bugs and laggy UI.
Everything about the game can be found online, so I wont go more in depth. but this game definitely has a promising future with what it has to offer as an mmorpg.
The exp system, stat reallocation system, etc etc. are what I was referring to.
It has promise, just like all of the AAA MMOs that have flopped on launch in the past few years. I really do hope for it to be a good game, but I know better than to rely on that hope.
Hmm I cant figure out how the exp system is broken at its core, to me it seems pretty standard. except theres a main level and a class level.
Since when is stat reallocation a core gamebreaking flaw? I can think of alot of games that allow you to do that.
Something that is broken at is core is game altering, for example lets look at aoc. Melee have to pull off combos to do max damage but its hard to do that in pvp because everyone knew to just back up, Thats all fine and danady if your fighting another melee, but when a mage can instant cast for full damage there is a major advantage for a mage, that my friend is fundemental flaw at its core, aka core gameplay. I have yet to see any flaw in FFXIV's core gameplay. Everything I have seen is just nit picking because theres not a real issue that cant be fixed.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore) Now Playing: N/A Worst MMO: FFXIV Favorite MMO: FFXI
Sounds to me like your opinion of the game being shockingly bad is a tad overblown considering that it seems you can't even run it. Considering it is playable on my system which is comparable to yours but with a mere GTS 250, there's probably a compatibility issue going on unique to your system for it to perform so badly. Or, more likely, you're noticing the GUI lag the rest of us have pointed out but haven't adapted to it well enough to actually get to playing the game yet.
i can run it fine and it still sucks. too much farming. boring. repetative, nothing even remotely new or exciting.
I am running FFXIV on an Imac with Windows 7 64-bit (Bootcamp) I5 processor (2.66GHz), 4gig DDR3 ram and an ATI 4850 with 512 Vram. Everything on high settings and full screen and i have no problems, which i was really shocked at.
Yeah there is a bit of delay when spellcasting and it's not as fast paced as other MMO's but i will keep my Pre-order.
So many hate posts these days, no matter the game it's shocking. I honestly think that even if a company managed to put everything you wanted in to their MMO, you lot would still find something to tear it down for.
The best part about all of this is that people like this will eventually stop playing the game, or even play it at all. In the sense that I won't have to deal with it while I'm playing. Not that I don't want people to play at all.
I can't wait.
At the heart of it all, you are a gamer. Love the games. Love each other. Respect the industry. And most of all, stop complaining.

Don't worry there will be plenty of people playing. This site does not represent the community in the slightest. Even the doom and gloomers that say it is only a game for FFXI fans must not realize that FFXI maintained 500k subs over like 7 years making it one of the most popular MMO's ever.
I agree though I can't wait for it to be out. Could care less about people here being emo about it. It is how it goes here with every game.

Oh, I understand. I really have a problem with all so-called "doom and gloomers." I very often express how thankful I am that FFXI is, and FFXIV will undoubtedly be, a bastion for nice and well-mannered (mostly) people.
At the heart of it all, you are a gamer. Love the games. Love each other. Respect the industry. And most of all, stop complaining.
I would suggest that anyone who really wanted to like the game and think the 'current' version is not good or letdown (and who have decided not to play) check back 30 days after launch and then again (if required) at 60 days.
I suspect there will be a lot of surprises in store and the beta version will end up a dim shadow of the released version.
To the OP's point. The software mouse and the extremely unresponsive UI can give impressions of poor performance across the board.
In response to the comments about performance. I suspect there is some flawed methodology and lowered expectations.
10-20 fps isn't really "playable" in my personal opinion. As many have said we haven't seen the main content yet. 10-20 fps killing a bunny rabbit near a camp will probably translate to 5 fps while raiding a boss. 5fps will translate to lots of dead people.
I ran fraps to check my performance, it was displaying 30 fps. During that steady 30 fps period my game was definitely hiccuping with much much lower FPS.
---To reiterate
1. The games UI is laggy and unresponsive. This is likely due to bad network code, the servers being in japan, and lack of optimization. I'd suspect one of those will be fixed in 6 months.
2. Performance is shockingly bad for many. If you can tolerate 10-20fps, good for you. It is still bad performance. If you have an enthusiast/pro-gamer grade system, good for you. For the rest, performance varies but seems to tend toward the bad. Bad includes turning all the options off to get a tolerable framerate.
TL;DR. Wait for the PS3 release to buy the game. (either for pc or ps3)
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
I agree in that it's a shockingly bad game for one that bears the name of "Final Fantasy". But only to the westerner's typical eye. I'm sure many Japanese love it. Even if they're kinda angry at Square these days.
The game was never intended for us. It's strange, considering NA+EU MMORPG markets are way much bigger than Japan's (even individually each of those markets is bigger). But what do we know. SE has its ways. Too bad it's going to be without most of us. It's not for lack of trying on our part.
Yeah my problem with the game is most definately performance, im on a Quad-SLi GTX 295 Core i7 920@4ghz 6Gb Ram. and it runs terrible perhaps 25-50fps most times. The characters look really good, but the world looks mediocre.
Are you serious? 25-50FPS is bad? Half of the people playing this game would kill to have your "bad" FPS. I mean, the game has a 60fps limiter on and you can't tell the difference between 50 and 60 fps. Most of the time you can't even tell the difference between 30 and 60FPS.
Just recently I was running this game on a 9800GT, barelly pushing 20FPS and it was perfectly playable. I can understand your other issues, and I share them but 25-50FPS is great.
Personally I could tolerate 20 fps but that isn't my issue. The issue is the lag in the mouse and in actions. I have pretty good equipment so I immediately went looking to up the resolution and stuff. This was the first problem. Where is it? go into configuration and there are no settings for windowed vs full screen, resolutions, etc... After finding the config tool I set it to full screen windowed with everything on high. Ran the game and the mouse was basically uncontrolable. I'd move it and a second later it would respond. Graphics response was equally bad, trying to turn around or whatnot. All in all aweful. So I dropped everything to minimum, turned off shadows and dust and made the game full screen. This made the mouse move reasonably but still laggier then any other game I've ever played but it is workable.
I'm a congurer and then I went to figure. I clicked the target hit number 2 and it did nothing. I button pops up on the screen says ae, I click it and loose my target. Finally click my target, hit 2, click my target and it starts to cast... No fireball just a light effect and then repeat. I played with it ugh....
Everything in the game is like that... the ui is totally different then any other game. Things that should be easy to do are hard. Loading cut scenes is rediculously slow. There are no tutorials. Crafting is a mystery. Quests are like cards? wtf. And I've only touched the surface. I guess you could slog through that but in the background I was downloading lotr the free version and went and played that. Awesome game play.
wow these guys are gonna launch in a week? More like crash and burn in a week. This game needs major help.

It isn't hate it is disappointment.... I'd love to try the game but I just can't get started in it. The UI issues and lag are really hard to work through. Then lets also not forget the game crashing which was the crowning blow that made me just come here and post my frustration.
Honestly anyone having the experience I'm having with the game would be pissed if they paid for it or even if it was free. Even the beta forums seem screwed up. When I log in it connects me to the wrong persons account. Then when I try to post in the forums it says there is an unknown error. Seriously I've been someone named tiggy, and mortable on the forums.
It isn't like I have not spent hours futzing with this game, searching the net, etc looking for solution. Even went hacking through the install directories looking for config files or something I might be able to tweak.
I played ffxi although many years ago, I didn't have a bad experience with the game and enjoyed it. I have played most of the FF console games. So it isn't like I just don't like the UI. Not that I like it but I can adjust to most stuff if I can figure it out. I should be able to figure it out, I've played virtually every major mmo game released at least some.
From my understanding, this game isn't very twitch based, so I'm guessing a 15-30FPS is perfectly playable. It just won't be pretty to the eyes =P. Unfortunately I can't even get the game to start up in Full Screen mode without a black screen, so I won't ever know what my FPS will be
~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!
Are you talking about a black screen with the sound of the game? if so just wait. It takes a pretty long time to load. Maybe 2-3 minutes or more. I have that issue but didn't mention it since a little patience and I'm past it.

-Also another big problem I have with it is the responsiveness of the combat. Its like im selecting attacks in a turn based rpg. But the timers are all messed up and stuff just happens randomly(in my opinion), when i inflict damage it doesnt seem to register correctly. The animation to hit, the damage numbers, the swing times and death animation timing seems to be completely out of alignment. WAR, WoW, LoTRO, AoC didnt have this problem...
-Repeatable quests(or more quests) with rewards and xp would be much better then, 20% questing 80% grinding.
-Profession based classes are extremely boring to play.......
-The interface is crap, its menu based like a japanese console rpg, its doesnt work for a PC MMO, equiping gear and sorting items should be quick and simple.
-Talking to npcs, its classic japanese rpg right here, you feel alittle locked into conversations, it shouldnt hinder you from quickly buying items and quickly exiting mid conversation especially if theres nothing important to talk about, doing repetitive tasks like buying and selling items is tedious.
I honestly havent explored much into character development or storylines, the core gameplay is whats killing me. It feels like they intend this game to be too much like FF console games.
I am running the game on an Athlon 64 X2 2.0ghz with 2GB ram and a GeForce GT240 and apparently it runs it better than your PC. If I were you, I would get your money back because you got ripped off somewhere if my shitty PC is out performing your PC. Either that or stop lying about the game performance or your specs.
Bitching about repetetive combat in an MMORPG is like complaining that the sky is blue. It's what ALL RPGs are about. Everyone knows this. Go back to Call of Duty
I don't think you have even played this game. It is all about repeatable quests with rewards and xp over plain grinding.
Talking to NPCs is classic RPG. This is an RPG. Complaining about an RPG being and RPG is retarded.
I am convinced this post is 90% lie and 10% guessing.

its open beta YOU CANT judge crashing yET
Wow that's all you saw in my post... Sure in a couple weeks they might fix all the issues I'm having. I personally think most the issues I'm seeing are bugs and game flaws not something designed badly. But given that the game is in open beta and only days from release it should be in much better shape then this. I've played lots of betas and given the current state of this game I'm expecting a colossal disaster on launch.
I wouldn't say that it is a bad game, it has features in it that are good. My big problem with the game is combat, it's just not interesting and I couldn't play the game for longer than an hour at a time. To be honest I gave this game a lot more effort than I would normally since i'm currently not playing an mmo and haven't for over a year.
It feels like they intend this game to be too much like FF console games.
So... What you're saying then, is Square Enix made a Final Fantasy game... that feels like the rest of the series? That's dispicable.
Thats not what i'm saying at all, the UI is bad, and they resemble FF console games. I'm curious to the reason, wether they intended for it to feel like 'classic final fantasy' rather then making a more mouse/keyboard friendly interface. I think in many peoples opinions they could have made a much better UI.
They've stated that they want to make a FF game first, a MMO second.
So, you're pretty close when you say that it feels more like a console FF title. That said, I don't think it's a bad thing. I think it's a good thing that they're keeping it a FF game first... a MMO second.

Did you even read his post. His final line said this game is not fun.
Fun is in every sense of the word, objective. To me the game lacked the "wow" factor at all points. Maybe I didn't play long enough, but honestly I wasn't even impressed with the graphics, I think AoC looks better for my personal taste if I am comparing high-requirements to high requirements.
BETA to release will not change the "fun" people see in the game, whether they love the game or dislike it. So yeah, to the OP this is a bad game, to you its a gem only to be treasured.

I have a GTS 250 and my game runs excellent.
