Everyone that thinks the Asura are the "cute" little race of GW2 should get their facts straight... The Asura are everything but cute. Most of them are as egotistical as it can get. They care more about their creations than about others.
If you want a good example you can read the first chapter of Ghosts of Ascalon, which is posted on the internet as a "teaser" for the book.
Every game has some kind of "cutesy" race. To me they can either look cute or down right menacing, like Gremlins. Just depends on how you make them look in character creation.
They could have made them look just cute, but they donm't look that way. Often their eyes are pulled into devious looking angles. Some of them are not pretty at all. To me i think more stuff like this should be in games... why does everythign have to be human?

These two look pretty cool to me.. but they ARE only concept arts. Having said that, I do hope we are going to be able to make something similar in the game.
Hey, these do look cool. These look much better than in the screenshot shown by the OP. The neck is shorter and a little thicker in these.
Just imagine how fun it will be to kill them in PvP. A thought to keep you warm at night.

Younger as in teenager. I find as youngas 12 a commonly found in Guildwars. There are many games that I wont even try if they look anime or too cartoony. I won't play WoW because I hate the colorful art and I won't play AION or final fantasy MMOs because I do not want anime in my MMO. I enjoy watching anime and kids cartoons but that does not mean that I want to play that in an MMO. GW was pretty borderline but I really hope that I wil not have to run through hoards of these things to get to the next instance or go up against a dozen teletubbies in some racial faction war. It will kill some of the immersion for me but I will still play since I loved the first one so much.
I prefer the following over the other mostly because of the art:
Genesis > SNES
EQ > WoW
GW > FF
I must say that I was very disappointed when I found out that Vekk's race would be a playable race . .. and simply not choosing that race is not going to make me feel better. Those other pictures of them do help so thanks for that peeps.

I kind of view them as a whole race with a Napolean Complex.

Its "Signatures" each are independent, therefore its not outrageous at all. However I will cut out the largest of the 'Signatures' and perhaps it will be more to 'your' liking.

That's a lot better. Just your signature has no form. It is oddly shaped. All the images are different sizes so it looks weird. You're better off with the Signature of Pain doing the Chibaku Tensei. Thanks for trimming it. Looks better, anyway.

I am a rather manly man and if I pick up Guild Wars 2 I plan to play one of those little things.
I've always enjoyed playing the smaller races, mostly because I would rather play something in a fantasy setting that isn't a re-representation of the human race or something with very minor variations (i.e. Elf, Norse, Woodelf etc.). I also like the idea of "Brain over brawn" that the Asura live by, and find it one of the more attractive qualities in any of the races. I think we all like something we can relate to, whether it's actually representative of ourselves or just represents an idea that we can agree with.
I say keep the little things, every game needs a short race.
Final Fantasy games are the exception, I hate the little people in those games.
Asura and Sylvari are probably the biggest art design mistakes by ArenaNet, anyone with some taste will tell you that.
Personally I find Norn to be a bit tacky (too ooh-aah, if you know what I mean) and humans like they're getting their kicks from Milano fashionistas and are borderline hipsterish with the boyish looks and "attitude" hairdos...
That's 2 races I definitely won't play (maybe alts... maybe) and Sylvari are kinda neither-here-nor-there so we somewhat "agree" here.
I really didnt like those cartoony guys in the first Guildwars but I rarely saw them in PVP areas so it didnt matter but it seems likely now that I will have to see this kind of stuff while I PVP?

Besides they're better than that child race in FFXIV. It's like you go out into the world then you see the child being abused by a random monster.... or worse.... the child is murdering the monster instead. THAT'S wrong.
Asura however, aren't really like that. They look and are original, as they don't remind me of anything I've seen in other games or in the real world in general so it's nice to see something new.

If I were w GW dev lurking this thread I would give some unique emotes for the Asurans.
First : Drop Drawers - The asura points at the target , drops his/ her drawers and moons the victim. Since the game won't be rated M, the crack can be fuzzed out. 'Thats what I think of you, buddy!" says our little toon.
Next: Play Dead - Anet should give all players an option to set their own 'Downed emote". Give us a couple of emotes to choose from. Since Asura are going to be picked on, give em a bunch of death animations. The funnier the better.
Mud ball - I remember EQ2 let us run around throwing snowballs at each other during the Christmas Season. Give Asurans the ability to pick up a pile of dirt, pack it and hit others with it. An annoying high pitched laughter will suffice after this animation is done.
Temper tantrum - For all the times your team member failed to heal you. Why can't an Asuran vent like no other? Picture Alvin and the Chipmunks bugged out on speed and they just bought the collectors edition of APB and Mortal Online...
I get that people are baseing alot of there opinions on apearance alone in reguards to the asura. Thats a mistake. The asura are such awesome little bastards. I have 2 IRL friends who would only be willing to play this game if they can be asura. Not because of there looks. But because of there attitudes. Im tempted to make one myself for when im in the mood to be a total asshole. I mean yeah sure the either races can be evil or brutish and maybe even conniving and backstabbing, But no one matches an asura for biggest asshole award, even while being your friend and helping you. They just have a natural talent for talking smack in ways that just shut people down and makes you want to punt them if they werent so brilliant and likeable for it. The stewie illustration was very appropriate.
Don't the Asura get a battlesuit as a racial? And advanced technology plus magic? And a city with a floating obelisk looking thing in the middle?
Personally, I love the Charr. Non-human/elf race, awesome running animation, based on Roman AND Mongolian themes, Guns and a penchant for serving a hot platter full of butt-whoop to humans who had enslaved them.
But the Asura look cool, if slightly devious as befits a race with high technology and a feeling of racial superiority.
At least they won't have the moniker of pod people like the Sylvari.

They remind me of evil little versions of Tarutaru from FFXI, which probably 1/3 of the population played.
Lots of people enjoy playing them and i'm at a loss as to why it would affect someone else. I'm personally not a fan but i enjoy diversity.
