Don't the Asura get a battlesuit as a racial? And advanced technology plus magic? And a city with a floating obelisk looking thing in the middle?
Personally, I love the Charr. Non-human/elf race, awesome running animation, based on Roman AND Mongolian themes, Guns and a penchant for serving a hot platter full of butt-whoop to humans who had enslaved them.
But the Asura look cool, if slightly devious as befits a race with high technology and a feeling of racial superiority.
At least they won't have the moniker of pod people like the Sylvari.
what are you talking about charr were never slaves, they were the ones who slaved humans

I now must view my cats at home with great mistrust ...
I think your ascertain that a cute little race is an attempt to appeal to younger audience is just silly, I would find it more likely that younger players would go for extremely large "badass" looking races or extremely attractive races.
I am very far from a young player, and I have often enjoyed playing a little race, especially in PvP. but also in PvE (nothing quite like a "tiny" tanking a giant or a dragon) Though I do understand that this is a preference and matter of opinion.

if it tries anything then just kick it out a widow. its too small to enslave you like the charr
Of all the races I'm actually most inclined at playing the Asura. I always prefer smaller characters, whether they're gnomes or groundhog-things, whatever these guys are supposed to be. Either that or just regular old boring humans
These things and those little creeps from FFXIV really freak me out. I'd rather not have races in a game that, in the wrong light, can end up getting you on the sex offenders register. Just so wrong. At least halflings look like miniature adults, these and the FFXIV things look like kids and really, I don't want to be fighting a dragon next to a kid. It's actually one of the main things turning me off both games, I really don't like the style.. at all.

I know its fashionable to compare everything a guy does to child molestation. But if Asura make you think of kiddy fiddling, that speaks more about you than it does about the game.
I really didnt like those cartoony guys in the first Guildwars but I rarely saw them in PVP areas so it didnt matter but it seems likely now that I will have to see this kind of stuff while I PVP?
They look like creepy things that I normally wouldn't see unless I was babysitting some kids or something. I know that a large percentage of the GW community is younger but was it really necessary to have a stuft animal looking race?
I don't want to feel like I am playing a kids game . .. anyone else feel the same way?
Most of the cute stuff in the game is fine like the mini pets, etc. but something about those teletubby looking things creep me out.
Cute little guys... easy to kill... And then you see this giant golem battle armor coming at you on the field and crap your pants...
Asura being cute is just plain ignorance and stupidity. They neither look nor are cute. They look(from those art)menacing and have an arrogant air.
For me, I will probably play them any time over a human race. For me it just feel stupid to play a human on a fantasy game, I already have to play my humanity on this side of the screen.

I love playing humans in fantasy worlds. That's my most played race in most fantasy games. Not everyone fantasizes about being a non-human. You can still fantasize about playing in a fantasy world and still be a human. That doesn't take away the "fantasy aspect" of your fantasy. Make sense?

Im twenty-one. Not old by any means but Im not exactly a little kid and the Sylvari and Asura are two of my favorite races. And its not because one is super cute and tiny and the other is just strange looking at times. Its because they have two of the cooler backstories for any race in the game. Every race has its own trials and tribulations but the Asura were actually once greater than they are now in terms of technology and power. And the Sylvari are about 25 years old as a race, they are born fully formed from the Pale Tree. In a game that is as heavily story driven and intense as Guild Wars 2 the backstory for a race means so much more than the appearance ever could to me.
That being said, I do actually like smaller races, in PvP and PvE I like being the tiny guy with the Napoleon complex. I use to play Horde fairly loyaly in WoW. Which tends to not have a lot of "pretty races", Blood Elves are really it. But there was a single alliance race I would play, Gnome. Not cause it was cute really, but because it was small and I liked being a tiny race and they also had a pretty interesting story going for them.
So Ill probably be making a Sylvari and Asura at one time, and Ill be happy to march around with my weird looking toons and kicking teeth in. Hope I get to see the OP in World PvP at some point~
Basically they're Anet's ironic, parody take on the "cute" fantasy races.
The Asura are completely ruthless, sociopathic, immensely arrogant and borderline genocidal megalomaniacs. They consider other races as animals that are to be studied and used for their world-dominating ends. They used the cute sylvari (they are the only really cute ones in GW2, hate em) for scientific experiments (you know spraying chemicals in bunny wabbits eyes to see how red they get, placing them in freezing water to see how long it takes them to die - science in short) for several decades until it occured to them that it might be unwise for political reasons. The fact that they look and sound like a cute eastern rpg wet dream is what is called irony. They are hobbits squared with the soul of Sauron on a bad day.
I'll enjoy playing my Asura megalomaniac sociopath and I'll call him Napoleon the Destroyer and I'll make him a badass Warrior, cute as a peach and I'll paint him pink. 'Cause it's cool. Dig?
(p.s. I suspect that whoever starts playing Asura for the pure cuddly cuteness factor is going to get a really nasty surprise when he or she embarks on their personal storyline. In fact, I expect an audible outcry from the lore-uninitiated at release)
Read the post I quoted. Let it sink in. Let your brain process that information. The Asura aren't "cute." They're absolutely and utterly ruthless. They have pretty bad egos as well.
If you believe that they're "cute" then I have the right to assume that you're an idiot.

Don't worry, I think it will all work out.

Actually I think they will be played by older gamers.
Like someone else said I would bet the youngest players will be playing Charr.

I like a variety of races, as long as they don't look super-deformed.
It is nice ye
Personally i dislike those small dwarfs, they look ugly like babies
I prefer the awesome looking furry char xD
I guess many people are gonna do it like wow where taurens are too big and are targeted first in comparison to hard to click gnomes... Evil babies....
