The true answer is yes you can jump in FFXIV but you have to enter up,down, left, traingle, square, left trigger, down,up,right, circle,x and right trigger to do it each time!
LOL...but you forgot you have to hit 'start' at the very end...
If they can't be bothered to add the ability to jump in a game that is vbery console based, they could at least add a mantling type system. I found the terrain navigation in the game to be annoying at best.
Its an account that was made today, there some hidden motive to reviving this thread.
No hidden agenda, I just heard about it today, and did a google search to confirm this. I am a huge Squaresoft fan, not so much Square-enix. They still make great games, but even Guild wars learned from their mistake of leaving out jumping and swimming in a 3D enviroment with Guild Wars 2.
The one reason why I can see leaving out the jump button is because the world wasn't orginally designed for jumping and impleting it now would set back the game Months to fix any exploiting in the 3D world and for that I understand their decision. I just hope that they consider putting in the game at a later time.
It is similair to SWOTOR not having freedom in space, it probably won't be implemented at the start, but i'm sure they will add it later, But like I said its not game changing. I will still buy and at least try it out for a month. I already have one MMO that I pay a monthly subscribtion too, so the game will have to blow me away to make me leave my current MMO.
I just spent 26 hours downloading this game, was really excited, I didn't check to see about the jumping - I should have.
Personally, it's game breaking. Seriously. I was already frustrated just trying to get off the damned platform, sure it was easy enough - but for me jumping saves time over the countless hours of play. I don't want to have to find the stairs every time, up and down. It's annoying. In life I move over things, I'm not a crippled old man yet, and my ingame char should be at least as spry.
Because I read through all 15 pages and wanted to throw my own 2 cents in, Plus I read the rules of conduct and there is nothing about posting on a month old thread.
After a month old thread dies do you really think anyone cares about your opinion on the subject?
I do.
And I'm glad it was resurrected, it's a big reason why I'm not going to play this game myself.
Sorry to burst your bubble thinking you had a hold on everyone else's opinion, but you don't, stick to reppin yourself jimmy.
I don't want to have to find the stairs every time, up and down.
You do not always have to go around things to go down. If the ledge is low enough you can just run off the edge and you drop to the lower level. Kinda like jumping down. You could not do it if it was too high though.
Seriously, jumping is something you expect in a modern game but calling it a gamebreaker seems to much.
Sorry it seems too much, but with all the other options out to spend my time on, from pc to console, that one bit is tipping the scales for ME. I'm not going to buy it, sorry. Proceed to tell me how wrong I am, but I'm not playing a game that's being released in 2010 and can't be bothered to put in jumping.
I'm not playing the 'stupid physics' game. I'm a hero/warrior/whatever but I can't jump off a bloody curb.
Pfft, jumping aint got nothin on nodding. Nodding is very game breaking for me. How am I supposed to agree or disagree with the fence, or the mountain, or the little cliff? If i can't nod, how will people know i agree?
No I am not talking about thsoe bunny nodders who are constantly nodding at everything. Those guys just have issues.

Those are preset paths I believe, they set it up to allow that. A proper 3d world, especially as realistic as the one theyve created, really loses when they cut out simple things like that. That's why not many games, if any? are currently running sans jump.
Everyone can defend, I'm not saying you won't have fun, and I'd probably find some fun too, but I get pished when I'm having to run about in unrealistic ways just to get over simple objects.

Why would you even give your opinion on buying this game when I clearly remember you saying that you quit all MMO's for good and will be focusing on your talents as a editor.

I give up..they should just allow jumping, but make it cost 1 Anima point each time you do it.
