I got BANNED from SWTOR beta part 2

So, a week ago I came on here to bitch/whine about how I got banned from SWTOR beta.

Remember the whole discussing illegal activity thing?

I've had some time to think about it, and calm down, and I'd like to admit that I was wrong. The way I phrased things, I came across as an ignorant douche.

So yeah I'm sorry for using the forum to vent, I was so upset at the time and wasn't thinking clearly.

I shouldn't have discussed the game, but I'm glad I didn't post any screenshots or vidoes.

Actually when I was playing the beta, I just assumed there would be tons other people taking plenty of screenshots and videos, lol.

I feel like I let a good oppurutnity get away, and I hope that if nothing else other people learn from my mistake.

If you are in a closed beta, don't do anything that could give them a reason to boot you, including typing ignorant things in the in game chat/exploiting/ and generally acting like a fool.

Not that I did any of this, but I can think of one thing I typed to another player that prolly got me banned. I typed something along the lines of "torrented."

I asked this other player in game, if he had played Dragon Age or Mass Effect 2, and he responded that he had torrented them, and I said in an Adderall induced response "ahh torrenting is chill, especially when it comes to singeplayer only games."

So like someone said they must have had a keyword filter and I prolly got banned along with the other guy. I mean somewhat BS, but like others said, it's their game they can do what they want.

I'm sure torrenting is a very touchy issue for Bioware, and it results in some lost revenue. At the same time people who torrent stuff, wouldn't have actually bought the games they torrent in the first place. If they torrent something and like it, and there is replayability, most normal people will go out and buy the game.

One thing I'd like to point out is that, I think no one torrents a multiplayer game, you cant access online servers to play if you torrent a game, so maybe Bioware finally realizes this and they want to make exclusively multiplayer games, with SWTOR being the first step in that transition.

So yeah sorry for talking your ear off, I tihnk when the game is finally realeased a lot of you will like it, I know that I enjoyed my time playing the game.

    Makes sense.

    Good luck.

Hope you have fun when the game comes out.

    You said "torrenting is chill".

Does that mean that you think that it's ok to be a software pirate?

No wonder that BioWare banned your ass.

    Edit: typo

All those memories will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.

Yeah I guess that's a lot like just saying the word bomb in an airport. You got what you deserved for being ignorant. Take this as a lesson so next time you can laugh at the idiot who thinks they can say anything anywhere and then whine when they get banned for it. At least you were in the beta. A lot of people would have loved to be in your shoes, then not now. :P

Allow me to sneak in a light chuckle at the above quote. You're a funny guy.

That joke aside. If it was anyone other than Bioware I wouldn't believe you, but as we all know Bioware hasn't been doing too good in the Anti-Piracy part of gaming business. I can understand them throwing that into the filter. Though at the same time it does seem a little silly. I'm sure this is one of those things where since it's such a limited beta it's easy to scan through even basic and non-threatening words like that.

Big Brother is watching! Monitoring chat for the loss.

So I dont get banned here... cause they are watching lol, I DONT SUPPORT PIRATING SOFTWARE.

After spending money on a game that was a Terrible Port Job to PC, eh gave me second thoughts.

To the OP:  Did you ever get a response from BioWare?

Aside from that,  I don't think that it was the talk of torrenting specifically as torrenting isn't illegal,  its what you were talking about torrenting.

Darth - I give you credit for coming to terms with you error and admitting your mistake. Personally I think SWTOR will be out in a few short months so you'll be back in game soon enough. Also I've never been the chatty type in mmos. Usually I just communicate enough to function well in the PUG I happen to be playing in.

For them to ban you based on you saying use torrents to download software is laughable.  Many people say/type things, and it doesn't mean that they definetly do it, nor does anyone have direct proof that you have/will do said things.

    Here I will some statements.

I eat squirrel babies and smear their blood all over my face.  I am going to disney land tommarow and plan on riding space mountain.  Yesterday, I threw a rock through my neighbors 3rd story window from 2 miles away.

I can say whatever I want, but it does not mean I actually do them.

I beleive it is freedom of speech?

(I am just rambling, so my points could be way off, but they make sense to me)

Guess I should respond to the post at hand as well.  It definetly is good to understand your mistakes as to correct them for next time.  Just have to watch out what you post/say definetly.  Unfortunate though that you had to be banned from the beta, but since you have been banned, spill the beans!  (I joke because mmo mods will most likely edit your post and you could get banned from this website)

Also, there are probably a few people on mmorpg.com that aren't mods that have nothing better to do than nark on people who share information regarding a game in beta.  So just watch out for them too.

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

It does not matter if you say it and don't do it,  its that you are discussing it.  Freedom of speech does not live inside game worlds.  Why do you think many games have active chat monitoring that bleep and mute players if they dislike the language or content?

If this were a situation where he was paying BioWare to play it may be a slightly different story.  its doubtful he would have gotten banned,  maybe warned, or muted,  or they could bleep the word "torrented" or something,  but this was a testing situation.

I highly doubt you were actually banned for mentioning 'torrenting' in chat.

    And I mean highly.

Even if they had ridiculous chat filters for non beta-related affairs, the practice of using torrents is not illegal; there are plenty of legal torrent, even if torrents are a preferred way to distribute illegal and pirated material as well.

However, I'm sorry to say that I notice you don't really take the NDA very seriously, by just reading your previous thread.

In fact, the only things you are allowed to disclose are that: 1) You are part of the testing progam and 2) That there is a testing program.

So no matter how ridiculous it seems, you revealing that you were banned from the testing, detailing the email and so forth, is a breach of NDA in itself.

Maybe you should read that agreement again closely and really think about what could have slipped your tongue here or there, or on some website.

Maybe you did things a lot of people do, which are against the NDA: such as just uploading screenshots to third party sites like photobucket or imageshack.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

If take two minutes to think about it (yes, I know how hard that can be), you'd realize the massive amounts of money that game companies, such as BioWare, lose because of torrents.  Is it so hard to believe that they would take such a hardline stance on mentioning or advocating the use of torrents?

yah, yah, make lame arguments about legal uses of torrents, but we all know that 99% of torrent traffic is illegal.

Thief!  If you don't pay for something either because you can't afford it or just "believe" you are entitled to it then you are a thief!  I'd like to be able to afford to own a nice new Ferrari.  I can't so it's something I don't have.  Just because it's software doesn't make it any different.  If I walked onto a lot and stole a Ferrari I'd end up in jail.  Need more cash?  Stop playing games, go work and make some money and EARN the right to get the things you want.

Sorry, software piracy and myself... bad mix.

Just because he doesnt take something very seriously is not in and of itself a reason to get banned. He could of Not took it very serious but still followed the rules is my point.

What reason does he not have to talk about the game now? Its kind of like your best friend telling you some intimate secret . Then your best friend stabs you in the back and has sleeps with your girlfriend. You going to keep that secret?

Its like McDonalds...o wait that doesnt work here... darn...

The only difference between you and a thief is that you ain't got no balls to steal that Ferrari for yourself which explains your irrational frustation regarding this matter -  take it elsewhere.

Regarding torrenting - as long as it is legal for companies to false represent their products and sell them unfinished without an option for a refund, torrenting will always be a method of testing the game prior to purchasing for many many players.

This, its the excuse pirates like to use to make themselves feel better about pirating

Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"

Torrenting isn't about 'false representation of games' at all, its about getting something for free. The same people do that for films, office etc etc. They are all thieving shits

Also regarding freedom of speech, everyone has the right to say whatever they want, but other people have the right to take offence and deal with it as they want - eg games companies banning idiots from servers :)

I look forward to you being raided by whatever police in your country does and takes your computer and fines you thousands :)

Should police yourself. If you are doing something that is wrong (against the rules or law) and you know it, you should pay.  I have done and will knowingly do things that are wrong...but I won't cry about others "narking" on me. I did wrong..end of story.

    Are you suggesting coconuts migrate!?

I really love when people come with the freedom of speech thing. If I walk into a store and say to the owner. "Hello sir. I think it is chill to rob a store". He will kick you out his store and maybe even report you to the police. Same if you get into someone else there game and say that it is chill to pirate single player games (with is the main type of game bioware has released now!). Same result. Do not get me wrong, I am not comparing internet piracy with theft (Would only be if you otherwise had brought the game) however that is an whole other discussion.

Infact without reading the EULA I am sure it covers talking about illigal activity.

Only the goverment is limited by human rights, like freedom of speech. Private owners of media, like Bioware is if their servers are counted as media, can still decide exactly what is allowed and what is not in their media.

Freedom of speech means that you can go to other media and voice your opinions, and that government can't forbid you from voicing them. It does not mean that you'd have the right to voice your opinions in Bioware's servers against Bioware's will any more than it doesn't mean that newspapers would have some responsibility to publish all writings sent to them.

Bullshit, blah, blah against piracy...Yes, piracy is wrong thing to do but despite this it has a very positive roll in all this internet thing. It makes free publicity to that software and overall helped  all this internet things to grow up fast and get better and better. Every bad thing has a good role also...If there were no criminals, police officers would not know how to handle such a situation - the same here. Blame piracy as much as you want, but we all should thank to those who did it because our internet is better, giving freedom to chose. Also keep in mind that a soft can't be fully functional when pirated...it works, but you can't ask for assistance and many features aren't available (it's just a neverending trial). I don't agree with piracy, but I'm not shooting it also.

In short.... you have no idea what you're talking about.  Secondly, this has nothing to do with the conversation.
