I don't think anyone assumes you don't have problems when you never post them. Actually, I think it's the opposite. People likely think that you are purposefully holding problems back in order to keep the positive spin going. So they then post their issues as a counterpoint.

As I stated earlier.  I made this thread as a musing for the fact that it has been stated more than a couple times. That fanbois have "no problems with the game" and "just lap this pile of shit up" as well as just, "bend over and take whatever SE gives them." Where in that implies that no one assumes that I don't have problems with the game?

Moreover I haven't put any positive spin on the game. Period.

The kind of blanket claims (about a game, about other people, you name it) you describe seem appear quite often when people don't understand that the only person they really speak for are themselves. They really, really, really want their opinion to be more than just another mere opion. But it never is.

And why modestly express a considered opinion WHEN YOU CAN GET MUCH MORE ATTENTION SCREAMING NONSENSE!

Well that's because most people who play video games have extremely low IQ's since they can't understand no game is ever perfect. People already know all the different features they want in their chosen video game.. If we find a game that implements at least half of what we are looking for, then chances are we'll choose to play it..  Why should we have to make statements as to the things we don't like about the game? Some poeple do of course, but doesn't mean you have to.. If you create a post stating everything you enjoy about the game, but don't list the obvious con's, then people will just assume your a stupid fanboy because they obviously know there's problems with the game and your to much in denial to admit, lol. Well, seriously, let them think what they want..

My main concern is why do people feel the need to quote quotes within a quote within a quote.  Especially, why do you quote the original post in its entirety?  We all know what was said, and by you quoting, it takes up an immense amount of room and (not that you probably care) causes me to just whizz past your post due to me trying to figure out what you actually typed and what was quoted.  I do understand quoting sections so you can explain what your response is too, but to quote the post in its entirety just is a waste of space, though I do like when people quote and then respond within the quote with different colored text.  But then when other people quote that quote, it really starts getting confusing.  I did notice however that some of you do edit out some of the previous quotes within quotes, so no need to shove that in my face :)

As far as what was actually posted, people just like to argue and force their opinions on other people.  That also is what religion is mainly based around.  Forcing your beleifs on others, it is just how the word is sadly.  Also, givin the accessability of the internet and the ability to hide behind your computer where no one can see/touch you, people tend to be even more vocal and vulger on their thoughts.

(I know I have spelling errors and I really don't care)

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

Because not everyone starts from the first post and read all the way through. = I do. But not everyone does. So I guess people just leave it there. Or just don't care. =D I have no clue.

You wanted my time, so I played you. You wanted my money, I forked it over. You wanted my soul, I gave it willingly. Not to complain... but when do I get my end of the deal? And no, I don't want your flippin' carrot. If you can't do that give me back my youth and keep the change. Why don't you try chasing your own damn carrot for a change? I'll gladly hold the stick.

Because you totally read what my friend said right? I also stated later, that yes I did explain his question, when I asked him if he was seriously asking me that. And he didn't have anything to say about it.

So no.. that's not my beef.

I say this because this is an internet forum and you are allowed to express your opinions on such forms, so far anyway.

And that. is. fucking. fine. Jesus Christ! THE PROBLEM IS WITH PEOPLE SAYING HOW I FEEL WITHOUT ME SAYING HOW I FEEL!

I guess I never really noticed but there seems to be a white elephant in the room. People who don't like the game calling those who like the game elitist and fanbois, and people who like the game calling the people who hate it idiots, wowtards, etc.

While having a conversation with a friend via msn im he asked me why the hell am I playing FFXIV and that he had heard all this bad stuff about it. And so why I explained why those things didn't bother me he brought up the fact that I hadn't once mentioned why I liked the game. I replied that that wasn't what he asked me, and he said it was implied. See THAT confuses.

Are all of these threads with all this polarizing titles really for the express purpose of getting fans to say what they like? In my opinion no. They are just for people to express their opinions. However I did think about it realized that I never felt the need to ask any of my friends to play with me because I knew they wouldn't like it. For various reasons, because I've played with them and know their style. I know which of my friends value looks, which one loves story, which ones love to roleplay. But regardless I don't ask people to play the game. I'm perfectly fine making new friends like I have been in FFXIV and in doing so I don't mention what I like about the game because I personally don't care whether other people play or not.

Some people may say, "Well don't you want your game to do well?" My answer is, define well? As long as the servers are up, I'll play, and I'll find people to play with. I don't WANT to play with a million other people. And it has nothing to do with elitism it just has to do with the fact that I'm perfectly fine with the people that are there currently and I can deal with the game as it is. If you don't like it, that's FINE, I don't hate you, I'm not going to scream at you, curse at you, etc. But don't expect me to sit there and beg and plead with you about why you should play the game. I like it for the reasons I like it. You don't like it for the reasons you don't like it.

If you come up to me and we talk about... lets say fruit and I say I LOVE apples. And you tell me you don't like them. Why would I try convincing you to eat them? I'm eating them and enjoying them, you not enjoying them has nothing to do with me, so I frankly don't care. I'm not offended by your dislike of my beloved fruit. I figure that if someone says they don't like something then they have thought long and hard about their incentives and have come to that conclusion. Therefore if they are using sound logic, me liking it isn't going to change their mind.

I love this game, FFXIV, a lot. I enjoy it. If I like the game and you don't, please explain to me why I need to explain to you why I like it? Just because some people are really free with giving their opinions doesn't mean the rest of us honestly care. I don't remember being specifically asked for my opinion nor do I remember asking for yours.

I never feel inclined to politely answer a question when I feel that it isn't being asked seriously or it's being asked in an uncalled for and rude way.

I've never heard a FFXIV fan say that the game has NO problems, if that was the case we wouldn't bother putting up external patches. However, as fans we accept the game with it's flaws and trust that the company will work things out with the best interests of the community in mind. Why do I believe that? Because it's in their best business interests to do so. Is it possible that they won't? Of course it is but you'll never hear me say that when someone is backing me into a corner, because honestly at that point I don't feel the need to explain jack to anyone.

I don't think that how I feel is everyone and their mother's business. But I do feel the need to defend the game from incorrect information. I also feel the need to speak up when a legitimate thread gets derailed by hate. If it starts out angry, not much I can do about it.

There is no need to kick a hornets nest into a nice game of tag on the other side of the field just because you don't like the fact that they are playing tag and you want them to play hop scotch with you. Because they WILL hate you for it.

P.S. probably made a bunch of errors in there but whatever. Also this is obviously my feelings and mine alone. If other fans agree with me, lovely, if they don't, lovely. Honestly I don't see any possible way to derail this thread so knock yourselves out. FFA Forum PVP Go!

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    • I didn't state the whole conversation because I don't remember word for word but when he asked me why are you playing it, it wasn't a question, it was a statement. Because he didn't let me answer until after he said some other things. And when I did answer the question he didn't listen or reply to what I had said, so.... it proved my point when I had even told him that it's not like he really cares whether I'm enjoying it or not. He was trying to yank my chain and I wasn't buying it therefore he asked me what I liked and I still didn't take the bait. I didn't want to go into the delicacies of the context etc, because I didn't want either of us looking like jerks and it is easier to just leave that alone.

    • I don't find this a serious question. Therefore I wouldn't ever feel inclined to respond to it, because it would just lead to a I'm right, no I'm right, conversation.

Perhaps the negative results are being seen in various fanboi's remarks regarding other games...as a fanboi you have not seen em all i take it. Calling names only increases such responses. For example, WoW has the biggest sub rate to date and FF fans run amoke with wowtard and wowbe etc. Well yes kid, the probiblity that response will come back negative is greatly increased as compared to the "game is perfect" ff fans. If you like the game cool but to belittle another game when you share so represents the community and not one I want to be part of, regardless of how pretty the game is. Sure, plenty of trolls around on both sides. But defending the issues with attacks on other game players is not a good sign of a good community.

    Peace

I think some of the haters/complainers think they are doing the community a service by "warning" them of bad products. Or "notifying" the game developers of a faulty game.

In their mind, they believe that if they don't constantly point out any deficiancies, then nothing will be fixed. I suppose this would possibly work if it was on the game's official forum, but I highly doubt the game developers are going from fan site to fan side to help them with geme development ideas.

The other haters/complainers are just assholes.

I didn't say my side of the fence was perfect.

Moreover, this thread was not about trying to convince people this is a good community, or anything like that... even though you quoted my OP... I have a hard time believing you understood my point. It was a rant...

Kay I deal with this all the time with girls from work..  Just chill out for a few more days/hours/whatever.  TRY to really read/hear every single word, and try NOT to read/hear inbetween the lines (which is hard, I know) of what people are typing/saying to you.  In these forums, it's mostly BS anyways.  Plus, us guys aren't usually so emotional about it.   We (I) usually just say "lol okay then I'm gonna play an amazing game and you can miss out on it" and that's usually end of discussion.  My better friends will usually think 'what am I missing in this game?" and join me for a free trial/whatever.

People who sound like broken records (on both sides) are often just looking for confirmation about something, or are looking to establish themselves into some group conscience of 'hater vs fanboy'.

In the end, they're all 'fans' of something who are looking to reconfirm their opinions.

Personally I hated FFXIV and I would never enjoy a game like this, let that be clear. I bitched about it on the beta (as I should), I bitched about it once or twice on these forums and now I'm shutting up about that.

I worked in a retirement home for old people for a couple of months during vacations and out of free will. I have no desire to work there again or behave like some demented grandma.

    You tempted them.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. Original post is excellent, wish more people had that thought process.Seldom do we see a mature and well written post on any subject anymore and I couldnt agree more.Play or don't  your games for yourselves and only yourselves,we all have our likes and dislikes.everyone is differant when it comes to gaming so putting someone down or berating them because they disagree and don't like what you do is such a waste of energy and really serves no purpose.

I enjoyed the OP as well, very reasonable imo and of course, still manged to get loads of, even sexist(wtf) hate. hah

I think the "dems v repubs" is an apt point as well, where any debate is cut down to this "im right, your wrong" shouting match. It's fascinating to me how both sides can be so amped up, so rightous, and feel so dead certain they are saving the world with either their love or hate. Still amazes me how instantly a MMO launch generates these overwhelming emotional responses, are people just venting for whatever reason? or are they all really this angry at an MMO they aren't even going to play? I mean some of the "this game is the worst ever and it kills babies" type threads took quite a bit of effort... these people are significantly invested somehow in simply trying to tear down an MMO? yikes... it's a bit sad.

I think we all need to learn something from Jon Stewart here and his "rally to restore sanity".

"I disagree with you but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler."

That usually gets labeled as elitist, but I think I get it. This is a no win situation. There is absolutely no way I won't be judged and have assumptions made about how I feel regardless of what I say. And I'll just live with it.

Really? So because I'm a female what I say is now BS? Way to be sexist. It's 2000 and freaking 10. Do the world a favor and leave your cave.

I'm glad you enjoyed the read. Thank you for your positive comments. I refrained from responding to them individually because they were all nice stand alone comments, and I'd feel weird saying yeah, I agree with you. =D

One would think that elitist would someone that plays game only because it has 10-11 million subscribers, even though is nowhere near any great(or any good depending of what you are looking for).

Then they jump on every chance to smear that 'other" game that can potentially take away some of their mmo friends.

I really don't see any other reason for blasting game that is barely released , other then personal insecurity and fear of abandonment.

Because males don't manipulate people... right... haha. You, "made no reference to everything" I "say"... Yet you saying what I'm saying is BS. How is that not making a reference to what I'm saying? Please elaborate.

It's not a wall. It has paragraphs. It is long however. I'm pretty sure the point of a rant is to whine. I don't know about baiting.

I don't know about you but if you said you cared about something and I just waltz over and said everything you said was a bunch of BS and you were doing it for attention and you're manipulating people, I'm pretty sure you'd say something. If not, that'd make you a pansy.. Everyone has a right to stick up for what they believe in on the forums, we've already reiterated this a million times in this thread alone. You think I'm full of shit and I think you are being a bloody prick and troll. To each his own.

    Game on.

This is a good attitude to have, and I honestly don't believe that it can objectively be said that FFXIV is a bad game (unlike some other games out there.)

As for people who say "how can you find this game fun?" I generally dismiss that type of thing as nothing more than trolling. No one ever has the right to tell people what they should or should not find fun. Even bashers of Star Trek Online admit that there are certain people who find legitimate fun in that game, even if they maintain it's an overall bad game.

Wow! Look at all those accusations and anger. Wasn't I merely commenting my opinon of this thread, arent I allowed too?

You call me a bloody prick and a troll, then say "To each his own", so female of you, a walking contradiction. Please, I am no fanboy of this game, but your OP and continued whinning is just really bad.

But my original reply was not for you, it was for all the guys replying to it, I can't understand why, or maybe it's just because your a girl. Thats gotta suck.
