Since there are more threads that don't like FFXIV than there are that do I'll try to tilt the scale a bit. I just want to hear from the people that love this game.
What aspects of the game do you like? Do you feel that it is a major improvement from FFXI (If you answer yes then please please please go into details)?
Comments
You rarely see "like" threads about any game. People always find it easier to complain then to compliment.
I enjoy the game and would be playing it if I where not at work.

Let me be the first to welcome you to gaming then.

I'm very open minded. I honestly want to hear from the people that love FFXIV.
Most folks that like it, I figure, are busy playing it.
When they do a trial I'll check it out, but I'm not imagining it to be a game that appeals to me.
I'd like to mention that I'm not a fan of this game, and that I feel its optimization is centered around being playable on the PS3 and not a computer (for obvious reasons), but that being said, I'm also not here to piss in anyone's cheerio's. It's a good enough game, albeit a bit frustrating to manage the control and settings for during the initial play experiences. I am a bit worried by your title, though: the best game of all games in existence in your life? I'm not saying it isn't well put together, or that it isn't a quality MMO, because it's certainly better than a majority of releases, but I think anyone calling this the "greatest game" that they'ved played in their "whole life" is a bit naive. I'd think even the most die hard of fans would admit that you could find yourself playing something way worse that XIV, but that there are also other games that it cannot rival. Maybe in a category of "greatest MMO's ever played" I could see some individual's claiming this is their #1, but of all games? That's like ignoring all the staples of the genre at large.

Actually Everquest was the greatest game that I've ever played. It's probably because it was my first mmo. I was used to playing single player games before that. I turned on EQ and all of a sudden it was like I was playing a living video game. "omg cool!! if I wave to this person he waves back!!"
Anyway the title was named what it is with maybe a slight hint of sarcasm, but I just want to grab some people that love FFXIV and get them to tell me what they like about it. I've already stated my opinion about it in a couple of threads.
Good luck with that.
J/k
I just having fun lol
The only thing i like about is the thing i wish every MMO had. The ability to play every class on one character, which helps make a name for yourself. I'd rather do it SE's way in this one aspect than level 10 alts.
I like the multiple job for 1 character too. On some mmos I rarely see max level because I'm always switching to new classes to see how the other side lives. It makes it hard to keep in touch with everyone when I switch to so many different characters.
I'll throw out the stuff I enjoyed about the game.
1. Like the above poster mentioned, the ability to play more than one class per character.
2. No hand holding.
3. More mob grind focused and less quest grind focused.
4. Having to find my way around a new area (a temporary thing but still enjoyable at first).
5. No auction house (Personally I enjoy the market system they have in place at the moment).
TO the OP -- http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm -- That list has a ton of better games
1. Like the above poster mentioned, the ability to play more than one class per character.
That is a plus for every game, I must agree, and is probably the best feature of FFXIV.
2. No hand holding.
That is a complete illusion. Not only do they do too much of that, but it is the worst implementation I have seen of it. You must follow their maze of terrain AND they limit your levelling to ensure you dont suck too much at max level. More handholding than that they give you a bot that does everything for you.
3. More mob grind focused and less quest grind focused.
Devolution of MMOs. I thought we were over that by 2004. IMO it sounds more like "we're too lazy to add quests kill your way to max level.... with every class... oh and dont forget to pay us."
4. Having to find my way around a new area (a temporary thing but still enjoyable at first).
Age of Conan was the same way. Cool graphics, new areas to explore. Today it is spoken of as one of the greatest flops in MMO history.... like DnL which had the most awesome graphics engine. Its cool, but very temporary.
5. No auction house (Personally I enjoy the market system they have in place at the moment).
That is a matter of preference. But market systems are greatly advantageous to RMT companies and very annoying for those trying to find only 1 item. Basically, it's free publicity for the RMTs and having to search through an unsorted list for what you are looking for, but only a few items at a time, then u have to run 3 seconds to see the next ones.
With the exception of No. 1, your other cited reasons are some of the reasons many others are categorizing as problems with the game.
Adds a lot of credence to the term, "One man's junk, is another man's treasure," doesn't it?
Personally, I disagree about this comment. 'tis better to have Obvious RMT's than ones that hide behind a GUI in an Auction house selling overpriced items with obscurity.
That being said, I find the lack of an Auction house to be a step back in design, but I digress. That horse is long dead. Nothing to beat now except bones. Even the flies won't touch it.

What i meant is not necessarily the price of the items, if you want to pay 400g for crafting items normally available for 10g then it's your problem. By free publicity is the fact that gold selling sites can put up ads by selling a low quality item at 99999999g so you are constantly bombarded by them. RMTs sadly sell at honest prices now in the games i play, so you never know.
They gained a level in intelligence lately allowing them to notice that if the sell more items at lower prices then they will have more money in the end. Their advantage lies in botting/hacking to gather insane amounts of materials. In those games however they spam through chat, which in WoW (being 1 of them, the only p2p), is easily negated by having the badboy addon (havent seen 1 ad in several months), but people whining in chat shows they are active.
Really? The greatest game in your whole life?
Really?
The game is good, and has the potential to be REALLY good. The fact that it is pissing so many people off shows that it is doing something different, and not simply regurgitating the same old shit all over again. FFXIV doesn't do what many people expect it to do, so instead of learning something new, they come here and cry about it instead of just quitting.
Graphically its beautiful, some nice ideas. Beta was a decent ride mixed with frustration and fun. In the end though its still the same horrid UI that ultimately made me quit FFXI.
You have to level all the other classes right? You ARE playing 10 alts, just on the same looking and named toon. Don't delude yourself.
For me it's playing alts that are different classes--that have different play styles--that keep me playing a game for many months and even years. Is there any content in FF XIV that is class specific? Taking a single character through all the content would make playing any other character kind of boring after that. Approaching content you have done before on a different class though can present all new challenges. That is what keeps me coming back to MMO's as my preferred game platform.
Hit the nail on the head, ppl that are enjoying it aren't coming to the forums to tell us about it, they are playing it, those that are here complaining are either never going to play it and are just passing the time by Trolling and trying to inflate the issues that exist, or they bought it in the hopes it would drag them away from WoW and are upset that it isn't as easy.
I'm buying the normal edition tomorrow, played the OB and quite enjoyed the game, the mouse lag hit me and put me off but seeing as they now have a hardware fix I no longer have an excuse not to play, my guild already have quite a few new ppl joining us who are looking for something other than WoW or any of the other main stream MMO's.
There's also a group of players who are just interested in discussion, yanno? It's not always people trolling to inflate issues, or people crying or whining because a game's too hard (in addition to any other personal gripes that may exist). Some of us are actually cool with just talking about the negative and positive aspects of a title, and I think there's more grey area regarding this subject, that people here are posting for simple discussion without motive, than some of us would like to admit.

Are you fucking kidding me son? You've got so little to do in your life you go into a thread asking people what they like about FF14 and do a right up about how a guy that responds appropiately is wrong.
My pre-order only arrived yesterday and I was expecting the game to be horrible given the criticisms on the forum. Played for about 8 hours, I like the feel of the game and the combat/fishing system. I think the NPC's are more credible than in other games. Graphics are good, but my computer isn't good so I have the settings on low. And I actually prefer the UI to traditional MMO's, though I suppose if you weren't overly intelligent it could be a problem.
Hi
The game requires one to be overly intelligent?
Oh, my ...
You're leveling a separate class but that class is stronger and well rounded compared to starting an alt.
In Wow (oh yes, the dreaded wow mention), you progress vertically, using one class. That's it. You start a new class, and repeat some of the same content, and even have to level the same thing you did before (ile. you want alchemy on both characters, well do it all over again, in FFXIV, you level alchemy once!).
In FFXIV - you progress horizontally. You take one class to a high level, it also increases your physical level (stats, hp, etc etc). So when you start a new class, on the same character, you have higher base hp, mana, etc. You also get to use some abilities you learned from the other class (although less effective and slightly longer cooldown). You also get to use the same armor you saved from another class, so you don't have to buy or craft it all over again.
The biggest reason that this system is awesome..... you get attached to your character. Your name is one name and your reputation matters. No more getting lost in alts and 1309218310 names.
[Mod Edit]
Are you trying to fool yourself in order to justify wasting $60? Lunar: The Silver Star had a better UI back in the early 90's.
LOL
Intelligence indeed....
