If your dad tells you you get a free car when you get your license, do you complain its not a F40?

I did and I'm guessing Turbine's answer is probably going to be about the same as dad's was (expletives deleted of course).

I just went VIP since I wanted to check out monster play and unlock virtues without the shop and I have yet to receive my 500tp for subbing. Maybe we have to be subbed more than a month?

They put the second expansion back on the shop.

Honestly the entire cash shop is extremely cheap.

People only bitch because the think a free to play game means exactly that.

Haha, yeah because it is so outrageous that people expect a game labeled Free to Play actually means it is free to play.

They should change it to Free to Try or Pay to Win instead, that would be more accurate.

Pay to Win?  Do you actually play the game?

As for the label "Free to Play"  It is exactly that , if you choose to play that way.  There is absolutely NOTHING that a Sub has that an FTP can't get...for FREE.  It won't be easy, but it will be free.  You can now safely remove foot from mouth.  Perhaps next time, at least do a little investigation before inserting again.

Turbine for all intents and purposes, do not practice truth or full disclousure in advertising and seeing the article from this website saying the playing population is up is right but people are leaving as fast as they are coming after they realize f2p is only extended trial. Good try turbine you almost had me.

Im not sure I understand what your complaining about, you cant play the whole game for free or something?  If you like it just sub, problem solved.  Tell me what the difference is between playing a different free to play game that lets you play forever for free but withholds parts of the game unless you pay.

My point is there is no free ride brother....nothing is free that goes for F2P.

I played LotRo for a year in 2008, had a champion at max level along with a couple of others i was levelling and enjoying playtime of (i play slowly so i enjoy the game itself not max level race).

I bought MoM not too long ago before i knew/heard about lotro going ftp and was thinking of going back to the game for good, once i read up about FTP i cancelled my sub and uninstalled the game faster than a "working girl" drops her knickers..

specially when i read that unless i kept paying i'd actually lose a hell of a lot, including some areas that i previously had access to.

I don't mind lotro being FTP with option of subbing but i do disagree with how they've limited it so much. you can't even use your destiny points unless your a subscriber?? that part is really pathetic as they're standard and a basic part of the game.

People like you give people like me a headache, and i don't mean that as an insult. Can you lead me through your logic step by step maybe? For me it looks like this:

    1. Subscribers keep everything they had before F2P.

    2. Non subscribers get a ton of more stuff.

So essentially Turbine went from giving you nothing if you do not subscribe to giving you something when you do not subscribe, yet somehow that is a reason for you to cancel your subscription(this part makes sense since yoru a maxlevel and keep all expansion content) and stop playing the game. Huh? So sorry but you lost me somewhere along the way. Why not ... you know play your champion for free? And destiny points == TPs, so instead of DP you grind TP, just that you get a whole lot more for TP.

I am really confused by your post.  You played for a year and then quit...you were planning to come back and subscribe...then you found out that you would have to pay Turbine a monthly fee in order to have access to all the content you previously had with your subscription....therefore you decided not to?  Also you state that you would lose a hell of a lot unless you kept paying....that's no different than if the game had never gone F2P.  If you stopped subbing before the F2P transition you lost everything period.  Finally, you have a big problem about not being able to use destiny points as a non-subscriber, seriously?  All they give you is some temp buffs....who cares?  Otherwise destiny points are only relevant for monster play which is not accessible to a non-subscriber anyway.

Anyway, I've been playing since the F2P transition (never had before) and I am loving it.  I think that Turbine created damn near the best F2P system I've seen to date.  So far I only have one character to level 20, this is the only character I've played I didn't earn TP and delete any characters, and due to sales in the store I have been able to use the TP I have made to get the riding skill, North Downs, Lone Lands, and Evendim quest packs.  A single character can earn over 5k TP ingame with all the packs/expansions unlocked.  This is more than enough to get everything you want from the store (as you can see you earn more than enough TP by playing to get you to the next quest pack you need), even more so if you have a 2nd character.  Considering that I can potentially have a lifetime sub to all the PvE content in LoTRO without ever spending a dime it's amazing.  The only way I feel gimped as a free player in this game is that I cannot access the PvP, I know it's not a huge selling point of the game, but I would love to drop in and check it out from time to time.

i probably didn't make myself clear as my post has been taken the wrong way.

first off i mentioned that i don't have an issue with it going FTP, just the limitations on it for non subscribers, i didn't decide to leave ONLY because of it going FTP, i'm just not a fan of how they've done it and what i've read. the limitaions are too much for non subbies, call me daft or whatever you like but simply put i have principles and wether i was gonna pay for the game or not doesn't matter, it's my way of saying that it's been handled in a way that i'm not keen on.

    @Nephaerius

They are working on bringing the pvp to premium players as a unlock in the store. The reason its not in yet is for one that their beta showed their pvp zone simply can't handle large populations, and for another it would be horribly unbalanced as monsters start with level 65. Considering how long it would take a new player to get a geared level 65 to participate in PvP most would simply start a monster and they would outnumber the good races horribly.

So as i understand it they want to rework pvp first, and then open the floodgates. Also i agree that the F2P system Turbine chose is the best imho. I tried Allods, RoM and EQ2 Extended, they all try to sell you the same stuff again and again(like pricy gear upgrade scrolls or something, when you get new gear every couple /hours played) or incase of EQ try to corner you into paying for a horribly overpriced subscription.

    Edit: @Antaran

The restrictions on non subscribers are the softest in the industry imho, they are a outright joke if you ask me. And considering we are talking about people here who pay absolutely nothing i don't think they have much room to talk about principles. Also what are those limitations that you talk about? You mentioned Destiny points(which pretty much got substituted by TPs), anything else?

Basically my point was just that you were planning to sub, found out there were restriction on non-subscribers, and decided not to sub?  What would make more sense to me is...I'm planning to sub, there's no restrictions or changes to subscribers except a free 500 TP every month, I'm still going to subscribe.  I just don't understand why you decided not to subscribe when you were planning to anyway and would have no restrictions.  To each his own though.

I posted in a different thread about my GF experience.  I have a lifetime she is pure ftp.   She was able to get Lonelands, Northdowns and Evendim as well as the riding trait all from earned Turbine points.  Now granted the above quest packs were all on sale but she should be able to get up to lvl cap without spending a dime.  To me that is much better then I expected.  I was thinking to get to lvl 50 you would have to grind your butt off or spend a few bucks.  Now when she gets in her 40's we can look for a cheap box of Mines of Moria if there are still any around and that is alot of gaming for hardly any money.  I don't consider that a lie because she could grind the points to get mines of moria and it would be completely free.

About the same as limits on subs before release.

There also was not Cataclysm on horizon, DDO F2P model, RoM and Atlantica F2P games, EQ2X trial and others - like last remnants of LOTRO left to rot for pennies in bargain bins in the most dusty of shops. Lets not be ridiculous and regress back to dark ages.

To put it bluntly, the limitation on non-subscribers was mainly that they did not care about the game one bit.

The *current* offers are what matters and the are sub vs micro-payments and one is clearly inferior at higher price.

I have never felt lied to by the "game".  I pay 10$ a month for my sub, and I get 500tps a month with my sub.  So, I'm basically paying 5$ a month to play this awesome game and 5$ a month to spend in the shop.  Not a bad deal.

    VIP = Subscribers

Premuim = Freebie players that spend in the shop or used to have subscriptions.

Freebie = anyone who pays nothing to play

Character Slots : 5 for VIP, 3 for Premium and 2 for freebies.   Didn't it used to be 6 slots? thats 1 limitation to ALL players.

Quest Packs/areas : Eriador for VIP, Ered Luin/Bree/Shire for Premium, Ered Luin/Bree/Shire for freebies.   hmmm no north downs, no lone lands, no trollshaws, no high level areas for Free players or those that used to have access to those areas before. Thats a limitation to those that used to play the game before.

Inventory : 5 bags for VIP, 3 for Premium and Freebies. Inventory space should be a set standard no matter what account type someone has. another knock for those that used to play the game.

Gold limit : Unlimited for VIP, 5g for Premuim, 2g for freebie. yet another knock to those who used to have a sub, everyone knows that 5g means your poor (specially when i used to play on Gilrain).

Limited chat, Auction and mail for premium and freebie. i thought this was an MMO and they were aimed at promoting groups, specially when a lot of content is group play or raids.

rest XP is non existant for premium or freebies, fair enough for the free players but for those who used to have a sub or spend in the shop surely that says that they're regulars and should get something they used to get before.

1 or 2 trait slots per trait type for premuim and freebies.. now this is a big hit as traits were class and race specific before.

Destiny points can be earned by all players but can only be spent if your a VIP subscriber.. absolute rubbish..

monster play is not availible to freebies or premium players, used to be anyone with a freep above level 10.

community service is almost non existant for freebies and premuim players, again, absolute rubbish, you get this when you play FPS games without subs.

    1)  I have 8 or 9 character slots as a subscriber.  I got a few "extra" with purchases of expansions.

    2)  If you bought the expansions before the game went F2P, you still have access to them.  You don't have to rebuy them

    3) Destiny points and rested XP, I think, should be VIP only.  We need to feel a bit special  =)

    4) These I have to agree with.  I don't think traits should be limited for F2P and the customer support has gone down hill a bit since F2P hit.   I haven't even got a response to a ticket I sent in the day after F2P went live.  Of course, if you call, you get speedier results.

ViP characters already created and logged in at least once before dropping to premium have all trait slots unlocked, all 5 bag slots, and no gold cap. It's only characters created after the account is premium that are affected by the limits. You also keep any slots that came with expansions you bought. So you'd have 3 as premium plus 2 from MoM plus the 2 from the adventurers pack, giving 7 total as premium.

You also keep any Wardens and Runekeepers you created and logged in while VIP.

Unless Codemasters is making their own rules separate from Turbine, of course.

I didn't know that.  Pretty nice if I ever decide to stop my sub.

That's why I made sure to "fill my roster" on my main server and on a couple other servers before my sub runs out.image

So you'd have 3 as premium plus 2 from MoM plus the 2 from the adventurers pack, giving 7 total as premium.

You also keep any Wardens and Runekeepers you created and logged in while VIP.

I didn't know that.  Pretty nice if I ever decide to stop my sub.

That's why I made sure to "fill my roster" on my main server and on a couple other servers before my sub runs out.image

Yeah i made one character for each class now that im VIP for a month.

You cant go wrong with having Virtue unlocks for all 9 classes for free.
