They have been redesigned for fun, just fun. Go play, have fun, screw the experts who want to squeeze dps and nothing else out of the talent trees. Have fun with the new talent system.
rofl...there are minimal choices left in the talent trees. How does that make it fun? I guess if you enjoy being led around by your nose that might make sense...

Take Nether Vortex for example, a new slowing effect added to arcane blast in the arcane mage tree, it's added new volumes of play to handling mobs while stacking up the dmg per blast, combined with the new mana gem talent for some extra dps, which is new did I mention that? I had fun, shame you don't appear to.

The changes have added a lot of dimensions to gameplay for every class. The people who are crying thats its dumbed down are the very ones that now have to actually learn to play their toons and cant seem to figure it out. Hell, some cant even figure out how to tell when to train or use a talent point.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
I don't deny I haven't had fun these past few days, I do feel railroaded though. The talent tree's are all too rigid. Certain classes, sure I've been having a blast on.
Looking at it objectively, we have 7 weeks to relearn our roles before cata strikes, then maybe 3 weeks and 3-4 new spells plus a few more talents to add. Can't help but feel this expansion is gonna wear pretty thin after a very short amount of time.
That said, now is probably the best time for any newcomer to the mmo genre to grab a copy of wow, by time all the kinks have been sorted (likely before the new year). Levelling from 1-85 will be one very fun ride, theyve re-introduced a bit of crowd control apparently, so no zerging in cataclysm dungeons.
Its only us vets that really are not interested in another turn of the treadmill :P
This game has been systematically dumbed down patch after patch for a good while now. I'll never go back after the ez-mode patch that pretty much destroyed world pvp.
Before I go into that, I think it is a huge dumbing down of the Talent trees.
First, rather then add new talents that are decent for different things, they removed so many of them. This is a lot less work for them of course. Instead of adding flavor and choice, they are removing as much thought from talents as possible. Instead of looking forward to a new point each level, you get 45? 55? total at 85. Yes, there were talents everyone took, that's a given. But there were talents related to PvP you took, or PvE if you focused on that aspect. You could choose your spec as you wished.
Second, you are now Locked to a tree after pointing one point in that. That is really, really silly. You can't choose to level up using different trees. Such as, using the dps tree for a priest, but putting a few points into healing for when you do instances. Less and less choice for the same thing now. Instead of having 20ish points to choose from, you might have 3 to 5 tops that aren't the "mandatory" spec.
I agree the old trees were bloated with bad things. So they took the easy way out and just removed stuff and took away points.
it all sounds fun to me. but i havent played in over 6 months. most likely gonna resub after playing fallout new vegas for a few weeks. i think the new talent trees look great. mmos are changing/evolving games. the talent trees that are in place now are not necesarilly the same talent trees youll have in a year. just go with the flow :P
if you need to take a break, by all means. ive been playing off and on since day 1 and ive taken probably 30+ "breaks"

There really were not many real choices prior to this patch. There are still about the same amount, but there is just less filler talents.
This game has been systematically dumbed down patch after patch for a good while now. I'll never go back after the ez-mode patch that pretty much destroyed world pvp.
It's foolish stuff like this that make me think that people complaining don't even play. Instead of feeling like a very weak specialization at lower levels, players now can feel that they actually are specialized. When you create a character by now for this 6 year old game.....you have an idea if you want to play: damage, offensive support or defensive support. This was all there was to it. And with the introduction of dual spec (you know that major feature that allows you to switch specs on the fly as well as gear) you have two builds to bring to the table. That's your damn hybrid mode. But instead of some build defining the player as a hybrid class, his/her skills at switching and playing two different builds will determine it. Hybrid player vs. hybrid spec. You tell me which one is harder to pull off.
I swear you people don't even think about the chet spewing from your mouth before you open it. If streamlining talent trees to make lower level players feel more like the specialization they are hoping for and giving more clear cut lines for players who serve two roles with dual specs is dumbing down a mmo. What would you call a skill base system that automatically builds to the max level, that requires very little thought from the player to determine it's growth. Hit something, gain a skill point....yeah really deep thinking there.....
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
All they did was make specs more specialized, took out bloated talent trees, and just gave you the choice to be a specific role. They made the game less irritating by taking out worthless talents, its sad people complain about everything. The talent trees being smaller, to me =common sense.
The haters are some of the most ridiculous posters on these forums. A common theme is "I've never played wow, but it's very watered down and EZ mode." or "The content sux, even though I've never made it to cap"
If someone hasn't played the game, I really don't think think they should be commenting, good or bad.
People are seriously complaining about lack of choice? There wasn't much choice before the patch to begin with. Each class has only a few cookie cutter specs to maximize their effeciency in a raid group. Unless of course you're one of those stupid, selfish asshats who roll with some god awful talent spec just for no other reason than "it's fun guyz"....and could care less if you make everyone else fail. Then by all means go ahead and spec how you want.

I agree. It's much more fun to be spoonfed and told what to do all the time.

I wouldve liked to see blizz take 76 talent points, remove the filler talents, and make 3 massive trees that offer true customization and valid specs across board. Instead we got smaller trees and less points. This was done to make life easier for the devs. It wouldve been a lot of work making a 76 point system with trees full of awesome talents all the way down. But you know what, thats their job. Of course its their right to go the east route, but im not gonna praise them for it.

It is funny seeing people defending the changes to the trees. Blizzard is a game lobby company (Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo)... WoW was nifty and different from that when it first came out. They have spent the intervening years making it more of a game lobby MMO.
It is likely during Cata that they will just go with the subclass idea or with the next xpac.
Looking at the Warlock trees... I just had to lolwut.
Again, show me a better game and I will take a look. I want one of these hard, challenging MMO's I keep reading about. Funny how those that, never played or no longer play (so they claim) cant seem to stay away, be it ingame or on the forums.

WoW is the game I have subscribed to the most in the years since release. I left the Shadowbane: Throne of Oblivion beta for the World of Warcraft beta. Very few of the people I know still play like they once did, yet is an easy enough game - has the familiarity from all the time put in, etc, etc... so they will still return for a few months out of each year, usually.
Of course, I am the only one in my guild that has logged in during the past couple of years. I have not played since May. There really was not anything to do, so there was no reason to play.
I played WoW for around 13 months. I played Burning Crusade for around 13 months. I played Lich King for around 5 months.
The thread scrolled across the front page, so you are going to see people posting in it that never look at the WoW forums here. ...and I still have to say having just looked at the Warlock trees and going lolwut, I'm afraid of spitting my soda out on my keyboard if I look at the others. Oh what the Hell, why not?
Curious. Looking at some of the other classes that I have gotten to 80 and some of those that I have gotten to the 50-70 range; I do not have the same lolwut. Some of them look pretty streamlined along the lines of the FotM cookie cutter builds that became standard without the fluff...as people have said. Does not change that people have lost talents that they wanted. Blizzard could have given the option to select a subclass to go down a particular short tree as such or given players the option to customize. That would have been innovative and interesting...but no.
Still, had to look at the Lock trees again...and no, I will not play WoW with that garbage.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Exactly... WoW is for lower level players. With each passing year... WoW is more for lower level players. Nicely put.
The characters might gain in level... but the players get lower and lower.

That was about the most blatantly trollish comment I've read in a while. It doesn't advance the conversation or add anything in anyway. It's sole purpose is to insult the people that enjoy playing WoW while making the poster feel superior. Sad that some gamers feel the need to resort to this kind of stereotyping of an entire playerbase just because they don't like a game.

What Ramonski said? I know that he offered a pretty trollish attack there on those that are not part of WoW's playerbase just because they may have issues with the game, but I thought some humor and twist about on it may stop him from posting such things in the future.
As for not furthering the conversation? Excuse me?
With each expansion, Blizzard has added levels for the character while making the game easier for the player. Before Ramonski made his attack on other players, even he admitted this fact. Blizzard is making the game easier - dumbing it down further.
That is the very subject of the thread...
edit: Wait, I just reread what you said - you were calling what I said trollish? Are you kidding me? I was addressing the garbage Ramonski said with his attack while furthering the discussion in regard to the fact that WoW continues to dumb down the game for the player while adding levels for the character.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
Anyone who played this game in the last 3-4 years will know that there was only ever one viable spec in each tree for PvP and PvE. Come patch day and everyone would run to elitestjerks.com and get their new spec. So coming in here claiming that all of a sudden your "freedom of choice" is gone shows just how clueless you were as a player. So you want the choice to be a bad player and they took that away from you? poor you.
If they are really dumbing down the game, its so that people like you don't go cook up some stupid hybrid 50/50 tank/healer spec, get into to groups, wipe them and then blame others because you know your super awesome hybrid spec could not have gone wrong.
There are still people in this game who put one point in all three trees and progress horizontally while leveling. While this would be awesome if it were a single player game, so that your stupid decisions wouldn't affect others game-play. Constantly dieing to the first trash pack of a 5 man dungeon because your tank decided to spread his love in all the three talent trees and not specialize, really isn't fun(trust me i've been there, 60 odd "feral" druid with equal points in resto and balance)
I said "too soon to tell," because I'm a little dubious about the new "pick a tree at level 10, and then you can't mix in other trees until like level 70 or something" design.
But I'd need to actually level a new alt from scratch to really get a feel of how restrictive that is.

I have to disagree on their only being a single viable spec in each tree. I find it funny that you would state this while pointing to EJ (a site where there was usually a constant evolution of spec discussion taking into account what gear level a character was at, etc).
Would have to agree with folks taking lolbuilds into various instances.
Yet, Blizzard could have done the smart thing here and offered both subclasses or the opportunity to customize. Would it require some effort in regard to updating the RDF? Yep, for something such as the tank or healer - a person could only queue if they were in a subclass. In 5 mans, DPS is not going to be your issue at this stage in the game. A single 80 at this point could put out more DPS than a fresh 80 when the level first became available.

I was addressing the garbage Ramonski said with his attack while furthering the discussion in regard to the fact that WoW continues to dumb down the game for the player while adding levels for the character.
