There doesn't seem to be any surveying, any direct mining or gathering or harvesting, any tool dependency or factory production. And why would diplomacy, conducted by a character outside my control, play any part in crafting?

What's worse is that it appears that the skill element in 'crafting', which to me actually is important, is missing: "... those seeking Treasure may find rare items based on a random number generator..." Really?

To me, this seems as much a shoddy bolt-on with no relationship to the main game as the flight element.

Oh yes, Bioware, this really is the way to earn back your hundred and fifty million dollars. ^^

There is this quote as well: "it is a very robust system, and there are still some details that we haven't revealed yet which I know players are going to be excited about. I will just say there are some mechanics to it that will allow players who are more involved in crafting to really get deeply involved in crafting and be appropriately rewarded for it."

Yeah, we all know how credible the quotes of developers are when they want to sell a game but can't 'discuss details right now'.

You think this crafting system is "DEEP"?

You think the PVP system/scenario sounds "f'n [sic] awesome"?

Really? Really? These are things you honesty think about a bolt-on feature mini-game you don't control and a rather ordinary BG system that WOW was doing four years ago? Really? Seriously?

    Are you OK?

Go make the next revolutionary MMO where EVERYTHING is completely brand-new, then let me know. Charge me $200 for the box and $50/mo. I'd play it.

Look what we read about the craftign system sounds pretty cool to me. Wanna keep hating on tor go for it i cant stop u. I just dont really see the downside in what was revealed. If u got the same exact thing stated for gw 2 the same people putting down tor would be jumping all over it and how cool it sounds so its not like i can change your mind.

bioware wont change your mind its clear those who find a way to make this seem like another failure on biowares part are never gonna buy or play this game so why even post here anymore? I just dont get why its so important to be a bummer on everythign bioware releases.

Crafting sounds cool. the only diffrence in this and most mmos is your companions will gather nodes in the world instead of u. They havent revealed everything about crafting just some tidbits that your companions can craft and gather and do other things for u.

sounds very involved and also sounds like u will have choices on whats more important to u. They also mentioned an ah system so it looks promising that the gear u make can be sold to others.

From what i read of this on darth hater crafting sounds like it will be fun and alot diffrent then wow. Which isnt a bad thing to me. i cant wait for more info on this and the other warzones. The warzone video by the way on alderaan looked awesome. So im sorry i wont complain when i get some real meat from bioware on things.

I still cant wait to hear more on crrafting but what ive heard so far sounds like it will be fun and involved.

Thats kinda lame i  hope there are other ways to pvp then instanced bs, i could just log on to wow and get the same thing.... As for crafting, why would i want to send a `npc` to go get my mats ?? and then when they have them i just need to open a interface and click a button, and voila a new pair of shoes, wow this is really deep loll

i dont think this will be my cup of tea

There's open world pvp as well.

But if you want to keep on playing and enjoying WoW, there's nothing stopping you from continuing doing that image

They have stated their will be open world pvp a long time ago. And really? You enjoy gathering mats?

Bioware has already stated there are many forms of pvp not just warzones. wow. Warzones seem kind of fun. Look interesting. I for one hate world pvp but others like it. Im sure there will be world pvp in tor. If there is anything mythic was known for in there mmos its pvp.

And since most of the people who designed pvp in dark age of camelot and warhammer are working on tor pvp u can bet its gonna be more then just instanced warzones. World wide pvp was a focus in mythics other games.

Belive me pvp was never a thing i was gonna worry about given mythics history with it. Im sure they will have multiple servers at least 1 pve and one pvp where u can pvp at will . Even wow has pvp servers.

That's quite untrue. I am just concerned that some players are being led down the garden path by the paid shills - and, even worse, unpaid shills - who post on these boards. As such, I have no problems with asking questions, expressing concerns and raising doubts about features that seem weak. Just like you do precisely the opposite.

There will also be world PVP. This doesn't look like wows scenario PVP to me nor WAR's. There's actual objectives involved rather than points and checkpoints being the end all be all. From the sound of it each WZ will also have its own set of objectives which will be different from WZ to WZ.

As for your opinion of crafting, there seems to be a lot more to it than that. Especially considering they've said there's more info to come on it. AS well as them saying those who like to get really involved in crafting will have plenty to get involved with.

    Sounds really awesome to me.

Our own ships, crew, passive and active crafting, pvp scenarios that are immersive and have a real feel of what being in an actual Star Wars battle might be like.

Honestly, if it runs well and isn't too buggy this might be a game I could get hooked on.

It does seem symptomatic of some deep-seated anxiety in the Bioware, EA and LA Partnership making this game.

It is already known that originally and, in fact, until quite a late stage in development, there was going to be no crafting in the game at all.

Then the developers began receiving reports that a large proportion of their potential player base was unhappy about the absence of crafting which, after all, is a staple of almost every other MMO.

And that's why they devised this system, as a bolted on feature that doesn't iminge on the main game at all but which allows them to say 'Look, we have crafting!'. Will the majority of actual players be satisfied by what seems to me to be a shallow, not-player-controlled system? I am not convinced.

  • bigpigmybigpigmy Member Posts: 50

Anyways, I'm glad this game has some followers. My post seemed rather shallow, i was trying to express my feeling that the game will be eased down, gathering done for you and other things, instanced bgs, and yeahh open world pvp, seeing how other games manage their open world pvp, and seeing how Swtor is a *unique snowflake* im sur it will be a popular feature loll

I'm still waiting for the explanation of how button clicking to activate an animation in other games with crafting differs from this one.  Setting up a harvester in SWG is clicking a button and waiting for the pixelated item to respond where is the depth?  And if you have another game in mind that has reached that pinnacle of crafting explain what makes that different.

The point you keep making about the crafting is that "you don't control" something, where is the lack of control with a system like this in comparison to what we have now?  You click a button and something happens, the numbers involved from what happens and the steps is what adds depth to a crafting system and I don't see anything said here that would insinuate as you do that it is as simplistic as WOW.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

    For the record, I'm unpaid.

What I'm doing is quite different than you. You look at all the things the game is going to offer and complain that it isn't something else. You don't seen to see ANYTHING positive.

I look at all the things with they are presenting and seeing that with ALL they are offering in the game - single player elements, group elements, Goal driven PvP, Crafting, choices, companions, space, and a fantastic story - you're damn right I'm excited. I'm not a shill or any other name you wanna call me because of it. I'm a Star Wars fan, a Biowrae fan and an MMO fan.

Personally, I'm more concerned about the smear campaigners and libel slanderers. For this game there seems to be quite a few around determined to put everything regarding this game in an as negative light as possible, so much and consistent that you'd almost suspect them of a hidden agenda.

But hey, most people visiting and posting here have an interest in the game, nothing wrong with sensible criticisms and voicing one's opinion. If someone has a negative attitude by nature, not that much can be done about it.

Personally, I think the news release is a pretty good one. I'm interested in other PvP Warzones with hopefully larger than 8vs8 setups, and the crafting has me curious. I read people on the official forums compare it with machines that could be used in SWG for crafting, or the offline skill leveling of EVE Online.

It certainly sounds more interesting than WoW crafting, to me.
