It's interesting that while they will; confirm that the game is to be launched in 2011, they will no longer say whether it will come out in the first or second half of the year. I wonder if it's been pushed back?

Did they EVER say first or second half?
They said the spring of next year, so yes.
EALouse seems legit from what I've seen. His knowledge of TOR is spotty since he doesn't work on it, but I've watched some game info places where they talk to insiders and apparently TOR is having some serious problems and they've been flying people in from all over Bioware to fix it. Apparently the game may well have already been delayed more than once internally. This doesn't mean they won't resolve all the issues, but I expect it won't come out until towards the end of next year now so they have time to fix everything. This also explains why they don't get many details on anything even at about 6 months from release (according to what they previously said). They give very general statements because a lot of this stuff isn't really locked down well because of whatever these big issues they are dealing with are.

I wonder what it is that Bioware is perceived to need to fix? I also wonder if EA and LA will give them the time they need or fo0rce them to launch prematurely according to some artificial marketing schedule. EA and LA both have ugly reputations for doing that - KOTOR 2 is a case in point.
Anyone old enough to remember when Listerine used to advertise that it cured the common cold? It had the whole world duped into believing that BS. Ask a parent or grandparent about it. Anyways, my point is if you believe BS, because it comes from some corporation, well, there is a fool born every minute.

The guy at gamebreaker said he was talking to people at gamescom (IIRC) and the big topics were how awful FFXIV was and how TOR was having some major problems and they were flying people in to fix it. He didn't go into much detail about what was said but I don't remember if it was because not much detail was known (only that there were problems and people being flown in) or if it was just pseudo off-the-record stuff that he'd want permission before details were given. These weren't TOR devs mind you (from what I remember him saying), but they were other big people in the game industry who'd hear about this sort of thing.
As far as forcing them to put the product out early, I don't think there's any evidence of that. From what was said and the possible 2011 delay they are giving plenty of time. Why a project needs more time is an important element though.

If that is true, it might be some guys from Simutronics, who knows?

From what the guy at gamebreaker said, this wasn't some small side talk. It was the main topic of conversation after how awful FFXIV was among the professionals.

I believe tillamook was referring to Simutronics, the makers of the Hero Engine, which SW:ToR is built on. Perhaps Bioware is having troubles with it.

Ahh, I misunderstood. It was supposedly only high-ups from other Bioware groups being moved in, but who knows?

Yeah I heard that some folks in Edmonton are helping finish things right now.
"Blizzard is a group we have a lot of respect for. They do great work."
They lost me there. Blizzard and WOW are the BANE of MMO gaming. Period.
They train people to do menial tasks like faction grind or raid gear grind, they added nefarious things like inspect and gearscore... I could write a long list of bad things WOW introduced into the MMO expectations. Bah.

Disclaimer: I am a former WoW player
You seriously want MMO to be enjoyed by less people than now? You want MMO gamers to have even more social stigma?
While I got tired of WoW, you have to give credit to Blizzard that they brought MMO (a niche genre where having 500k sub was considered a giant) to the masses.
I enjoy MMOs (and games in general). Why deny the chance for someone else to enjoy this medium due to social stigma?

Did they ever have you at all?
A company can have a lot of respect for people and think they do great work, and still make a great game.
They aren't linked with them, but they do tip their hat to the current leader. Seriously, it's a common respect issue, it shows dignity on their part and saying we aren't trying to topple the king, we just like to be in his court. I wonder and this is speculation. If they had said wow was a disgrace (like that ever would happen) would you have praised them then? Somehow i'm not so sure you would have.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

I think they are scared of saying one thing and then being forced by EA to release that time because of it.
And maybe they are not really sure when everything is ready themselves, sometimes MMOs takes longer to make than expected.
As a technician I can vote for the fact that technical people are always careful when mentioning a timeline where people at marketing seems very happy to say the product will be done very soon.
I didn't expect them to comment EA louse, the Mythic department has been so cut down that it is bound to be many disgruntled ex employees there. The big question about the whole thing is how they can let Barnett stay (even if they actually made him shut his mouth, an impressive feat).

It doesn't mean they don't make a game that people love to play. Blizzard has crafted WoW into a drug that people love like no other MMO lol. There might be elements that you don't like as a game designer, but people vote with their wallet. I stopped playing a long time ago because once I finished the lich king storyline of quests, the PvE raiding got boring, and the PvP wasn't worth $15 a month. Plus the graphics are crap.

You are right of course, most of us are just upset because the older devs stopped doing their own thing and just copied Blizzard instead, and that turned the genre into more or less different versions of the same game.
It isn't Blizzards fault or the main stream gamers, but many of us miss the diversity the genre actually had once. Hopefully will it get back to that once again with the release of games like World of darkness online and Guildwars 2.

I dunno.
I look at LOTRO/WAR and other MMO and think, without WOW, would they have existed? Or even got the amount of subs they have?
Look at the FPS genre. Back when DOOM1/2 was all the rage, how many 'Doom clones' did we get?
But from it, we got Half-Life, Deus Ex which took FPS to the next level.
Same thing here I reckon.
I think TOR will be the next thing but I'm a massive KOTOR fan boy.
Yes, if TOR is KOTOR3ish then EA/Bio has me for life.

Man that guy sure got the 15min of fame he was looking for. To bad people are still talking about him.
It happens, however the more and more i hear about this issue, the less i believe this guy and think motives drive him/her more then facts.
I'm going to stick with official info which i've been pleased with so far. Thanks for the interview linkage.

That shows their target release date aka the release time they would like to get it out by which i think is where the Q1/Q2 part is coming from.
