Nope you dont, you just have wishful thinking and the ability to let that skew reality.

I know you think you are protecting the chastity of GW2 here and all, but you have to understand from my perspective how silly it is to see someone so loyal to GW2 that has somehow adopted the notion that a 2012 would be evil and bad, trying to lie about their sources, when I know my own sources are completely legitimate.

The best part is how anet are avoiding any sort of estimate on release date, and ncsoft is probably protecting that, but has their own projections for revenue, which are indicating 2012 as the big year for GW2, which for a b2p game is indicative of a 2012 release.

Even without my own sources, it would be pretty obvious that 2012 is the projected release date internally.

lol someone finaly uses unconfirmable information like you hehe always wondered what your response would be.

but in reality robert im no more inclined to believe you than i am to believe him and i think that is the case with pretty much everyone here. now personaly i believe 2011 based off of what confirmed information i have access to and i dont think anyone is going to believe you about your sources unless you back them up with some proof so its pretty much pointless to parade around saying that you know it will be 2012 unless you can prove it to us.

not saying you dont have inside sources but uhm i dont believe things people say unless there is at least a tiny bit of supporting evidence.

Thing is I don't care if people believe me or not, I simply state things from my perspective with my own sources.  But as I said before, even without my sources it would be pretty clear that they are gearing up for a 2012 release at this point, with projected revenue charts indicating as much.

mmosite is a pretty poor place to get info. From my experience they have given false info....

Edit: I just reread it again. It seems that the part that says GW2 is going to be in 2012 (the 1 sentence) is not in quotation marks. It's like they just added that in themselves. That whole thing was about Blade and Soul, nothing talked about GW2. Chances are they just made that up.

Edit 2: Also I just finished reading NCSofts financial  report and no where does it state GW2 might be released in 2012. Only thing about 2012 is B&S.

"When will we find out the specific benefits that the Hall of Monuments provides to Guild Wars 2 characters?

We will reveal exactly how the Hall of Monuments works when we're closer to the launch of the game."

    - Quote from a GW2 FAQ

Since the details for the HoM  were released about a month ago this quote from above could lead to the assumption that we are closer to the release than we actually think.

My guesstimation would be 2nd to 3rd Quater of 2011.

  • grimm6thgrimm6th Member Posts: 973

did anyone here really think that, if there was information about when the game is coming out, Anet would have told it to everyone in a way other than their official home page or blog?  Every gaming site worth anything has been trying to get the scoop and at first glance you should probably have dismissed all this silliness simply because it would have been a clumsily handled reveal of info by Anet.  This SHOULD have tipped a lot of people off that the numbers or dates or whatever people have been going nuts over had no basis in reality and probably had more to do with NCsoft than anything.  NCsoft has so far been very good about letting Anet set their own schedule (pretty much the only reason we are still waiting eagerly for this game instead of playing a have finished piece of crap).

Also interesting is that author of this article is for some reason talking about B&S and GW2 as if they are on the same timeline.  They are being developed by 2 different companies.

If I said anything that makes it sound like I haven't read the previous posts its probably because I haven't because I don't see this as being a story worth the time and effort to follow...  I just wished to convey my newfound distrust in MMOsite.

Edit: Also, There is NO information on when it will be out... and all this circumstantial evidence that people want to base guesses on don't matter because if they know when they were going to be ready they would tell us.  (when its ready, that is)

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

  • AblestronAblestron Member Posts: 333

they've told us time and time again that they try not to talk too much about any gameplay unless its fully functional and currently in the game. From that basis they havent even revealed pvp and W v W yet so its fair to say that the game wont be coming out for a while untill they talk about everything.

Even though its not looking like its gonna come out soon, I agree that they would update their blog/website with the release date and wouldnt leave it up to other websites to get the word around. So less speculation, and more fallout new vegas to make the time go faster ;D

This FAQ was released earlier this year (i think it was sometime in the 2nd Quater of 2010) so I interpret this answere this way that we will see the HoM details as soon as we are closer to release. Sure the question is what do they mean with closer. My guess is that they ment with closer that they will release more information as soon they are reaching the final phase of development. Which means for me  they more or less implementet their key features (combat, event system, personal story) and now working on the details. Since they havent released details on important features like pvp or social aspects like the guild system my guess is that it will take at least 8 months if not a year  till they are ready for release. The purpose of thes HoM thing was to get old and new players hyped for GW2  So markentig wise it doesnt make sense to release the HoM details more than a year ahead of the launch.

Based on your logic it doesn't make sense, but ncsoft has their own timeframe for GW2, and they may not share your views about when you should release info.

If they want people to benefit from HoM, and their games are very casual-oriented, it would make sense for them to give people plenty of time to get their points.  So that when GW2 launches they could shift over without worrying about GW1 as much anymore.

As I said before, you can only take what was said in the FAQ for what it actually means, saying they will release information when they are closer to release, does not mean that when they release it they are close to release, because being closer to something does not necessarily mean you are close to it.  It just means you are closer to it than you were before.  Now close itself is subjective, to ncsoft close might mean 18 months, to a fan close might mean 3 days.

I'd be surprised to see gw2 be released in 2012 to say the least. if it does then the marketing campaign will have been one of the longest in gaming history!

Since mmosite is notoriously unreliable and this was an 'announcement' (NOTE: We have no record of an announcement from any other site other than mmosite, if this doesn't ring alarm bells you are a very suggestible person) from ncsoft korea (not ncsoft west, whos investor call actually indicated a 2011 release), i'd place by bets on a mid-late 2011 release.

Still, if it takes until 2012 for them to get the game to their (obviously high) standards, more power to them. It's nice to see a company who are more interested in making an absolutely amazing game than sticking loyaly to a release sticker months in the future, come hell or high bug density.

please I would really like 2 play the game before I die in 2012, so pls release the game before then. i would appreshate it very much if you could do this for us

my dad works for Nasa and he says its true, a cat-is-tropic event will take place in the years 2012 and we will die like the dinosores

pls release it next year, thx!

I expect GW2 to be released around June 2011.. NCSoft cant sit on both of these titles for another year while posting loses every Q. They will be pressured to release one of the titles and it will be GW2 because it will offer a bigger payday than B&S.

    I have spoken. All depart.

I suspect the game is probably a year off from release.  If one looks at recent MMO releases that had significant unfinished content and their abysmal failures (AoC, WAR), they always had a lot of demo stuff to show off and yet never had the endgame finished.  The only thing that gives GW2 some hope is that they can build off of GW1, so it shouldn't be something from scratch.  I can only hope that the endgame is relatively finished when the game launches.

  • They will release it when it's ready.

No matter if it's in 2011, 2012 or 2013, I trust them to not make the mistake many other developers made and release something unfinished without enough content to keep players engaged for longer than a few weeks.

Grasping concepts and thinking the concepts aren't mutually exclusive rob. Also, notice that no other site on the entire web has posted the news MMOsite has (unless some have linked). If that hasn't set alarms bells ringing about it being complete trash, nothing will.

    Full details in that thread.

Blade & Soul is expected to release Q4 2011.  Guild wars 2 I believe has already had plans to begin testing Q1/2 of 2011 which puts it at either Q4 2011 or Q1 2012.

No he is right about the time frame GW2 will be releasing. Since NCSoft announced the mmo back in March 2007, the time frame is about correct on their mmo development cycle. He is also correct in that MMOSite is not really trust worthy on big breaking news either.

I'm Korean and I've been following up on the Korean news on the subject.

According to Jaeho Lee, the CFO of NC Soft, he mentioned during a conference call on Nov 4, 2010 regarding

earning release of the 4th period that the official release dates of both Blade & Soul and Guild Wars 2 are

not yet decided. He did mention that development is going as planned and that both games appear to be

finished and to begin service at approximately the same time. He stated that this will not be a problem

because this is a global project so B&S will launch in Korea and Asia first, and then will be available to the US and EU while

Guild Wars 2 will be launched in the other way around.

Both games will be showcased in the Pusan G-Star Show, the largest Korean game convention.

The show will start on Nov 18, 2010 and end on Nov 21. They will decide on beta testing

by analyzing the feedback they get on the showcase.

NC Soft is coming off it's 5 year game release cycle onto a 3 year cycle in order to gain growth momentum

and keep up with the reduced profit they has been seeing recently. They did not do well over the last fiscal period.

If they do change to a 3 year cycle, B&S is expected to start CBT in January 2011 at the latest.

The last article does mention GW2 anticipated to begin service in 2012 but that would be the official release.

    Conclusions

    - B&S and GW2 will come out pretty close together, probably just a couple months apart at most.

    - If they are planning to construct a timeline according to a showcase they will do in a few days,

they probably are almost done with initial development of both games.

    - GW2 wasn't such a big hit in Korea so naturally service will start in the US and EU first.

    - After the showcase and considering the time to put in a few minor adjustments, B&S will probably start CBT

around Christmas, and GW2 will follow closely, probably February or March next year or even sooner.

    - There is no feasible reason to believe GW2 will start CBT in 2012

My personal opinion is that NC Soft needs a jump start so it will not delay the CBT of either of the games.

They probably would start CBT sooner and maybe go through more beta testing than

try to complete it as much as possible before opening it up to the public because

they don't have much room to wait. If they want momentum they will try to release both games ASAP
