FINAL FANTASY XIV Free Trial Period

FINAL FANTASY XIV Free Trial Period (11/16/2010)

As always, we would like to express our gratitude to all players enjoying their adventures in Eorzea.

After careful consideration of several factors, including continued user feedback and the current state of ongoing development, we have decided to extend the free trial period an additional 30 days.

Today, we have also added a Topics detailing a portion of the content heading your way in the two large-scale version updates slated for late November and mid-December. This month's version update, tentatively scheduled for November 25, marks the first step in bringing about significant improvement to FINAL FANTASY XIV, guided in large part by the feedback you, the players, have provided. We are adamant that you should be given the opportunity to experience these changes firsthand before deciding to fully commit to the game. We encourage everyone to view today's post, as well as the previous Topics post from November 11 outlining the development team's roadmap for the coming months. Further details regarding payment options and future version updates will be posted as they become available.

Not remember that I saw a similar long offer like this before. That makes for me a save around  39 Dollars till the end of it. Not a abd deal :P.

Yes I know s lot of people do not like the game not that much but since I like it, it is a kind of nice news.

Wow. I can honestly say I didn't see this coming. Another 30 days? Jeez. That's respectable. Just in time to roll out the November update as well.

As bad as things were, I found myself asking if they had the fortitude and foresight to forgo another month of revenues.

    Is this unprecedented?

heh this actually made me give it a chance again.

Considering the aspect that the patch would be this week not finished  it was a smart move. One option would have been to rush the patch this week while the normal subscription works. Which propably would have leaded to bugs but at least the normal patch day problems that sort of create easy frustration.

The nice side effect of this move is, that tehy can finish their patch and amybe even offer the second one before the free subcribe does end. People get kind of happy for an other free month and maybe more forgiveing and will more liekly stay after the patch changes than right now. In other words in the long run this pays out for them as well.

I hope it soudns not that negative, it is just that it is a kind of winning situation for both sides and in the current situation a smart move. Not to mention the free marketing that will be created out of this.

Very interesting, they listened to the feedback so people will be able to check out the part of the patches they promised.

I have got to say that I am impressed. First, another 30 days is alot of revenue to forego. Second, they posted a date for the Nov update. Sure, they said tenatively, everybody uses careful wording like that. But it still remains that they dropped an actual date which, if they miss it, tenative or not, they will still look bad. Third, communication in general.

I really hope they pull this off. I still am having trouble imagining exactly how they will make this game fun. Perhaps its just me and I simply wont ever find it fun but here is hoping because you simply can't say they are not putting forward one hell of an effort.

    All die, so die well.

From the looks of it they're pretty hellbent on not letting the game go the way of the grave, albeit it was their fault in the first place. Seems clear to me they're trying to keep their dwindling population before trying to attract new members, which is the right way to do things *cough* SWG NGE

Holy crap is about all I can say. I never expected SE to do this. It's a really good start on earning back the trust of gamers as Wada hopes to do. This really shows the candidness of SE and I hope they continue. It occured to me that I will probably never like this game, but I must say SE as a company has earned back a bit of my trust. Now all they have to do is deliver.

Since I can't praise them for the state of the game they released I will take the time to do so for this move they made of giving the player base all this free time because the game was in such a bad state, maybe Cryptic should take a hint.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Good move so if i get tired of the game i can try it after new patches since i will have another month free.

I have to say i am impressed. They are not only openly admit everything thats wrong with the game and that the game is not finished (unprecedent). They put their money where their mouth is. In a sense they extending the open beta as long as it takes to get all the issues fixed the community has found (unprecedent).

I am beginning to suspect that they did not release the game to make money, they released because they announced a release date and they had to save face. Must be a japanese thing but i would not be surprised this beeing the case. Xlearly it's not about the money.

The amount of feedback and open dialog without any shady announcements or marketing blurb is not only refreshing but as far as i know unheard of in this business!

  • A good move, I congratulate them for that. It seems this game might shape up to become something better after all. I was really disappointed at the beginning, but it seems they have finally understood that they need to listen to player feedback.

they screwed up and released an unfinished game, so they fess up and give their supporters a tangible financial brake. i can respect that.

now get going on fixing this game and releasing  the PS3 version so i can start playing :)

What other choice did they have?

Give another month or..  game dead.  Not really a choice is it?  The investors would flip out and go postal if they didn't do something drastic.  Let's be realistic.

They need to draw new players to the game, not keep the ones that hang around after everyone else has fled.  To be successful they need to get people to pay the subs and feel that it's worth it.

    How do you work that?

Sub Acitvated -  30 days sub in box used

Free October Sub - 30 Days issued

Free November Subs - 30 Days issued

You dont get to pick and choose the sub, it rolls over so if you registered before November 19th you get free month they are giving now and it will be used instead of paying for sub

  • BloodaxesBloodaxes Member EpicPosts: 4,662

I activated account on 22nd October got 2 months with it and had to pay month in 23 December now with another extra 30 days I have till 23 January free to play the game.

If i'm not wrong in December or January there will be the first content patch.

They could do like Cryptic and say that people that think the game sucks "don't get it" and add stuff to the MT store instead of trying to fix things.

Wait...you have to play this with a controller?!?   LOLOLOL

"...removal of a Wear value for smallclothes."

woot  no more repairing underwear! woot the game is fixed!

    lol

Another 30days to see the "miracle patches" is great, maybe SE does have a shred of integrity left.

I'm impressed also but you're saying the game is in beta status? You were the one talking smack to anyone's thread that was saying this game feels like beta. Anyways I'm gaining trust towards SE and I'm playing the game atm cause the update plans look nice and near ^^

They can even make XIV free to play, I still won't play with current UI.

Well that can be helped I guess like for example right here.

Good to see them doing this, something huge gaming companys should have been doing in the first place. A couple months revenue shouldnt kill any big business unless they just arnt running themselves correctly. Most companys simply spend everything they can on making the game and try not to put much thought into the upkeep praying that subs and purchase will provide for that, SE obviously knows business enough to not have completly drained themselves based on one game. If anything this will keep people lingering around long enough for them to try to change the tune of the game and players, and if they can change the tune of the players they can get more.

Honoestly if this doesnt work out then I'm pretty sure the Final Fantasy IP will finally be done for, its been dragging its feet for years now and this was its big chance to come back. I hope it works out for them, I beta tested untill release and found out they were not going to make mouse and keyboard worthy of playing their game, maybe one day they will change this and I'll check it out agian, can only hope they stay around long enough for that to happen.
