Be sure to look up the "unofficial servers". I accidentally got on one of the unofficial JP servers and it is pretty hard to find anyone who speaks english. Hoping they offer transfers at some point.
Ive been watching this thread with interest and hope OP will post back on his initial thoughts. I too have hovered over the 'buy now' key on several occasions but get deferred by the negative comments. I know its not just people moaning as theyre disappointed after waiting for what should of been a prestigious title and as the old saying goes theres no smoke without fire. However the other half of my mind keeps telling me 'play play' and decide myself.
Anyway good luick and hope we get a report back soon.

I'm starting to think I should role on the unofficial role play server as role players always make it a bit more interesting.
I've found the RP servers on any MMORPG to generally be the ones with the most diversity in its community, also with generally a more mature community than other servers. Often there were also a lot of fun player created events that you wouldn't encounter on other servers.
I agree, I've found some really interesting scenarios just watcing role players do their thing.
As a point of note and confusion, I looked up role play servers for this game and found two articles that listed Besaid as the role play server as opposed to Trabia.

He's either that addicted to it that he's spending all of his spare time in immsering himself in Eorzea, leveling up all the professions he can get his hands on, or he's too shocked by the gameplay hurdles and walls he hits himself against, stunned to posting silence while trying to recover from the traumatic, soul scarring experience.

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I have been avoiding the game due too the huge amount of bad reviews, I have to see the game for myself.
I was a big FFXI fan and am disappointed on what I have been hearing...need to see it with my own eyes.
Maybe somebody has already pointed this out to you and maybe you have already responded to them but...
Why would you help fund a system that believes it is okay to release an un-finished product? Take everybody's advice and wait atleast a few months for re-reviews.
Sorry guys for no update, I actually did not get any time to play last night because I had go caught up with some work and was far too tired to do anything by the end of it.

If this continues like that frog propably gets a kind of cult statuis on this forum. I smell a market for selling t-shirts, an internet movement and at least 1 or 2 movies.
