Honestly I can't remember. I was born in '85 and having older siblings there were game consoles in the house before then. I don't even know if the first system I played with was the Atari 2600, an Amiga or the NES. Some of my earliest memories are playing on those systems but I can't remember the first time I played Pacman, Defender of the Crown or Mario, apparently the first time I played video games was before I could form lasting memories.
I do remember the first time I played Mario 3 and being completely blown away by that ageless classic though.
It's ok. When we're all old and decrepit like you we can talk about how Mario 3 was the best game ever made to our overweight grandkids as they munch on McDonald's newest sandwhich. Cracklin' Dorito Fat Surprise.

Mine was some version of Pong in about 1979, but not an original one. It had a few different options like squash and speed settings... my brother got it for chirstmas one year (fairly sure my parents have never shut up since about how expensive it was). I think it was called "TV Games" or something. Still had the paddle controllers... and a classy wood panel effect box. I seem to remember I wasn't that fussed about it at the time.
... I did however spend most of 1984 continuously playing Chucky Egg on a BBC Model B. That's when the video game bug really got me. Good times.
... in fact... a quick google later... here it is! It was called TV Fun...Jeeeeesus that takes me back.
It was pong for me too. My buddy had t and I used to go play it when I a youngling. My first big addiction was when Dig Dug came out. I would play it any time I had a quarter.
I was always kind of lucky as a child. I got the love of video games from my mother. We got an Atari 2600 when it came out and my mom kept all the new consoles from that point on. I remember Pac-Man came out on the Atari and I went to bed around 9PM. My mother woke me up for school the next morning with this "Wake up. I just turned the score in Pac-Man over." I think you had to have a million points to do that. She played all through the night. Now I play them with my kids.
Well I don't know which I played first, but the 3 earliest games I played was Centipede, Asteroid, and some game where you play a little white airplane and you shoot down little red, yellow and black airplanes, in a maze like thing, I'm sure someone knows what I'm talking about.
If I remember right it was Pac Man...I was probably 4...
There was this little sandwich shop around the corner from where my mom and I lived when I was really little...it was the stand up arcade version...it was already pretty dated by this time but it was really the only video game I had any contact with at that age.
Man, how I use to love when my mom would be like "I'm gonna get a sandwich...here, have a quarter and stay outta my way."
...memories *sighs*

Mmm, probably some variation of Pong. Later I got an atari 2600 with combat, asteroids, etc. Very simple games, but fun to play.
