Spending 70 bucks on a closed beta key is silly. Very silly.
it is indeed and I dont agree with selling them...but if people reallllyy wanna try before play instead of testing the game or are HARDCORE game testers than its a price anyone will be willing to play....
I can see Rift going crazy with VIP's next week and the day before launch....they will just force you to take a VIP key....cause I read that post somewhere they only have 30,000 ppl registered so far...and "isn't enough"......I was like okayyyy

I find it's promising that they are so confident in their product that they want this massive amount of people for closed beta. Other games that have been promising and/or are promising right now are more restrictive with their beta invites.
They've said they already did most the testing in Alpha, so they are thinking the closed beta as more of a stress test.
so if say 30,000 are all registered so far....why not another 30k than when the servers crash and burn cause the hamster can't handle the stress we'll lose a day of testing and it'll be back up on saturday
Rift's Beta is more for Stress testing and Marketing than testing. There is a group of Alpha testers who have been play testing and debugging the game for some time now. Trion is using the term Beta different from what many of us have used it for past pre-launch testing.

Been refreshing all day, but i'm about to leave for some thanksgiving leftover's with my parents... so, the good news for you is that the keys are sure to come in the next couple hours while i'm away!

Our beta is for stress testing. And I have said many times that beta is also for marketing. Sure we'd all like to think marketing has nothing to do with it. But it does. There are less than 30k people on this forum right now. That's not enough to support any MMO. So our marketing team is using beta to get us some attention and get more people looking at Rift. That's their job. If they don't get the word out and get sales for the game, none of us get to enjoy Rift.

Sweet, thanks! Maybe this game will actually have a smooth launch, a rare thing.
I don't think I've ever seen an MMO start off smoothly. But the concept of "smoothly" might be up for interpretation.
I guess I meant smoothly in a relative sort of way.
