Ridiculous VIP key giveaway and obvious bots
I just happened to be watching and hitting refresh for a minute at the exact time it went live. This is what happened:
News page had nothing, hit refresh, news page had nothing, hit refresh about 3 seconds later one last time before hitting up the water fountain and the following occured:
1) Error: Deadlock
2) Refresh
3) 1-2 minutes of nothing
4) See the posts and i'm on page 15, but there are already 18 pages
5) Hit reply
6) Type Key and hit post
7) There I am on page 21 or so, #192 ish
This was as optimal as a normal user could have it. There was at most a 3 second delay between my refresh and the post going up. Look back at the first 191, and there are a majority 1 post users. There are probably bots, and probably many from the same person.
This contest is now impossible for normal people, and almost entirely impossible for actual users of this site who have posted here and will post in the future.
Something should be done about this. These 1 post bots should not be winning these. There are already tons of them sprouting up for sale. This just isn't being run smoothly. Good intentions, ruined by asshats, not MMORPG.com's fault, but you could do something like not give these tools keys. Require registration by 11/20, require 10+ posts.
This is just a bit ridiculous.

I saw two pages of generic user names with account made today or yesterday with 1 post and assumed way more than there were. I couldn't check them all cause of the lag on the post, but now I see a lot of legit people got keys so grats.

lol...more than a bit...I was out-botted on APB, and now on mmorpg.com.
I refreshed,saw it with zero posts,typed my reply,sended it,and i was 30#,all of that happpened in 20 seconds.
No bots,just a LOT of people.
I got one yesterday but today was crazy. I think the one who posted first today posted first yesterday aswell. A little bit SUSPICIOUS

I agree some are bots. But there are others that have been members for several years and it just happens to be there first post. I also think some of these other website offering these VIP are getting them from these contest sense trion didn't actually issue them VIP codes.
I agree, i remember when MMORPG contests used to be over several days and you got 1 entry per login up to twice a day and then it was a random drawing. None of this random time, hope you refresh page at the EXACT moment and get a "I want" post in.

I agree,90% of the replys where from people with 1 or 2 posts.

However,this system gives a chance to everyone,so it's not bad IMO.
I was 7 and didn;t do anything but refresh. Try again next time. You can really win.

i started my reply when there were 9 posts, managed to get in at 58, just a ton of people i think

I was doing the exact same thing, had the exact same result (but at least I made it to #156 or something...) Just a bunch of people all at once bogging the system down. It took so long just to get the reply screen up by the time I took the 3 seconds to type a reply and hit enter, it was already to late.
Even after I hit enter, the site crashed on me, and I wasn't even sure it posted.

site just hanged at 3:25-3:26 then news article appeared and then another hang...
and most messages are from 1-2 day members and 1-3 posts (just for contest).
It s f n bs. 3rd day I ve missed it because some people can sit here all day and stare at a screen. God forbid I have to go to the bathroom.
It's was a wee bit silly, I clicked the thread and hit reply as soon as it came up and I'm on a 6mb connection. By the time I actually could reply due to server traffic I was on page 18. and at least 30% of all the posts are members who joined on 11/24, 11/23, 11/22. That is a bit silly.
I was refhresing since 3 PM, but i got tired, so I took a dump in my bathrom, I come back and the post is up!! I freaked!!! I was as fast as Flash!!! Posted quickly and was one of the early posters

Well by the time it showed up on the front page under 'News' there were already 200-300 posts. It probably took 1-2 minutes to hit over the 300 mark. I noticed the delay between the news forum and the main page earlier today so I just refreshed that. I ignored the main page.
I guess there could be enough people refreshing it to make it seem like bots, and that is cool. Maybe just mass hype and a crapload of people.
I came off a bit angry, and i'm not so sorry about that in OP. Just think it's a bit ridiculous. Usually sites reward membership or have some way of curbing things like this. After day 1 of people finding out that no posts and a new user could come back day after day brought in the crowds when all the other sites who got to give out 500 keys did it in one surprise post.
Whatever though, just saying it is a bit off.
Anyone who thinks they can check in every hour or twenty minutes or even five minutes shouldn't get their hopes up. This was what happened to me when I happened to check 3 seconds after it went up.
I call BS i SIT H yesterday and today and refreshed the whole time and teh server lagged and timed out so many times and I got 130 .... both times I got a tad over 100... you just got lucky if you got it, people are making new ccounts should not count as I seen so many ... BOTS they will sell the keys as they already are and not test the game
THis is why games are trash sites like this give to cheaters... Its sad I wont waste my time for teh next 2 days as the bots will get them aways... you cant be any faster then someone hitting F5 every 10 seconds for hrs...
I'd agree with limiting it to only people with X amount of posts. That being said, I was F5 humping it since 3pm EST and got in at #87 as the site imploded. No bot action, just campy

I was refreshing the news page periodically whilst browsing around in other tabs. By sheer luck i went and refreshed just as the thread was posted, there were actually no replys in it when I clicked through and my post went in at position 10. In retrospect the chances of getting it were minimal at best - just a sheer fluke i refreshed when i did, had i been even 30secs later id have been too late.

it for sure were crazy, hitted the post as soon I saw it and well hadnt loaded the thread before it had 7 pages, and obvious were too late
meh whislt a VIP key woudl be nice I'm nto gonna cry about not getting one...I'll get to try the game eventually one way or another but my life is nto gonna end by not getting in the closed beta events.
Everyone should get keys that are above the Admin cutting it off...bottom line is i am sure he tried to put that message in as everyone else was and this just shows you that they need a server upgrade. Honestly 2k people puts your site to a 2 to 3 minute load time? Seriously??? Wow.....
Yeah I was off today and thought maybe I had a chance. Had my laptop next to me all day refreshing every 30 seconds or so so I could get one... refreshed and it said it had been posted for 8 mins... dont think I'll get one now after refreshing since 10 am, its about 3 o clock now.. sad really lol
