Well, I guess I'm out then cuz they post it during my work hours, and I work in a room with tight security, and cant use my phone. My stupid lazy brother who doesnt work and sleeps all day doesnt wanna try and get the beta key too. Oh well, maybe some other time.
what a waste of a social security number....your brother that is....i know people who would literally KILL for a legit social security #.
Such a wack way to give out beta keys...but the bottom line is DO NOT HAVE SUCH A HUGE EVENT ON YOUR WEBSITE IF 2K PEOPLE CONNECTED CREATE A 2+ MINUTE LAG! UPGRADE YOUR WEBSITE OR DON'T HAVE EVENTS LIKE THIS. DURRR DURRRRR DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I usualy don't post on this website.. I use my account to read the newsletter and to get beta key... I refreshed. I saw : 0 comments... I entered "me plz" and i got the 6th comment... I just got lucky today... I'm not a bot... lol
Yeah this game has a ton of buzz around it, prolly the most anticipated game out since WoW.. so it is gunna be like this for any way they try to give these vip keys out, just stick in there guys you will get one soon enough.
And to the ppl who r bitching about not getting one.. lol I have camped facebook, twitter, like 5 other sites that do this or weeks and posted in all the contest on Rfts Forums on any day I had off work (Work 2 jobs).. finally got one today.. i was hitting refresh for 5 hours today to get it.. just stick in there guys, you will get one.
Been a member since 2007, always on the site... but my post count sucks.. I hate talking.. hehe.
But good luck to all who need one and grats to people who got.

As I said look at your join date, I m glad for you, not some jerk just creating in the last few days. Obvious is obvious, but they re to blind to see it.
So bascially we can use more than 1 account to get more keys, and use bots LOVELY way to ruin another game.
You people love to ruin games and cheaters win again... Your blind if you do not see a problem with this as people are selling your BETA CODES... I do not understand why you do not see anything wrong, so bascially I can win a key and make a new account and win another, and another and another.
Also I can run bots o many accounts and win many to sell, I mean cmon it can be done, and 43-100 is fishy to say the least...Block there IP or block them from posting on RIFT forums.
Anyhow I knew you would do nothing about this I plan to show the devs on the Rift forums and see what they think of this unfair and fishy contest.. i'm a programmer I know what can be done to cheat these contest and when I see 43-100 new accounts that sounds fishy and your letting people win more than 1.
/rant off, I won't bother wasting my time on the next 2 days and I suggest the rest of you do the same, unless you plan on cheating thats the only way to get one.. unless you get lucky...
Alot of us did spam and did not get one due to server over loading and such , which is fine to lose to that, but the bots i,m sure played a role in that since they spamming your forum every 1-2 seconds.
I've elaborated above on the measures we've taken to make sure keys aren't claimed by bots. People will sell beta keys no matter what site gives them away or how they do it, whether its a drawing, first come first serve, anything. Only one key is claimable by a single account, and we have measures in place to deal with multiple accounts on the same IP address, etc.
I am not going to discuss all the specifics of what we do to make sure things are fair, but I can assure you that we are doing whatever we possibly can. Users selling our keys are beyond our control (unless they try selling them on our forums!).
Users who abuse our system in order to request a key will not be flagged to receive one, and their key will be reserved for the next user above the cutoff. This user will then be notified that they ended up qualifying for a key.
So bascially we can use more than 1 account to get more keys, and use bots LOVELY way to ruin another game.

There are measures to alleviate that though. USE JOIN DATE AS A MEASURE. Why is this so hard to understand. If someone just created in the last few days too bad. I know they ll say they read etc and never joined, but it s a measure to insure people will participate in the forums instead of just creating when it s convenient. It s a simple solution that should have been done in the first place.
Having a post requirement is a bit basis. Im a new member to the forums, but i have been visiting here for years. I never post on mmo site boards, too many QQs and whiners for my taste. So that whole post requiremet would be very unfair to users like myself. I do however agree with you on how these stupid people are messing up this whole contest for people that are actually trying to get a key to use. I kinda figured that there where A-holes that were getting these keys just to sell, so i just kinda gave up on trying to get a key.
The rules of the giveaway are simple. They weren't giving away keys based on the 500 people who have the most posts, or the first 500 registered accounts to MMORPG, they were giving keys away based on the first 100 posters to the giveaway link per day.
I'm not even sure how a bot for this would work, but I can tell you I got the #2 key today by refreshing the page constantly and using copy/paste to paste my comment so I didn't have to type it out. Best of luck to you guys on getting a key over the next two days of giveaways, and I hope to see some of you guys in game when you get your key!

Post count I don t give a crap about. Join date I do however. If you join and never post, and have for years, you at least joined based on wanting to be a part of the community, not to win a contest. See my point, it s obvious many joined with no intention to ever post on this site to win a key. If it s to actually test it or for profit is no care of mine either. It should be to loyal fans etc not some fly by the night people that ruin it for everyone.
Using join date or post count would be really unfair. I don't think they can do that without angering the other users, new ones. So either way, people will complain, be it "vets" who have been here for long or new users who just want a key. My suggestion would be that the first 4 contests are open for all and that the last 100 keys (or 50 keys) are given away amongst members who have been here longer. Sorry for anyone who didn't get a key, keep trying, but don't blame mmorpg.com, they are doing their best. Isn't it great they are giving those VIP keys away in the first place?

Its a bad idea... They want more people on the website and a lot of people will register to get those key and they will probably enjoy the newletters and start to read the website... You cannot ignore the new users just cause there are only 500 keys...

It's simple enough to set up scripts that will auto check for and post on any type of forum software in threads with titles containing specific criteria, even to have the script incorporate proxies.
Not saying that's happened here, just that it's an easy thing to do.

Sure you can. New user could participate in day 1 thats it. 400 More available based on join date. Pissing of vet users or new users that more then likely won t be back. Think about it.

We are not going to punish new users for signing up to our site, even if it is to get a key. We value all of our users, new and old. We do have sweepstakes that reward consistently active users by granting them additional entries into a drawing (increasing their chances, though not guaranteeing anything based on activity), and we'll definitely look into doing something like that if we can, but no promises.
Simply saying, "Hey, we have 100 keys but if you signed up today you can't have one!" just isn't going to happen, and in all my years as a reader I cannot say I've ever seen a site do this. If it has happened, it's certainly the exception, not the rule.
The keys were not given out to "insure users participate on our forums". They were given to us because a developer or publisher knows they can reach MMO gamers best through our site and sites like ours; having users stick around after they sign up to grab a key is a bonus. There is more to MMORPG.com than our forums, and there are many readers who have been reading here for years and years that simply never bothered to sign up, and they are no less valuable to us. We cannot discern between the two, it would be unfair to try, and we are simply not going to do it.
With that said, we do have contest types that do reward regular users as I outlined above, and this was simply not structured that way. This was structured along the lines of many of our typical first come, first serve giveaways.
So bascially we can use more than 1 account to get more keys, and use bots LOVELY way to ruin another game.

I just cannot believe how many people sat here all day hoping for a chance of a chance to actually get in the beta for Rift.I seriously hope the game rocks but im not going to get pissy about not getting a key.

Think you're missing the point. The whole purpose is for them to generate traffic to the site and get new users. That's what "this" contest is about. Have you gotten previous betas from this site? I bet you have.. How much are you entitled to as a regular user? You're not paying a fee for this site. If you were, I would agree with you. Bottom line is sites like this use beta keys to generate interest in their site.

I understand the point, and no I ve never won a thing on here. I have entered many with the log in each day and get a ticket, Always did log in each day and never won. Guess what that never bothered me at all because it was fair. I never once had to race to beat the f n clock and lag out because of obvious botters slowing me down. If people can t see the unfairness of that, then I give up.

You can be rest assured that almost all of the keys were legitimately given away. I went through and checked each name, and most have logged in atleast once again after grabbing the key. I'm sure some botters grabbed a few, but always having the same type of contest is somewhat boring. There will be more opportunities and the fact that Mike is trying to do something for us veterans shows personal investment that's not required at all on his part. I'm glad that you're very excited for Rift, as am I, but our time will come, whether that is now, Open Beta, or release.

I know the beta doesn't start till dec.
However,IIFC i played the closed beta of Aion and i was able to download the game 1 week before it started.
As I said look at your join date, I m glad for you, not some jerk just creating in the last few days. Obvious is obvious, but they re to blind to see it.

I won t go on, you re totally missing the point. I ll let you keep thinking it s the right way to do it.
Fair enough!
He who keeps his cool best wins.
