Rift doesnt really sparcle to me. Its just pure solid with fair graphics and fair gameplay. A game that seems playable for a long time.
Tera would be my second call. I like the enviroment and the combat. However a bit too PvP'ish and korean for me.
GW2. For me it doesnt belong here. I dont know why. It is a MMORPG however it doesnt have a subscription. That makes it a box-sale sport, and i doubt the endgame will hold enough interest for others than casuals. However a really good side game to a subscription based game. GW2 wins this pole with miles, due to the fact that it caught interest in both P2P and F2P lovers.
DC universe holds no interest for me. and SWTOR looks like... garbage... It cant be right that the graphics and combat is so bad. They might have put their focus elsewhere, but this does in no way justify their budget!
Wow way too much over hyping of GW2. A lot of you guys are going to be dissapointed. If you don't love GW1 and you think GW2 will be the best MMO ever you are delusional.
Rift for me, and I love GW1, have hundreds of hours in it, still play it, and am stoked about GW2.
None of this comment makes very much sense to me. I think we can all agree here that GW2 is VASTLY different from GW1, and on top of that you end with "Rift" even though you dont give any reason for it, and even afterwards you state how you love GW1 and are stoked for GW2?
Why wouldnt you pick GW2 then? Why did you pick Rift?
I think theres "Overhyping" but choosing Rift just because its an indie game and not a big time production is a little ridiculous. I mean im sorry im looking forward to Rift too, but everything weve seen about GW2 is light years beyond Rift.
GW2 gets my vote, my main complaint with GW1 was that it didnt have any open world elements and had terrible movement controls, so far all ive seen of GW2 has proven to fix those problems.
Because it is ridiculous to say 'Rift hands down' like my opinion makes up the whole pole. Rift is not indy, it is being developed by Trion along side 2 other MMO's. It is rumored to be 100 million + dollar budget.
Rift is a traditional MMO. I love the Guild Wars franchise, but I am more excited about Rift and I anticipate it more. All of these people jumping on the Guild Wars bandwagon that probably barely played or didn't like Guild Wars 1 are going to overhype it and dissapoint themselves. I have seen plenty of videos on GW2 and know all about what they are adding. I guarantee it won't live up to the hype of all these people. No clue why it is this hyped in the first place besides maybe the way they have been hyping it.
It will be a solid game, but it won't replace your top AAA MMO for more than 2-3 months.
Indie was the wrong word to use, I wanted to try and say "Sleeper Hit" or something along those lines but couldnt find the placement, my mistake and your correct on that.
But I dont see why your saying GW2 has some type of unwarrented hype, and in fact I dont understand how you can say "The way THEY have been hyping it."?
Whose "THEY"? The developers? Because I havent seen any hype that isnt warrented come from there camp. In fact compared to SWTOR or any other big name MMO coming out they have been very lax with the hype. I mean they didnt even have a game website up until when? August of Last year?
I've played GW1 off and on since beta and loved it. GW2 is my most anticipated game of all time. And I am completely aware that they are vastly different games. I think most people know this by now.
I also don't think the fact that the website has only been up since last August as any merit at all. The argument literally holds no weight at all.
These games certainly do not hold any interest to me due to the fact that they are JUST machines
TERA - we get bombarded with supposedly "relevant" news info and posts on how awesome it will be, but so far the only real feature it seems ot have is non-targeting combat. Otherwise its just prettier aion or any other <insertyourgrindgamehere>. Now it would all still be good if it was f2p, but its p2p game(published by heinious and horrible frogster in europe, so europeans are yet again screwed) and a p2p game with huge multi-million investments and budgets and bills reaching almost a billion dollars. Now where did i hear already about a hyped p2p game with huge budget and too much hype? Oh right, apb.. II predict a huge disappointment from the community once the game is released. Maybe it will go f2p in few years but it will certainly won't get a huge market share.
Star Wars: The Old Republic - everything I said about TERA still holds true, except that the combat is utterly weak in this one. I will admit, I had a HUGE hopes when it was anounced that third kotor saga part will be a mmo. However after that all I saw was a hype and disappointing little bits of actual information(from story to gameplay). The hype is dangerous for this one. Of course since its Bioware, it might get overrated and praised like fps effect II, but IMO that won't be the case. The game has nothing innotive nor interesting. The core essence of what made KOTOR great is gone and we have yet another rvr game with focus on pve And the only feature that is fully advertised is voice acting? The whole info suppresion, the fired employee blog, the lack of actual info and too much hype leads me to believe that people will be either hugely disappointed with this or will try to justify on why it did not achieve anything significant or why it is undeserving to be a part of kotor awesomeness.
Guild Wars II - well, this still has its hype, but its managed and controlled (unlike TOR or TERA). However all I see so far is guild wars 1 with better graphics. None of the mistakes guild wars made are fixed, sadly.
DC Universe Online - sadly so far it seems that the champions online situation will repeat itself, game will stumble around for a year or so only to go f2p afterward.
Rift - now this has a lot of hype, but the actual info leaks and bits somewhat justify it. The rift dynamics sound interesting and the multiclass system as well. I certainly hope it won't be just another grind to play as it has all the elements of good old school mmorpg in its development, which i like.
Overall, while of this list I will choose Rift, that is certainly NOT my most awaited mmorpg. It goes somewhat like this:
1. Secret World
2. ArcheAge
3. Faxion
4. Rift.
Wooow sweet jesus of mother earth you are the biggest troll i have ever seen. The norse gods will tear you to nothing.
Guild Wars 2 ftw! I am so insanely excited for that game, it sounds like it will match my gaming style more than any other game has before. It is as if they sat down and said "lets make a game for Aetoss" lol.
Rift SHOULD win this, but it won't due to the multitudes of GW2 fanboys on this site.
Rift only have rifts in their dynamic event system which can expand and take control and they have FactionvsFaction and dungeons and crafting
While GW2 dynamic events are all different with a story you can enjoy and events chain in multiplie directions and GW2 has WorldvsWorldvsWorld and strucutured pvp. (GW2 events can also let mobs lose and take control), it has much more variety. It has crafting, dungeons and games in cities like snowball fights or bar brawls and GW2 also has storyline missions that affect differently depending how your character is made and it's choices.
You can even see that i have more to write about GW2 than Rift and how fun it seems to be and i've seen beta videos and it looks great, tho i like Rift aswell and i will play the beta tomorrow and help them to fix bugs and so on. But GW2 wins this.
Guild Wars 2 definitely, though I think it will be a close call, just not between GW2 and SWTOR. People seem to be clinging to that game, but it's more or less the avid followers at this point. It seems to have lost a lot of its mainstream appeal, which has migrated over to Rift and TERA. Overall I'd say it'll be a close run between GW2 and Rift. It COULD be TERA, but the action MMO thing tends to be a turn off to people who like it old school.

GW2 is not so vastly different from GW1. It is a true sequel with upgrades where needed. Everyone screamed for open world areas not just towns and they got it, they screamed for bigger battles and they got it, and of course it will have everything that was good from GW1. I still don't imagine many people who dislike GW1 will all of the sudden love GW2. It is way overhyped here just like AoC, WAR, etc. I usually am part of the hype but with GW2 I can see through it. It will be an awesome game, but it won't live up to everyones expectations here.
Rift on the other hand is flying under the radar. It is perfect to come out strong and build up hype after launch. I hope it stays right where it is at.
I am just thankful we don't have to listen to trolls talk about GW2 sub numbers compared to box sales. What MMO player wouldn't pick up GW2? No sub for a game that good? An RPG that good? Everyone of us should have it. Still I am anticipating Rift more.
I played GW1 since the Beta Weekend events and have enjoyed the world a great deal. I'm really looking forward to the innovations being made for GW2 and I can't wait to see more details about the game.
haha, this is the best batch of upcoming MMO's since WOW and EQ2. They all are promising. You saying none of them look promising is much more than pessimistic
I was thinking the same thing. I chose GW2 because it's just my thing, but nearly all the other games nominated look pretty damned good too (well, Tera looks passable). It's been a while since the MMO future looked more like a yellow brick road than urine-soaked alley out behind a crack house.
P.S. I'm not a fan of action style combat, so DCUO is not even on my radar. Turn based combat that relies on my characters stats instead of my reflexes and latency is much more my cup of tea.

Today's "most anticipated" is tomorrow's bargain-bin dumpster fire.

Pfft GW2 will win because it deserve it.

I love fantasy, but I'm a bit burned out on them in MMOs. I like Bioware's approach to casual gaming so I went with SWTOR.
GW2 and Rifts are a close second. I will likely play all of them, but my focus will be on Sci-Fi this time around.

RIFT. Again, RIFT.
Doesn't mean I voted twice. It's just for emphasis
I think GW2 may beat it here though, and possibly TOR. Don't care. I'll be playing RIFT.
Rift
Guild Wars 2

Rift.
Indeed, but thats ok, let the F2P sheeple get sucked in by the hype of actually getting a half decent game for a change.
Rift will do just fine
