Awhile back, I said Earthrise looks like a FFA sanbox version of Tabula Rasa. Seeing the beta video, it REALLY looks like a sanbox version of Tabula Rasa. Pretty excited about this one, I want a sandbox TR
I honestly would too, but in all seriousness, that video with its clunky animation, low-res graphics, sterile environment, clothing dropping off a slain foe, unintelligent npc reactions, does appear to be far worse than Tabula Rasa.
It's as if the stride is too short for the distance he is traveling and in slow motion. The straffing looks like your in a constant state of almost falling down or almost about to trip or something. Yikes.

Again, my own caveat is, it's still in testing.
I actually liked the environments. The waterfalls look pretty good, something thats hard to get right, and there somes to be a good variety of environments. Models and animation are a bit lackluster, but its no dealbreaker. Look at Darkfall and EVE, ones getting ready to update models and animation while the other has already improved the visuals for the entire game.
Besides, some of the best looking MMOs are also the worst to actually play. FFXIV anyone? Aion? AoC's environments really are breathtaking. APB had some great looking character models. I could do this all day...
The only thing that worries me at all is what seems to be rubberbanding or desync. Still, its the first beta video we've seen. I'm not giving my hopes up but I think it looks very promising. If it was in open beta getting ready to be released, it would be a different story; but seeing as performance is the one thing that should improve drastically at this point in development, I'm not overly concerned.
Now what I'm interested in is how close to the original vision the implemented systems will be.
If it wasn't for Eve and now Perpetuum I would lose all hope in the sandbox sci-fi sub genre. EarthRise looks terrible no thanks. What a let down.
You are judging a game in beta? I saw a lot of great things and a lot of things that need improvement that I think MHS already knows about. The video was really let down by the fact that the reticle was not recorded, so it makes the game look like tab targeting when it is not.
This is from the CEO.
The TAB key in Earthrise is used by default for switching between free cursor mode and FPS mode.
Yes you can.. look at the target running at the player and the targeting just moves with the enemy. It stays right on him as tab targeting would.
The targeting moves with the enemy because the player is aiming at the enemy like in FPS games. We agree it is hard to see in the video, but hopefully all of you will get to try the game and judge for themselves.
Just wondering, for those of you who have been following this game now turned off by this beta video, what were you expecting gameplay to look like?
The video is pretty much the screens they've released in motion, the combat looks to be more or less what the last combat video was except more fast pace (like they promised to make it); aside from the animations is there any departure from you were expecting??
Its almost eerie how well this beta video fit my own expectations of how Earthrise would play in early beta.
From what I can tell about the actual gameplay from this video, it looks like the weapon types are coming along. The rocket launcher seems to require the user to be stationary and does a lot of damage, flamer are all about aoe, the gattling gun/ assault rifles are more about kiting, you can see that one melee guy sprint in one part it looks like a guy one shots a mob from behind suggesting attacking with melee from flanks does extra dmg. Weapon balance seems to rely on rate of fire, range, and relative dps.
Once again, pretty much what Masthead told us to expect.
No game is going to be for everyone, but I just can't understand how people hyped for a game can be disappointed when it looks to be exactly what we were promised.
I like the huge environment, environment and character models are nicely done too, although i think there should be more models placed in the environment becaus it does look bland. Tt still isnt a big deal since it could easily be done later.
Now, combat looks pretty much the same as in the older video, guy with knives in front of him is the same r3tarded model from first video,who- I think alone-makes this video horrible. Explosions and shot graphics and animations seems to have been taken from alpha version of Anarchy Online. Jumping animation is horrible.
Verdict: after all the delays, the only improvment since last video is somewhat better graphics and textures, everything else is the same - no addition to content at all. So what does it tell us? - it tells us that they have been wasting their resources on Fallout MMO. No wonder they didnt want to release the video for so long, there was just nothing new to show. "Good Job" for taking such a bad risk.
It took them almost a year to release the promised video, it will take them another year to release beta, and another to release the game, in case MSH hasnt been watching movies- the world is going to end in 2012, so they better hurry up.

Theres some hope for this game afterall, atleast they will have you and 10 other beta testers and fanbois playing the game.
Idk I feel like it has actually improved some what. There is defiantly a feel of a more fluid combat even with the very sluggish and clunky animations. The aiming even with out the reticle seemed less stiff and more soft/free. Yes, animations have not changed but I do notice the changes in targeting and also in the shooting. If you do not notice the different then your attention to detail is lacking.
I am not saying that this is great however it is not horrible. It is really in between and I think a lot of people are over exaggerating because they can not get over the animations. Which can all be fixed before release if they have time.

yes there are additions, thats pretty obvious, but video in general doesnt seem like an improvement from the first one. yea it can all be fixed, anything can be fixed anytime, problem is that after 2 years all they have to show us is minimal amount of new graphical additions, so whos gonna wait for this game? not too many, they have already lost a good chunk of people who were excited about the game earlier, to other MMOS. I am still up to try a beta within next half a year, after that, ill stop following it.

1 year lets not over exaggerate the years and after a very hefty revamp (a combat revamp is not something that is easily changed). Graphics is of no concerns and should not be for a lot of players (I mean people should have learned there lessons that gameplay is more important then graphics by now) as the key thing should be gameplay and also animations as that might ruin ones immersion.
A lot of graphics and environmental issues can be added later after release when the core features of the game have become more polished, I.E combat fluidness.
Yeah, sure you will stop following.... Then maybe all the good reviews will start coming in and players will praise the game. Then what are you going to do?

Since when do games get graphic overhauls before they even go live? WTF were you expecting?
Jesus F***ing Christ, do all you people just care about graphics and animations? Go play FFXIV and quit bitching about an indie game with limited funding not having ground breaking visuals or a MoCap Studio.
As long as the game launches relatively bug free, with all the promised sandbox systems implemented and unbroken PVP; I'll be playing. When I play LOTRO or some other themebox quest grind, I expect eye candy. Without it, whats the point? With a sandbox, when I play EVE most of the time I'm looking at squares and loving it.
Gameplay>Graphics anyday.
I'm glad they haven't been spending all their time making the game pretty, means they've probably been working on the actual game.
Edit- Just wanted to add, you probably think Avatar is an amazing movie and if you ever saw The Seventh Seal or Ikiru would probably bash them for being in black and white, because based on your posts it seems like you're that very special sort of shallow.
Thank you all for your feedback on the video! We were excited to finally share it with you. As many of you have pointed out, we are still in beta testing, and therefore the video does include some animations and graphics that need to be polished before the final release, but hopefully it was still a valuable snapshot of Earthrise. With regard to the aiming v. targeting system, players in Earthrise have a choice between free crosshair mode and locked crosshair mode, and there is no autotarget or locked target assistance. Please let us know if you have other questions about what you’ve seen in the video, either here or over at our official forums. Your comments are very valuable to us, as they help our team with the continued development of Earthrise in preparation for release.

WOOT! This was an unexpected surprise logging onto MMORPG.com. Awesome Ostiak!
Was looking foward to this game...but that combat does not look remotely fun.
Shit, I completely agree. I have been looking forward to this game for a lonnnng time. I think that the art direction, the environmental graphics, etc look just fine. The animations and the combat are just flat out horrendous. Damn. I hope they SERIOUSLY revise the combat and animations or this game won't make it. I wish them the best.

Its great that Atanasov is relying on feedback, but lets see here..... these complains were already voiced after the first video release, people were saying that combat looks slow and clumsy, this is a major let down that it hasnt been improved already, Have we all entered a dejavu paradox and first video with clumsy animations doesnt count?
Well, i thought it was awsome. above my expectations. If latency isnt to much of an issue i'm all over it.
Things that annoyed me was, as everyone else stated. The running animation for close combat wepons. I also didn't like the running animation on the launcher. They didn't have to make one for them specifically.
Comments
I honestly would too, but in all seriousness, that video with its clunky animation, low-res graphics, sterile environment, clothing dropping off a slain foe, unintelligent npc reactions, does appear to be far worse than Tabula Rasa.
Again, my own caveat is, it's still in testing.

This looks like pre-alpha footage to me.
They need to do one of two things:
1) Spend another 2 years at the very least to give this game the much needed development.
OR
2) Scrap the game entirely, save their money, and make childrens board games until they have the $$ to start another project.
I'm almost embarrassed for Masthead. They really screwed the pooch on this one if they release this anytime soon.

If this video is the best the company has to show then there's alot of problems with the game already.
If this was made by fans i would consider it a "beta video" and leave it at that, but a company made video that's so bad?
Not a good sign at all.
