Thanks to Darkfall, I cannot enjoy any other MMORPG anymore . .. they are all way too boring in comparison.
As for the comments about the community . ... this game is run by clans and your community changes almost entirely depending on what clan you are in. You probably don't know the community. Most of those that I have played with havent gone on forums. If you haven't played for a long time than you probably only met disgruntled noobs and griefers. Agon is a large world with a hell of a lot more to do than what the starter cities have to offer.
I am at the edge of my seat when I play Darkfall and I can play it however I want. This is the only game that can do that for me. Name any other game in the market and I will tell you why it is boring compared to Darkfall since I have tried most of them and 99% of them are just clones anyways.

I bought Darkfall when it was on sale for $7.50. I really enjoyed exploring and the social aspects of this game. Only thing I got turned off of was the having to grind a lot to get pvp viable and to get back at all the ganks I got being a noob. For $15 (the game is on sale now) it is definately worth it. I got a good month's worth of play.
Also, I want to mention that thanks to having no skill cap, the combat is insanely fun!!! I have never come across anything like it. It truly feels epic when you are fighting at the edge of your seat while a simple mistake will kill you and you end up using all sorts of fun things as a battleground and at times can end up bringing the fight across several zones in a long epic battle.
Words cannot describe it but if you were my buddy at my house watching me play the game . . .. you would understand why it is my favorite by far.
Again, thanks for the no skill cap AV!! Its fun as hell!!! : D
(im a casual player btw who did not macro or grind . .. but am pretty much told that I shouldn't be enjoying the best game Ive ever come across whenever I visit any forums talking about Darkfall)

If you were a long time hard core veteran of DF I'd understand why you were thankful for no skillcap, but in your situation I'm not seeing it, care to explain your line of thinking?

It is becoming the next big game apart from your regular commercial mmo's outthere that have targeting system and cookie cutters. After playing darkfall i cannot enjoy any other mmo that is out on the market. It just to plain, and boring. Darkfall is at a state where its ready to come out with a Huge new expansion and they are planning a relaunch. i have seen many players on trial then once trial is done they sub.
The game is okay for what it is, but it's more of giant arena game.
If they want this game to be a sandbox I think they need to do a few things:
1) Make the item system much more robust. It's WAY too linear.
2) Make the skill system more robust. Stats and skills make characters too powerful, but don't really give the players more options. The magic system is kind of an exception to the more options, but even then, the different magic skills are basically copy and paste, and just basically get more powerful. There's certainly nothing wrong with having characters become stronger or more effective with what they have as they increase skills, even Eve-online does that, however, I think Darkfall does it the wrong way: Too much emphasis on power, little emphasis on utility.
3) Related to the above two, the crafting system should be much more robust. It's incredibly too focused. I don't think that there is anything inherently wrong with allowing a character to learn all the different trade skills, but there are only a handful and it doesn't really take that long to max them. They should introduce many more trade skills, such as sub-groups of all the weapons and different armor groups, and make crafting more interactive. I'm not sure about this, but I seem to remember that it was possible to max crafting just by creating the most basic items. If that is indeed how it is, then they should change it.
4) Significantly increase the rate at which items are destroyed. Like, if you are taking enough damage to be killed, then your armor pieces should be taking huge hits to durability and even being destroyed in the process. This is not to make it more realistic, but rather to make it so that there is an actual in-game economy.
5) Introduce way more types of the basic resources (woods and ores) and make the rarer types only spawn in certain, limited, areas.
6) Give players a place where they can play in peace without needing to worry about getting ganked. The vicinity around the NPC starter cities would be ideal. This caters to different play-styles, which is what a sandbox is all about.
7) Allow players and guilds the ability to place buildings practically anywhere except in areas owned by NPCs. Buildings should be destroyable, but for the sake of balance, they shouldn't be destroyable to the point that a player that is gone for a couple days doesn't have a chance to respond to it. The world is too small to allow for players to just build all willy-nilly, but people online are too much of douchebags to not give player's some sort of protection. Just make the protection come at some sort of cost.

Ummm sorry, but no. 2 years after release and they still don't have half of what they promised would be in the game at launch. Have they stopped the exploits and hacks? Have they fixed the skill system so you get some benefit for points 2-24 in a skill or is it still only bonuses at 25-50-75-100? Did they fix keep walls so they actually keep people out, or can you still run up the side of whatever they touch and jump right over? This game was a monumental failure at launch and they lied through their teeth day after day. I personally would never go back.
You are so so wrong.
That ppl can get over a wall dossent tell anything about the game. Its just how it is. It tells NOTHING about anything. Its not a bug.
monumental failure...... Are you kidding me? Have you played 1 other mmo? This game got everything it needs to grow. And i believe it will. As EVE did.
Like always, still non-mmo games and even Korean grinders that carry more players on an off day then Darkfail ever will. Deal with it, this game is generic and it's been since it was first brought up back in 2001. Go outside already or something.
When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?
I think from what I see DF is moving in a direction that would make it a viable sandbox game but as it stands now it is too focused on pvp and "feeding" the desire of it's ffa pvp crowd. If people want to disallow themepark games from being considered sandbox then games like DF don't get a pass either in my opinion.
I've heard nothing about this game that doesn't have to do with pvp combat. One of the things I was under the assumpotion of is it would be a crafters dream with more items than anything before it but I hear nothing of it. And whenever guys want to argue it is a sandbox the only thing I ever hear about is the "politics" which really boils down to who finally got bored with peace and decided to go to war with someone else.
Maybe the title is correct in that it is becoming, but it certainly isn't there yet.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

i'm one of the many that primarily plays it for PVE and exploration and generally avoid PVP.
it has the best PVE combat & AI by far of any other MMO that i've tried (haven't gotten to try DCUO yet), and even better than most single player games (the AI i mean).
when they said it would be like fighting advanced Quake type bots, they lived up to that goal well.

PVP is main factor. But besides that alot to do:
The animation of the fights in PVE will prop never reach many other mmo's. Its because its FPS and not just some cool animation in the background. Hope you know the difference.
Its not like WOW where you always will have 24 quests on you.
Grats to Adventurine on a fun element of game development (motion capture).
But they'd need to fill the world with interesting content and remove zerg-fest PVP for me to really be interested in the game again.
I have followed the DF forums here, from time to time, for a few yrs now.
IMO if they had fleshed out more PVE & crafts, besides some limits on PVP, it would of done a heck of a lot better subscription wise.
Those that play adore DF. IMO 20k or less subs doesnt mean chit.
This game is as niche as you get, and until such time the mechanics are not available to run off new players, it will remain as such. There needs to be a serious price to pay for ganking nOObs. EVE understands this with high/low sec.
Which is a shame, as from what I have seen, AV crafted a nice world.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
DF really is one the best games out right now. I only wished it had a strong PVE side. After countless years of killing people, who woulda thought I would miss a safe night of gathering or grinding.
Still, this was one of those games that brought back that classic MMO feeling. Also the only MMO I have quit and come back too. It just really is that good.
IMO if they had fleshed out more PVE & crafts, besides some limits on PVP, it would of done a heck of a lot better subscription wise.
Exactly how I feel. They would have at least a +1 from me and probably a few of my friends. About a year ago, I thought they were going to start making major progress to making the PVE and Crafting better, but they really haven't. Better AI is nice and all, but that's not what makes good PVE.
The main problem with me is the way they implemented building, land, and crafting. A sandbox would allow a player faction to create and hold trading posts, cities, and other sorts of things that bring economy to their part of the world and create content for themselves. Sadly, it takes all 3 of those factors implemented in a way, that Darkfall missed the mark by long way. It would take an entire revamp and server wipe, to really fix the game to where it could be considered a good sandbox.
Darkfall currently has a free 14-day trial so if you have any interest you should really give it a try. Try not to listen to all of the outright negativity that is spouted on so many forums, just give the game a try and make your own opinion. Personally I find Darkfall to be one of the best MMORPGs currently out on the market.
ffa full loot pvp will never be sandbox. because no matter how much you dress up the rest of the game, it always comes down to kill or be killed.
UO isn't sandbox? :'( (at least beforeTrammel and all that).
The reason why DarkFall fails isn't because it's FFA PvP with Full Loot. It's because there's nothing to do outside of grinding to compete in PvP, that's all there is in Darkfall. There's no sand at all, at most we have the box but not much you can do without the sand.
Like always, still non-mmo games and even Korean grinders that carry more players on an off day then Darkfail ever will. Deal with it, this game is generic and it's been since it was first brought up back in 2001. Go outside already or something.
If it's so generic and crappy, why are you bothering coming to the Darkfall forums and posting?

You can do dungeons, trade, craft, tradegank, PvP, Siege.. there are things to do. I mean what do you mean by 'sand', what do you want them to add? The game isn't exactly on a high budget either and Aventurine does other things than Games, as well, now. (defense contracts, sponsorships, etc).
No PVE ? How com me and about 10 of my guild mates spent last night questing in one of the dungeons ?
This is an MMO and like all MMOs there is a grind.. Darkfall is not too bad if you compare it to say umm Age of Conan PVP lvl grind...
Also most standard MMOs end game is all about raids raids and wait some raids...
Darkfall end game i guess is massive massive PVP battles, dungeons, crafting, building up guild cities, hamlets, building a navy... so mcuh to it .. Yes it takes time to max your character out but thats a good thing you dont have to stand hitting one mob 24/7 if you dont want to, you know you can go out and play the game as intended.. might not be the fastest way but thats upto you.

Like it or not, DF is really a semi-sandbox game. Not a true sandbox, but about as close as any game has come for a long time.
Problem is, it's all box and very little sand, but still.
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy

There`s hardly a grind in Darkfall and you can pvp with a level 1 char. Atleast that`s what some keep telling us.
Other than that, yes DF is the best mmo at the moment.
Ok, there is no grind and you can beat a day 1 vet from day 1 (is that ok?)
