I'm suprised to be even saying this because I had no intentions of buying Rift at all nor was I even concerned about beta testing Rift. I was all set to play DCUO but because DCUO lacks content I just couldn't bare the thought of paying for a game that will last me 2 months at best. Then I remembered I still have my beta key invite from Gamespot to beta test Rift and I am so glad I did. The game is well polished and quite honestly it is the most fun I had playing a mmo since my days of FFXI.
Pros:
1. Rift events are fun and grant you nice exp and rep points. They might be pqs in WAR but Trion does it alot better.
2. The soul system is great. Make any character type you can come up with. They let you play it your way. Alot of replayability here.
3. Community seems alot better than most mmos I have played in and that is a big plus.
4. No cartoony characters.
5. NPCs aren't dumbed down for the masses so that you can rush to raid end game.
6. The immersion of the game is really good.
7. No forced grouping or forced pvp.
8. Plenty of raid content if you like raiding for gear.
9. The best CE offer I have ever seen.
10. Trion cares about their game and their players.
11. Combat is smooth and fun.
Cons:
1. Still needs more polish but it is still beta.
2. Balance issues for pvp might be a concern.
3. Trion is still an unkown and might have a tough time getting the recognition it deserves.

+1 to ur post op. for here's another pro. since beta 2 they have completly fixed most of the player requested issues. Many players are amazed on how well they listen and how fast they can fix the issues. And the fix's dont create new issues!. Personally for a starting company in the gaming world. these guys will make a nice name forthemselves as long as they continue to listen to the community and keep the speedyness coming!.
It will be the best game on the market to those people who love it. The best game on the market could be subjective, but if you take any factual evidence, everyone already knows what game that is.
while i am enjoying tha beta and think that Trion is doing a great job thus far. TIme will tell. THere is still alot of the game that we have not seen and while i do hope that Rift does continue to impress.
I have to agree that the game is pretty solid, but I am looking forward to see how it goes against the other games releasing next year.
Rift is not my main choice of 2011 right now, but if the others doesn't deliver and Rift patches in more content pretty fast I can see myself playing it.
I do however have higher hopes for GW2 since Rift doesn't deliver much new things, it just adds polish and slightly different perspective to already existing games. And I havn't counted out TERA, TOR and TSW either.
And who knows, maybe WoDO actually launches to X-mas next year as well (fat chance but you never can be 100% sure).
It will be a good game.... when it releases in 2011 maybe even the best game for MMO veerans that grew tired of the current games (WoW, EQ2, lotro) ....
But then they should release it before GW2 releases, because the release of GW2 might change a ew things..
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
It is a beautiful game but no thanks for me.
I just quit WoW after 6 years and im not looking to play its sequel.

First and foremost I'm always a Guild Wars/ArenaNet fan so yes, I'll be stopping Rift eventually to play Guild Wars 2. I tell ya though, I'm really suprised that finally we have a fun and polished mmo to play for once. I'm starting to like Trion alot and they also have their mmorts End of Nations mmo coming out too. Trion is definitely on that good path and definitely a developer to watch out for in the future.
I agree.
I am playing beta and loving it.
I disagree with almost everything but especially this.
Not a single developer has ever said anything on the forums, not even once in the 9+ months that their forums have been up.
There have been multiple threads actually complaining about this.
There is not a single indication that "Trion" "cares" about their players, they don't even interact with them.
Collector's editions are scams.
It might be all that you say it is but.......for some reason I find the gameplay to be so bland.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Agree, it is the standard Themepark gameplay.
Some might enjoy this, but nothing that sprung to mind which would make this game stand out behind the shadows of WoW and it is very much behind WoW's shadows, the gameplay is very similar to WAR and WoW.
Collector's editions are scams.
I completely disagree with the OP
This game will be another Warhammer, fun for 2 months than people will move on, like you already admitted you will.
A good MMO aim to keep a good subscription base for long not for few months.
If a MMO lacks longevity is not a good MMO.
Many out there are looking for a MMO to play for years to come.
Rift is not that.
Everything you say, is opinion.
I just got a beta key and started to download it, but I started watching videos first. I really have no desire to play another shoddy WoW Knockoff, and I'm sure most people don't either. I bought one a couple years ago and played for about 2 days before I deleted the game. Apparently, it was done by the crew who made this game.
This game will most likely fail, pretty badly. It comes in a time just after a major WoW expansion, it comes in a time after those who have wanted to leave WoW have already been let down by Aion, Warhammer, LoTRO, and whatever other game they've wanted to play. People have played WoW, they don't want to play it again.
It comes in a time just before SW:TOR and GW2. If both of those games provide what they have been promising, combined they are going to be the "WoW Killer" people have been searching for all these years.
Rift is going to get swept under the rug and fallow in the footsteps of it's predecessors. Vanguard, Aion, and of course Warhammer. (I left out LoTRO, because that game has always done fairly well with subscriptions)
1. Suppose so but not by much.
2. i still have a feeling they will be the games undoing making balance nigh impossible and constant FOTM.
3. It sucked ass in beta 1 the usual general spam of wow clone etc
4. Hmmm have to really disagree on that one the art style is the one major factor that rift has against it from my perspective the characters looked very cartoony.
5. Nor are they challenging there was nothing up to beta cap couldnt be hammered ith ease.
6. I found it severley lacking in questing storyline and immersion.
7. And thats a good thing ? why do you bother playing MMO's ?
8. didn't see anything to point me to raids either good or bad.
9. Agree thats how CE's should be.
10. Time will tell they certainly spin a good yarn.
11. Again disagree here combat to me felt clunky animations where poor when compared to other games and it didnt really flow well.
Rift is still slightly on my radar but as Loke says only if the other titles im looking forward to next year don't live up to expectation and if I do or do not play it I wish Trion well and hope they find success with it as I have a interest in One Earth the sci-fi MMO they are producing alongisde scy-fy that is to be a interactive MMO and TV show with each shaping events of the other.
I've just read on the beta forums the term "Wowhammer" and the more I play the more I'm starting to agree, though still a bit harsh.
I'm having a real problem with the difficulty level as it being non existent, I'm lvl 11 still in starter gear and have rifted naked a few times as well, for sick kicks . The Rifts amount to a zerg fest and I usually receive zero damage. I hope this is a beta thing as there is no strategy needed at present. I haven't quested much because of the fact that its very linear and I do not want to spoil it if I decide to buy it i've mainly grinded and rifted so it is possible to ignore the quests.
Positives are I love the starter Guardian areas once you get out of the intro area and would love to see the rest of the world this is a beautifully realised classic high fantasy world. The soul system has me thinking of builds already being a Dominator/Archon/Stormcaller I like that lots. The Rifts are great but we are having them thrown at us at a rate of knots so I can see them becoming a grind with no real effect on the world so do not know how that will translate into live.
I have other views but wiill not bore you with them. I'm torn with Rift its running sweet on my system with some lag when raiding rifts/invasions/footholds but it does feel a bit too easy and people will be cap in no time at all so I agree with the post I quoted I cannot see this game as a long term thing. Need to play more to see what other things it has to offer so I might change my mind.

Ok lets take a look at some of the other games out there. Only WoW would be an arguement because of how popular WoW is but I tell ya, almost everyone I have seen in beta talk about Rift they all say they have more fun in Rift than WoW.
1. WoW - Getting older by the second but still hold alof of subscriptions thanks to Blizzard twisting for the term subscriptions in China. Many are getting bored with WoW and Cataclysm was a big disappointment. McDonalds....
2. Lotro - Its a failed p2p mmo that was done horribly. It went f2p so that it could regain all the players that it lost. Everyone rants about how the world immersion is boring and combat is nothing special either. Turbine is practially giving the game way now because it is so desperate for rmt trasactions to keep it going.
3. Aion - Failed mmo in the NA/EU and only Asia really enjoys the game. Forced pvp = fail.
4. Fallen Earth - Pretty bad. I'm not sure people even care about it.
5. AOC - I think Funcom did a nice job fixing it but the damage has already been done.
6. WAR - Fail....
7. Darkfall - 4,000 people might play it and god bless them!
8 - Mortal Online - Huh ? Next.....
9 - EQ,EQ2 - Lets play it for nostalgia sake!
10. - DAOC - Too old and hardly anyone cares anymore.
11 - DDO - Horrible from the start and still horrible today even with the f2p model.
It will be solid, it will be successful. But DCUO is more fun and WOW is leaps and bounds ahead of it.
You don't even have to do the Rifts, there are faster ways to level and gear up.
Up to lvl 15 you are basically invincable if you pick the right souls and make sure one of them has a form of healing. Each archetype has at least 1 that can heal you.
There are some really OP builds right now and once you discover them you'll see the game is lacking any form of balance. The only thing balancing this sometimes is the fact that you will be forced to do some group missions to unlock the other souls. Outside of that you can basically zerg everything.
Collector's editions are scams.
No doubt this game will have some flaws but compared to what has been released in the past 6 years, this game is by far better than the rest.
Once novelty of the rifts wears down...all you got left is glorified WAR clone.
1, Was Cataclysm a big dissapointment? I"ve seen many people who say they hate it and just as many who love it. So this is just based on opinion? Where are the numbers?
2, Again, your opinion. I"ve been playing since closed beta and seen rise and fall and rise and fall in numbers. I'm more prone to agree with what they originally indicated which was that they saw DDO made a lot of money and they decided to make LOTRO follow the same route. Apparently it did. If you have numbers great but I've seen the population drop just before Moria and of course again after all Moria was done. This happens in many mmo's.
3, Opinion once again. I think it's a great game and very much enjoyed it. There are actualy others who think the same. If it's not for you great but in no way do I see it as being a "failed game" just a game that's not for everyone.
4, Don't know about it
5, I'll have to agree with that though there are people who still love it. Heck, I'd go back if they fixed the HOX bug.
6, Disagree, I've had some of the most fun in Warhammer that I have had in a long time. I don't like how they did the world but I did very much enjoy it. And again, there are people who really like it. One thing it does have gonig for it are the different builds you can make. This is "win" in my opinion.
7, Actually, Darkfall is a nice game. Once I have more time I look forward to exploring it a bit more. If they can keep going I foresee it growing a nice little dedicated population.
8, A shame really. Hopefully they can hold on and make things work.
9, I can't speak for EQ but EQ 2 also has a pretty devoted following and a following that seems to be made up of people who aren't interested in wow. It's not a bad game at all. I certainly don't see rift blowing it away given how much content it already has.
10, It's a shame but there is a very dedicated group of people playing it. You can log on and see 1,200 to 2000 people on any given day. That seems like a good amount of people for an older game.
11, Not my type of game but the dungeons are fun and apparently it also has a devoted following. But it's game play is different from other games. I don't see that as being "bad".
I say let Rift grow a bit (if not just "release" before we start hailing it as the best game to be on the market. And I've been in the betas and at least have some experience with it. It's a nice game but I would not go as far as to say it will be "the best" out of the games you have listed.

Can't agree with OP nor can I comprehend how "it will be the best game on the market when released" - 2011 will be a big year and I believe RIFT will appeal to people who like WoW but unfortunately since I started CB I can honestly call the game "WoWHammer". If you like the game cool but I just don't see this game being the best or anywhere close to being so.

I think Rift, Tera, GW2, SWTOR, and Earthrise will be the best games in their respective sub-markets to the audience they are developed for.
Same here...badass game!
